Good Supernatural Horror
icocleric19 August 2022
I binge watched the series, because I really love super natural horror. The tension at the beginning is really wonderful, and there is some very creepy moments with a lot of mystery. There are some wonderful touches, and the creature design is wonderful.

In the middle there are a couple of episodes that drag a little bit more than the rest, but then it picks up again, and the suspension returns. And you see some details have been pretty well thought out.

5 episodes and it would have been great
marika_wenzel20 August 2022
The idea about this is really great and production value is pretty high. But like so many streaming shows material for a great show in five episodes is dragged to a bore in 9 episodes. It is always the same.

DAMMIT!
mooksiphone23 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Like too, too many potentially great Netflix series, this one ends on a cliffhanger, piteously begging the streaming gods for another season. Is it not enough to make a really good limited-run show and then move on to new projects?

7.5 really, quite a good watch
snowyprecipice27 August 2022
I would rate this 7.5 if i could. The show started off good and kept my attention most of the time. I enjoyed the twist, it wasn't something I expected. The overall atmosphere was well done and the horror elements were good in the first half. The crash scene was jarring in a good way, it kinda set the stage for the rest of the show. It did start to get draggy and I found myself forwarding repeatedly, but generally I liked the characters, they didn't feel empty or unreal. The show would be better if it was shortened and made more compact, or if they had more horror elements in the second half like they did in the first.

Too Confusing
milly_ele4 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This could have been a stellar series had they not involved the whole demon storyline. I'm still confused about the grandfather and who he was. Was he a reincarnation of a body possessed by a demon? And how about the guy who awoke from the coma? Is he now a demon too? Did he turn his sister into a demon?

There were 2 storylines going on at once. All the while, I thought they were intertwined, but no! The spirits inhabiting dead bodies was a big enough plot. It was not hard to follow and there weren't any plot holes. I wish the writers had stuck to that one story. The series would have been easier to follow and could have allowed for more time dedicated to the lives of the surviving students post accident.

Average and should have been cut in half
mmartic-2193723 August 2022
This should have been 4 episodes, not 9. The story drags and most of the time is drama instead of horror. Characters were well developed though due to all these drama scenes.

That said, this serial is trying too hard to be everything but ends up being a bit confusing with too many mystery plots, some uneccesary. Picking one of the stories to focus on would already be good enough.

It's still watchable, as its different than the usual stuff on Netflix, just have your finger on fast forward for drama (soap like) scenes.

Did not expect it to actually be good. I love multi-faceted plots.
hadzsocial29 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Where do I even begin? So much happened in this series. I love that it has its own lore, with twists and turns for every character. That nothing is as simple as it seems at first glance and everything is connected. Everything was not in chronological order so I loved how they peeled back the layers and slowly revealed the truths.

The main actress reminds me of Nell (Victoria Pedretti) in The Haunting of Hill House, and I think all of them were great actors/actresses.

If Netflix can renew Locke and Key which has terrible acting, they should renew this one. I'd watch another season of this show.

Captivating series
Calicodreamin22 August 2022
I was hook from moment one through to the end, a captivating and well made series. The storylines had a few twists and beautifully weaved through past and present. Acting was good and characters had depth.

Does it now know what it wants to be?
inkompatibel21 August 2022
Super natural Horror? Mystery? Super natural Drama? Fantasy? Esoteric Journey? It is a bit of everything and nothing in the end, with the horror aspect surely been the minor. So don't expect a Horror flick, it's nether scary nor found I it to be atmospheric, dense, creepy or any of that sort. It can be okay as one time watch and might appeal to some more than it has to me, I'm just not that kind of person who is into (imo) cringe worthy, over the top, positive thinking and tear jerking dialoge.

While the pacing might not be perfect I didn't found as bothersome as some others, it's duable without beeing a complete pain in the arse.

Acting, scenery - nothing to complain here. Score on the other hand.. garstly. At times it felt like I was watching a "spooky child movie" with these wannabe-eerie sounds and instruments going on.

Overall: Okay as a timewaste, but forgettable in every other aspect.

