Beautiful but a little too long
ruud-3522 January 2022
This documentary is beautifull, altough painfull in many ways. Due to the one child policy in China the maker had to escape to Holland. Coming back to his parents and sisters in China hè discovers that hè is really second choice and not so important. The shame of his family is clearly and the sister who uses every moment to make clear that she is more loved is fascinating. After a while the communication becomes more open but less interesting. In fact the documentary loses a little of his initial power due to the length. Still fascinating enough to watch.

Beautiful personal documentary

A very personal documentary about the "Black kid", the illegal second child born during the time of the one child policy in China. But for me it was more about the interpersonal relationships between the family-members and the different perspectives they have about the past, nowadays and each other. They live each their own lives, nobody talks with each other. And there a many buried untold secrets. Louis shows this in all his sincerity and openess. It's fascinating and a True Gem!

What a beautiful document! I regretted it when it had ended. The whispered voice-over seemed to have knotted my nerves to those of that family. The choices the director made in image, sound and voice-over sweetened the harsh narrative. Bottom line I felt the love of these parents for their son to have allowed him to make this uncompromising film. Chapeau.
