Good enough

The story is about a bike accident which later leads to missing person case. While investigating, more missing cases came into light. The police officer who is in charge however, looses his hearing power in a fighting. Will he able to find the person behind?

I loved the movie, however, one thing that irritates me the whole time is, the hearing problem thing. If it wasn't included, it would be more enjoyable. The story itself is pretty good so there wasn't any necessity of introducing hearing problem concept.

'John Luther' is an edge-of-the-seat-thriller wherein Jayasurya plays a police officer role after a long hiatus. Director Abhijith Joseph has designed the film well to keep the audience on guessing till the end. Inspector John becomes another of Jayasurya's best performances. He is so magnificent as the partially-deaf sincere cop to the extent where one can't even imagine another actor as John. Deepak Parampol, Sivadas, Aathmiya and the rest of the cast excelled in their roles. The backbone of 'John Luther' is the screenplay with an undying dynamism. Shaan Rahman has composed easily blending background score and suitable songs. Cameraman Roby Varghese Raj crafts beautiful visuals.

For me, the based part of the is flick is Jayasurya.

I really liked this movie it was engaging from the starting itself...nothing much to say ,just give it a watch..oh and ,the climax hero villian encounter could've been better, coz it felt usual and clishe...if that fight scene was made better and more nail biting,the movie would've been lit.

Top Thriller mini series

I didn't expect it would so good these episodes.

Idris Elba played well so the other actors. Congratulations to the director who created suspense a la crescendo until the last episode that lets open the unexpected end.

Each episode tolda a new crime story with quick turns and guessing nonstop what will happen next. Really entertaining but sometimes with violent bloody scenes. My vote 7 matches exactly with the actual rating of IMDb.

If you liked these episodes don't miss the other British thriller series The Bodyguard with Richard Madden or both The Equalizer with Denzel Washington. You won't regret.

Could have been the best crime thriller if not for the clumsy and forced ending

The movie John Luther for me is a underrated movie. I saw it today and felt pretty thrilled with the low key storyline and also the exclusion of over the top mystery aspect which is quite prevalent in other Malayalam Crim Thriller Movie. The Movie has tried to be as grounded as possible by showing an ordinary hero with also having the DR Devil aspect included in the movie in a subtle way. But one of the major sticking points which reduced the rating of the movie is the lackluster climax and also the forced addition of calls for a second part which could have avoided or could have been given more context. Overall a good crime thriller movie to watch and good to see Jaysurya back in a pretty serious role after Sunny.

If you are looking for a psychopathic movie just go for it.

First of all just go to the theater and watch the movie. The theater experience was excellent. This is a psychopath crime thriller movie. This movie starts with an vehicle accident investigation follwed by a lot of murders The film is full of twists that we do not think about. The acting was excellent. If you watch some scenes, it seems that the 'Anjaampaathira' movie is nothing in front of it.

And other impt fact is star casting it was the one of the key thing for the succes of movie There are some loop wholes but it will overcome by the story and performance of characters Last 30 mins is really interesting twists all are really gud All though it's an above average movie which viewers can directly go to theatre without any doubt 🔥

Verdict of the Movie: Blockbuster, 4.5/5 ⭐

Plot of the Movie: CI John Luther alias Jaysuriya had been assigned a case of attempt to murder of a political person & in the mean time another case of multiple murders are being taken place which also been handed over to him... During the course of his investigation he is being attacked & thereby looses his hearing and how John Luther unlocks the mystery behind the multiple murders which is the main plot of this movie forms the rest part of the story..

Positivity of the Movie:

1) Perfect blending of story and screenplay as there was a suspense factory after every moment...

2) Thrilling moments being experienced..

3) BGM by Shaan Rahman was fantastic...

4) Climax was top notch as it was unpredictable..

5) Jaysuriya as John Luther had performed well.....

Negativity of the Movie:

1) Shaan Rahman music was not good as the lyricals was not worth memorable & so its music direction...

2) Movie could been better without songs as such scripts will be better without songs...

3) Less screen presence for ace actors like Siddique was not expected as the story just shows an aspect of the personal life of a police officer which in many cop jonor movies had been portrayed in different shades...

Overall, movie worthwhile to watch as it delivers a thrilling moment to the audience...

