This season was better!
zealousllcco1 March 2022
The first season started great but suddenly went off the rails as like it went from the start of the branch to the moon in a few months. I felt the first season was rushed, the second season recovers wet well by dialling back on the first season. This season was much more relaxed and allowed for more jokes to be tossed... personally I didn't like the jokes often but it felt like a much better attempt than the first season. I can see this show hitting its stride by season 3 like Parks and Rec.

Great job!

Season 2 ends on a big cliffhanger
Kenjislamberry22 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This season is shorter than last season its 7 episodes instead of the usual 10 episodes . The show sadly got a reduced budget and less episodes . Spaceforce isn't not for everyone . Not everyone will like it . I got interested in watching the show because of Steve Carell. General Mark Naird is not Michael Scott . People shouldn't compare it to The Office the humor is very different.

This show is underrated . They just need better writers and to cutback on filler episodes . This season ends with Spaceforce getting a promotion and becoming a part of the American strategic Defense Plan and getting sole access to the Hawaii telescope. The episode ends with them discovering a big asteroid heading to earth .

Hopefully there is a season 3 . There is a lot of loose ends that need to be resolved . They wrote Kelly , Yuri and Duncan without any explanation . Kelly was dating General Naird last season and they never explain what happened to her . Duncan and Yuri mysteriously disappear too with no mention of them . We never find out if Yuri really was a Russian Spy .

Also Maggie suddenly in episode 4 sends the general divorce papers even though last season they had decided to stay together in a open relationship . It feels weird and out of nowhere .

It seems like they had to do this to explain why Lisa Kudrow has less screen time this season . Also we still haven't found why she ended up in prison in first place .They should bring back Kelly , Yuri and Duncan for season 3 . These are issues that need to be resolved for season 3 .

It's not great, quite mild really. But i think this could have a better/ good next season. Better character side stories. I sorta just want to see it.

So... the whole season is like...
Zett7624 March 2022
...one big cliffhanger.

I still like the characters, but there was practically nothing at stake, this whole season. It has been literally the last 20 seconds of this season, that made me want to watch season 3... Kind of a cheap trick, I gotta say. If you had this idea, all along, why not introducing it in episode 2 of that freakingly unrelevant season?

Ambitionless 2nd Season
jerome9985 March 2022
No rocket launches, space missions or big ideas this season, while the overview shots of the Space Force base were clearly taken from the season 1 footage. Netflix launched Space Force in style, having no limits, creative freedom and supported with a big budget in season 1. In episode 2.2, Budget Cuts, they already literally and figuratively acknowledge that they are not willing to go all the way for its second season.

Which is (budget cuts) the exact opposite of the direction I hoped this series would take. All season they are busy trying to financially save Space Force, in episodes of 95% dialogue, a small variety of locations and barely any action or physical comedy. I wish to see Space Force in its full potention, with big intrigues and exciting missions exploring space. For any entertainment value, the financial shortage aspect could have easily been skipped entirely.

Some other thoughts:

  • The love story arc of Angela and Chan was kind of creepy, was already doomed to fail from the beginning and not one moment I hoped or cheered for them to end up together. While it filled a big part of every episode.

  • It surprised me John Malkovich returned for this second season after reading the scripts. I always enjoy his work and as a big name in Hollywood, he could have easily left this sinking ship.

  • It always makes me happy to see Steve Carell succeed. I clearly noticed he tried to make a succes of season 2. At times it was painful for me to see him struggling trying to save mostly dissapointing episodes. Just support this man unconditionally Netflix, with a team of good writers and a big budget, like you initially did when launching the series.

  • The Europa Project and The Hack were enjoyable episodes in an otherwise mostly dissapointing season.

  • I hope not to see another season like this. Unconditionally support season 3, or otherwise maybe it would be best to cancel the series. I will root for option 1 with all my heart.

Season Two Review
southdavid27 September 2023
Having come to it pretty late, and avoided the crushing expectation, I quite enjoyed season one of "Space Force". The second season is shorter, as if the die of cancellation had pretty much already been cast but is still fun and warm and I liked it also.

General Naird (Steve Carell) attends a tribunal about the events that took place on the Moon. Though he keeps his command, his budget is slashed and is given four months to prove the viability of Space Force. The budget constraints cause the cancellation of Dr Mallory's (John Malkovich) Mars Mission, which does not go down well. Dr Chan (Jimmy O Yang) and Captain Ali (Tawny Newsome) continue to get close, but Ali has been struggling mentally since returning from the moon.

