Loups-Garous (2024)
Don't take it too serious then it works
In fact it is a funny movie that you don't have to take everything seriously. It is just an adventure fantasy thriller for family that brings you back in the middle age. The sceneries therefore were done really great. All the actors contributed a top performance to create this story believable to the audience.
Watch it on a Saturday or Sunday evening when you don't have anything else to do and you will see how you will relax and have a good time. If you like this genre of film so check out Le Pacte des Loups with Vincent Cassell and Monica Bellucci.
For all these reasons my wife and me rate it 6/10.
Rebel Ridge (2024)
Solid dirty cop thriller
I am satisfied what I saw in this dirty corrupted cop thriller. Better than I have expected. Aaron Pierre and the aged Don Johnson were on the top here. I am already curious to see Aaron Pierre in other action movies like this one. Then James Cromwell was interesting to see in this role. The music was fine and the director who wrote this story did a great job too. Perhaps some scenes were too long paced or could have been cut. The theme hits no doubt the question if justice is done every day correctly but sometimes it is perhaps better not to know the truth at all.
Netflix did it again and merits solid 6 out 10.
Ripley (2024)
Wooow
Wow, what a beautiful series played in the very romantic Italy. Okay it's in black and white and sometimes I missed the nice colors from the sea or the picturesque village at the Amalfi coast Atrani. The atmosphere and chosen locations are so real that I believed to be back in the 60ies. Andrew Scott and Dakota Fanning played their part solidly and the Italian police officer did also a very good job. The story is very dark and in a way intelligent.
It was clever how Ripley saved himself in each critical and diabolical situation he committed. In this way this nine parts on Netflix flew away without annoying and I liked to watch it nonstop till the end. Finally, congratulations to director Steven Zillian for this marvelous work. Hope to see more from him. 9/10.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
Disappointing
I cannot believe this has a rate of 6.7:10 on IMDb.
It was a real torture to watch it and I felt nearly asleep because it was so boring. There are cheesy scenes with robots and so on. What a disappointment and the script is by way one of the worst I have seen long time ago. I mean it didn't make any sense what this agent club is doing and it never came to a point where I had to say wow or nooooo. I think the first Kingsman is better than the this one that should never have been done.
For all these reasons it deserves not more than 3/10 and on IMDb as I said it is too overrated.
Watch instead Heart of Stone they is much more clever and has full of great action and intelligent twists.
Heart of Stone (2023)
Nonstop Action
Wow, I didn't expect so many action in this thriller.
There were so breathtaking special effects that seemed to be real executed. The story is similar to James Bond. I mean the world is in danger and it must be saved before the bad ones gets the power to destroy it. The actors did in my opinion a good job and the director orchestrated all the combat scenes masterfully. It was never boring and the entertainment has a high value. Check it out if you like this kind of movies. The Bourne Identity series or The Mission Impossible episodes shows exactly the same countdown but in a much more powerful art. Anyway, it is worth seeing. 6/10.
Uncharted (2022)
Entertaining Adventure Movie
It was an amazing adventure trip chasing a hidden treasure. Mark Wahlberg was well placed here and all the actors did a good job. The special effects looked great and the end lets open for a sequel. The filming locations were wonderful. If you are a fan of this genre don't miss all Indiana Jones movies or National Treasure with Nicolas Cage or Sahara. I will definitely watch again the National Treasure or Sahara because I like these kind of enterprisers because they take me out of my daily business and so I can disconnect.
For this high value of entertainment I rate Uncharted with a solid 6 out 10.
Babylon (2022)
Sleeper
Hey, did I see another movie? I think with 7/10 this sleeper is by far too overrated. Can somebody tell me what is really going on here? I switched off after 40 minutes when nothing special happened since the beginning. Okay, we see the golden years were Hollywood grew up as the heart of all rising actors and the great capital of cinema.
I have explained you nearly what I felt but if I was not clear enough let me tell you this. I expected some more known personalities with real stories but perhaps I stopped it too early and I missed something? I cannot imagine that but really I mean
It was too slow paced and without any emotional moments. 3/10.
The Call of the Wild (2020)
A good example why we should love animals
I liked very much this adventure movie because it took me away from my daily business into wonderful locations and nature. The dog Buck is unfortunately not a real animal but an animated creature. Its character is so emotional and sensible as dogs usually are. There are many lessons to take away from this story and to learn from dogs.
The main actors Omar Sy but especially Harrison Ford delivered great performances. Ford put his stamp on this animation film. It was never boring and there were many twists that kept all the time my attention. The director and writer presented
really a nice piece for family and children.
7/10.
Geostorm (2017)
Great Special effects
I am very surprised by the high entertaining value Geostorm was. The rating on IMDb is too underrated and the reviews too negative here. Why I consider this desaster movie so good is that the story is packed with the present we are living and the advanced science fiction technology with the satellites. All together accompanied by great special effects and soundtrack. It was never boring and it was interesting how the locations switched from one country to the other with the coming programmed catastrophes. It looked amazing and gives me almost pleasure to watch it again.
