Kind of fun to see the scene from the title credits come to pass, solid acting and decent storyline.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode irritated me.
Merlin's response to the King Uther taking Excalibur made no sense. The dragon warned him about how dangerous the sword was and that it was only meant for Arthur. The whole reason he had the sword made was for Arthur to fight the mysterious knight that couldn't be killed by any normal weapon.
Merlin did nothing to prevent Uther from using sword. He did nothing to stop or delay the fight. Of course, he didn't know that Arthur was drugged, but the only rational response Merlin could have had was to at least look for where Arthur was and why he didn't show up to the fight.
It is the stupid type of manipulation writers do to push a plot forward toward a predetermined conclusion, even if it makes no sense according to the characters. That is really bad writing.
The show overall is good quality. And the episode was decent enough that I didn't hate it. But bad writing like that majorly detracts from my enjoyment. It takes me out of the show. I want to temporarily forget my critical mind while watching a show. Obvious writing blunders undermine the immersive effect of being told a story.