So again, the weight of expectation plays a big part with "Space Force" - it is not a laugh riot from start to finish, nor some perfect satire of bureaucracy but it's a reasonably charming and gentle sitcom, with amusing moments per episode. There are a few changes in both the characters and the show for this second run. Ben Schwartz gets to skew his character slightly more likable than in the first run, Jimmy O Yang is promoted from a recurring character in the first run to a more involved one this time. Lisa Kudrow is in the show a bit less and, sadly, Fred Willard's passing means he is not involved. Also gone are parodies of real people, Kaitlin Olson as a character whose basically Elizabeth Holmes or Ginger Gonzaga as AOC.

I mean I can understand why the production ended here, everything about it is "OK" rather than "good" so I'm sure, along with what I'd imagine was relatively low viewing figures it was a fairly easy decision, but I'd have watched more if they'd made more - Can't say I'll be rewatching it though.

Optimism after this horrible second season
xfmand2 April 2022
The first season was great, the second season was, in my opinion, terrible unless you lower your expectations. (Which I did, by the way, after watching the first episode of the second season.)

But, for each thing that was worse about it, each of those things could be explained by a rushed production cycle.

So we MIGHT still get a great third season as explained by "bullet points" "A)" and "B)" below.

Season one, in my opinion, had far more different shooting locations and/or sets, far more props, a much large number of actors and more characters. The jokes were more refined, character's nuances which could be credited to better directing and more takes are seen, and clever writing and situation presumably took a lot of effort to put together.

Even more tangibly, the second season only has seven episodes compare to the ten (better) episodes in season one.

So, why do I think we MIGHT get a great third season?

A) Long story short, Netflix has proven that it does not want to leave any Neflix Orginal Series (such as this one) to end on a cliffhanger. So for better or worse, we should probably expect a 3rd season.

B) The production of the second season was obviously delayed and complicated by the pre-vaccination era of COVID-19, which MIGHT account for what appears to be a much shorter production cycle.

So, putting the two together, I think we're likely to get a 3rd season and there a reasonably CHANCE that it will be a good, just as season one was.

earned its ending
Rob-O-Cop23 February 2024
The series was not without its merits but this episode limped to the finish line and collapsed, and was probably the trajectory it was destined for.

It became more of a sitcom staged in a space related work setting and ignored the more interesting and ripe topic on offer, expanding into space and the interesting and funny situations that could offer. Instead we got way too much of the usual tropes from the daughter dad relationship, dating at work problems, the obligatory gay character, etc etc.

The series shined when it was picking fights with the chinese on the moon, or the great patton Oswald cameo of the mars mission astronaut floating in space by himself.

Many of the characters walked well worn paths carved monotonously many times by other sitcoms in the decades before.

Worse than last season.
jeffpeck501627 February 2022
Last season they went to the moon but this season, all they did was waste my time with very few laughs. For my own viewing interest, I really could care less if this show gets canceled.

The season that went nowhere, did nothing and was not anything.
davidhiggins-8975616 March 2022
We could put up with Season 1 but this season just didn't do anything. Malkovich in one scene in this entire season to secretly talk to Bug, shimmied down between two big vending machines.

THAT is what this entire season was like.

It felt like it was going nowhere, crampt, wedged between something, maybe season 1 and a cancelled season 3 that is now more likely due to this poor season.

Just a nothing burger of a season. Had they done 7 episodes then gave it a rest for a month, then carried on with it.

Picking up pace & maybe even some EXCITEMENT in the remaining 3 episodes then we could have gone along with the first 7 lack lustre episodes.

BLENDED them in if the last 3 were any good, which it looks like after the first drab 7 episodes would likely have been. Adding something APPERTAINING TO guess what?, yea >>SPACE<<.

But that was it, a strange number of episodes 7. A strange season. Really can't see the point in it. What it was for. Our entertainment was it?.

They seem to have gone round & round and up their own backside in this season, just a nothing of a season, as flat as a pancake. Whereas the first season had something going for it even if a bit slow to really get going.

Barely worth 3 stars then but did have some good performances from the cast. A higher star rating for them on their own. I enjoyed the acting.

But the storyline & action was dreadful. They lost their way in this season, it may well be the last one.

A bit of a shame as it could have been far better had it been more Sci-fi and spacy rather than mainly done for the comedic element. As we see with the great Red Dwarf, you can have both.

As Mr Miyagi say, "Balance, must have balance", in this season they got the balance wrong.

Waste of time
jamiedyer19791 April 2022
The first season was ok, made me laugh in a few places. The second season is awful, why when other better programs get cancelled (Santa Clarita diet) does this waste of time get another season. Don't bother watching it if you like comedy.