Malayalam cinema has been churning out thriller after thriller lately, with just a few making it to the list of memorable ones. John Luther is pretty engaging when it sticks to its procedural elements, and a monotonous drag when it goes off course to cater to familial sentiments. Jayasurya is in fine form as the titular cop character investigating a series of missing cases. After a mixed first half which is 50% procedural and 50% family drama, the second half is primarily focused around nabbing the perpetrator. Though an incident renders John mostly deaf throughout the second half, we don't see the screenplay offering any major challenges for him or his investigation. A late misdirecting twist only serves the purpose of extending the film's runtime, and when the film's final scene showcases Luther walking out of a station in slow-motion to a thumping score, one feels like it wasn't required in a largely sensible film such as this. DOP Roby Varghese interestingly captures the haunting, fog-filled beauty of Munnar while Shaan Rahman's score is okayish.

Absolutely great making and decent acting..and a very good climax twist ... perfectly run crime thriller . Love these kind of movies .. I have a feeling like the movie didn't get appreciation as it deserves.. kudoos do the whole crew !!!!! Movies like these should be encouraged.

John Luther - It's a pretty much nice movie with a good twist in the end.

But what amazed me was the Jayasurya's performance, what solid acting, man! Jayasurya has given an award winning performance, especially those scenes where he loses his hearing scene, just brilliant acting by Jayasurya.

Also cannot believe it's a debut director's movie. Very good BGM and the cinematography is at top notch, DOP has captured the night scenes very well.

That said I said, it's certainly a good movie to watch for the weekend. Enjoy watching it. Kudos to the entire team for giving out a good movie. Highly recommended.

Dissatisfied

Story was not enjoyable. Cinematography was nice, Jayasuriya as John Luther was okay. Not much thrilling elements in the movie, overused plot elements and familiar treatments were a major drawback. May be good for someone who hasn't watched a good amount of thriller movies. For others, it will be a time waste.

predictable and unexciting sequences

'John Luther' took off on a very high note, keeping us glued to our seats. The momentum, later, slowed down due to predictable and unexciting sequences

DELICIOUS

-Roby Varghese Raj really elevated the quality of the cinematography, simply superb😃 The match-cut transitions were brilliant and drew our attention

-Hats off to Abhijith Joseph for his directorial debut, he did well. The clever blocking of the actors brought so much zest to the storytelling, we were transported on a journey

-'John Luther' had all the components to produce a thrilling atmosphere: the dark color grading, ominous score, remote and obscure locations, and great suspense.

-The continuity team did a beautiful job of maintaining the consistency of major facts, e.g. John's hand injury that went from stitches to a scar, and the clock time that coincided with the incident timings

-The film taught us about resilience. Despite his hearing loss, John still regained the confidence to go back to work and persevere

BLAND

-Dubbing' suffered quite a bit 😓

-Hearing loss aside, the screenplay wouldn't have been any different

-John's lack of proper care for his wife and family didn't send a good signal about his personality. He appeared unemotional throughout the movie

-The kidnapper's profile was average, we had anticipated a more intimidating antagonist

-The ending scene when John chased a man in the forest was a little unrealistic. Without a hearing aid and being severely wounded, how did he pursue that man at night?🤔

Have a better translator for Tamil

A simple Google translate can give you the spelling of Hospital in Tamil. If you don't know, don't show a scene showing that. It clearly tells you don't have good team for Tamil. If you don't one, simply stick with Malayalam based story, don't include Tamil or other languages into it. The dubbing/writing for Tamil seriously sucks!!!

Awfully weak ending

Jayasurya puts in an above average performance as a police officer. While the movie starts off on a really good pace, it's let down by a terribly weak ending. Good heroes deserve equally good villain characters to face off against. While the twists aren't predictable, they aren't gripping either. Be prepared to be disappointed by the last 15 minutes.

Cinematography and lighting deserves a lot of appreciation for the way the scenes across the whole movie are picturised. You're transported right to the centre of the scene through the cinematic visuals, be it the foggy hillsides or the rainy winding roads at night. But visuals can only do so much when the story itself decides to blindside you with its weak change of direction in the final 40 minutes or so. A final twist tries to help the plot redeem itself but the fight scene that follows is far from being able to make you appreciate the disappointment of the ending

Did the director and story writer lose their interest half way? Why introduce the whole hearing loss plot line if it barely had any relevance to the solving of the crime.