The Girl in the Mirror
Tweekums23 September 2022
This Spanish series opens with a group of students are enjoying a school trip in the mountains. As they head home the coach they are travelling encounters dense fog on a winding road. Something goes wrong and the coach crashes; many of the students are killed. One of the survivors is Alma, a girl who after the accident has amnesia. She has no memory of family of friends but has a feeling that something is wrong. This includes her seeing ghostlike apparitions. There is more talk of the supernatural as a friend's grandfather talks of an ancient myths involving a demon that possesses those close to death.

I though this series got off to a great start. We are effectively introduced to key characters before the main story gets underway. There is a great sense of dread as they head through the fog. Following the accident there is the question of who will have survived and just what has happened to them. Things do slow down a bit during the middle of the series but pick up again with some interesting twists as we approach the denouement. The locations, in Asturias region of Spain are great, they add a great sense of atmosphere; beautiful in a rugged way, one could easily believe strange things might happen there. The cast is solid; in particular Mireia Oriol who plays Alma. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to anybody looking for an interesting chiller.

These comments are based on watching the series in Spanish with English subtitles.

average but good
flejklw23 August 2022
I agree with a lot of reviews that the storyline drags and that there are a few episodes that could have been phased into others, however the plot to the storyline is good and it does meet up to its supernatural horror label.

Overall it is entertaining, keeps you guessing what will happen next, well worth the watch.

Not really a spoiler, but there is a scene that cuts to some polar bears devouring some seals with the aim of the viewers understanding the connection, I'm guessing to keep the show to a rated 15, maybe they should have had a couple of rabbits going at it for the ??????? Scenes, if you get the connection, sorry if its a spoiler.

Tries to do too much
Pegasus-1030 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I think the characters and some of the actors were fairly interesting and although there were too many episodes, it would have been ok to follow them through their ordeal after the bus wreck. The whole demon plot was unbelievable and confusing and didn't serve the cast well. Even after the last episode (which wasn't really the end of the story), it wasn't clear what had or was going to happen. A talented script writer might have been able to work in the idea of dead people inhabiting the bodies of crash survivors somehow, which was sort of interesting. The best thing about the series was the location which had the beauty of the mountains (and that road!) as well as seaside vistas.

Telenovela melodrama with some supernatural background... When they remember to write it.
lauarrojo26 August 2022
I guess they started writing with the idea of a supernatural show... But right of the bat it goes full soap opera mode on steroids and stretches like melted bubble gum.

Dramatic forced scenes that wanna make you cry, but you don't even know therefore care for these characters yet. Welp, that continues throughout.

It does move along so you can continue watching but do some chores in the meantime just so the long soapy scenes won't bore you.

I mean seriously, cry cry cry and more crying come on, it's cringe. Stop writing excessive crying characters, it becomes a satire!

Loses points on acting
dgarciaconde228 August 2022
Great story, it keeps you in tension all the way till the end and opens the chance for a second season. Great landscapes and outside shooting locations. Special effects much better than expected for expected budget on a spanish film. Digital and natural scenes perfectly combined. Dark scenes really make you shiver, can't give more details without risking the spoiler, so you just have to trust me on this one. Its a shame that some leading actors should try to do something else for a living. Hope for a second season to close one of the main lines of the story, with some luck the acting errors can be solved during this time.

Great scenery but extremely slow narrative.
mlopezbecker20 August 2022
This scenes was filmed in one of the most beautiful mountain areas of Spain (Asturias) but has a painfully slow narrative. The viewer gets to see something interesting happen every two or three episodes. It's a real shame! The acting seems promising but is nothing out of the ordinary.

After a good start more and more disappointing
johannes2000-116 September 2022
I was very impressed with the first few episodes, there was this mysterious and sinister atmosphere, that seemed to promise an exciting and suspenseful story. The leading characters Alma and Tom were very sympathetic and convincingly acted by Mireia Oriol (who succeeded in looking extremely attractive in spite of her wearing throughout all episodes an eye patch!), and Alex Villazán. There was some wonderful photography of the impressive landscapes in the Asturias region of Spain, and (in episode 1) there is this scene where in a thick fog a bus crashes into a ravine, filmed from within the bus, that was maybe the most blood chillingly realistic that I've ever seen! So all this made me feel that nothing could go wrong. Unfortunately, it did.

Gradually the writers seemed to loose focus and came up with more and more farfetched ideas, culminating into a hotchpotch of medieval curses, witchcraft, living dead people, interchanging of bodies, and all kinds of supernatural goings-on. It all became extremely chaotic and hard to follow, and towards the end even tedious. Such a pity of Mireia Oriol and Alex Villazán, I do hope to see them again in a better faring vessel than this slowly sinking ship.

Gripping
trudiilter22 August 2022
Just the right balance of twists and turns, eerie suspense grounded in enough reality to make it believable. Some great understated acting that made you hate and love certain characters. A few "he/she's gonna come now....no" interactions out loud too. Bring on season 2 and the finale.

... not as captivating or eerie I'd have wished
baunacholi-8615922 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Starts interesting though and gave me a final destination (1) vibe , but then it gets lost in trying too hard to be different at all costs. The foreboding mystery atmosphere is appreciated. Whereas the supernatural/rite/creature/ aspect just too much in my pov. Acting above average, effects so-so ultimately nothing I'll remember.

Bravo Bravo Bravo
swfad20 September 2022
I've studied filmmaking and I have a knack for mystery, horror, psychological thrillers and supernatural genres and I can tell you that this show is way better that its ratings. Every single aspect was well planned and well thought of, and the producers knew exactly what they were doing. The story itself is intriguing and it doesn't need jump scares to keep you awake (provided you actually immerse yourself in the story, and in my case I was fully). Camerawork and acting were impressive for a Netflix show and even though sometimes they weren't perfect I believe this deserves a 10 for really impressing me especially compared to how deceiving and unimmersive recent shows have been. Kudos to the team behind this.

1 star specifically for the awful ending
paul3141526 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Hey, writers! Do you think it's "cool" and "hip" for a series to have a bad ending? Bad, like the mother of all bad endings?

NO, IT ISN'T. It's frustrating. It's infuriating. You waste your time to see nine episodes only to see that demon win in the end.

I know you people are champions at twisted thinking and twisted art, but this is a popcorn series. And should conform to the happy-ending rule. It's not like you had to put Don Quixote on screen. No. You had perfect freedom to choose any ending you like.

Do you know what you managed to do? You just disgusted me and discouraged me to see any more Spanish series. It's pointless. Why should I waste my time only to remain in the end with the frustration?

I think my review will not be read by the people involved in this series and who might learn something useful because, let's face it, you people are garbage at English. I don't know of any other nation that is so allergic to English.

Great Spanish show! Gripping
tasha-gr24 August 2022
I watched it in the original Spanish and was gripped from the start. Great characters with plenty of character development, teenage romance, family bonds and then an eerie creepiness throughout. Just the right amount of horror and the historic esoteric theme was fun. I thought it was original and enjoyed every episode, very much looking forward to season 2!

compare and contrast
A_Different_Drummer8 September 2022
This series to Paper Girls, same year. Both are stories that start off "normal" and lead to bizarre circumstances. Both have primarily a (self identifying) female cast. Both attempt to tease the viewer by dragging out the "reveal" as much as possible, to maintain interest without giving anything away. And there the similarity ends. Paper Girls is always picking up speed and getting more interesting. Girl in the Mirror seems to constantly run into dead ends that rely more on music and lighting than narrative to hold interest. Could have been SO MUCH BETTER! ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer." Please check out my list "167+ Nearly-Perfect Movies (with the occasional Anime or TV miniseries) you can/should see again and again (1932 to the present))

Long winded, soppy and no ending
footscrayvic25 August 2022
This series started out alright and then turned into some form of soppy teenage girl focused relationship based strange horror. It didn't really know what it was meant to be. But the real clincher for me was that it has no real ending. I wish I had never watched this silly series because I doubt that there will be a second series.