Gersrd Butler and Jim Sturgess were top in their roles. For all these reasons it deserves 7/10.
Die Luftbrücke - Nur der Himmel war frei (2005)
Interesting after second world war movie
If you are interested what happened after the Second World War in Berlin these two episodes movie is for you. At least for me it opened my eyes.
I didn't know many details about Berlins population with their surviving problem created by the Russians. The cooperation between the Americans and Germans was very significant at that crucial point to save West Berlin. Unbelievable how explosive rhe danger of a third world war was.
Thanks God there was an important weapon in the hands of Washington to change the political motivation of Stalin. The live affaire between the US General and the German wife was very interesting and was never boring. 6 out 10 that matches exactly the actual rating on IMDb.
Infinite Storm (2022)
Don't expect too much
This survival movie is based on true events.
It is slow paced and puts you together with the rescue woman in a dangerous countdown. The sense of this dramatic story is that both persons changed each other the view of life. The pictures are beautiful and the sound of the storm was quite realistic. Naomi Watts delivered a respectable performance and saved perhaps this film from a complete disappointment. What the mountain patrol could learn from this experience is on the hand that I don't want to spoil further here.
The rating on IMDb matches the vote I give 5 out 10. If you like this genre of movies check out
Society of the Snow.
Plagi Breslau (2018)
Average serial killer
If you haven't really nothing to do this one could entertain you. It shows brutally executed persons by a serial killer. The story is nothing special but finally it is in the same time a revenge thriller.
It is not so hot developed and I really expected more suspense. Perhaps the identity of the murder was disclosed too easy in my opinion and too early. The actors did a good job and the running time was not too long. I would say the pace was quite high so that it was never boring.
What I missed was more depth in each death case. I mean the motivation of the assassination was resumed in some explanations after the executions have been done. 5/10.
L'immortale (2019)
I expected more
After I have seen the Gomorrah Netflix series with the same main actor Marco d'Amore I thought this thriller must be a good one too. But far away from my expectations. It was not so hot as the series. I mean there were many flashbacks in his youth and the story was really harmless here. Alright Marco d'Amore delivered another outstanding performance and he saved even this movie from a complete desaster. Even the soundtrack music was so sweat that I felt nearly asleep. So be warned before you check it out and watch instead the mentioned episodes ore the other great mafia series Suburraeterna.
For all these reasons I give a 5/10.
Too overrated on IMDb.
Shot Caller (2017)
Cool prisoner thriller
What a hell ride with Nicolaij Coster-Waldau who played the prisoner so cool. A story that shows how deep an already judged man can fall or ruin even his whole life. There are flashbacks to reconstruct his past with other criminals until the actual penalty he has to sit down. On the same time you see his family with the wife and their son who are trying to bring him back to normality.
A plan that isn't his one at all but I don't want to spoil other details here. Check it out only for the high entertaining and believable acting of this outlaw. I was never bored and I was asking all time what is coming next. Solid 7/10.
Trigger Warning (2024)
Better than expected
Don't listen to the negative reviews on this site and I cannot understand what they really expected.
In my opinion Trigger Warning is a solid thriller with non stop high value of entertainment. The cinematography was nice and the music perfectly adapted to the suspense moments.
Jessica Alba did a good job here as the other actors. The landscapes were great and the camera as well as the director's work were top.
It begins and ends with action. The story is packed all in an explosive countdown movie. It was never boring because this is the type of Netflix film that delivers what you are looking for. 6/10.
Reptile (2023)
Solid Thriller
If you want to solve a mysterious murder case this is the one. Benicio Del Toro did a great job here and who really put intensity and a deep developed character in this cop thriller.
Intriguing, dark and dirty story where you can trust
nobody and everyone is a suspect. The filming locations were creepy and all the other actors delivered good performances too.
It was never boring and flawless.
My rating with my wife 6/10 for entertainment.
Check out the other Netflix series Crooks if you like this genre or the Italian Netflix episodes Gomorrah and Suburraeterna. Don't miss it, you won't regret.
Pax Massilia (2023)
Too overrated
It didn't met my expectations. I thought the high vote of actually 7/10 on IMDb would be worth a watch. The first episodes looked promisingly but the next went slowly downhill until I stopped it. I mean the story is not full of.turns and plots and was just turning in the circle without any meaningful actions.
The best drug series so far are the Italian ones:
Suburraeterna and Gomorrah. You will note quickly the difference.
Finally it became boring and a sleeper. Then there were some wholes that was not logic and that I cannot spoil here further.
For all these reasons i vote 5/10.
It is too overrated here.
Wil (2023)
Dramatic SS world war movie
How difficult had to be for Dutch police men that the Nazi SS gave their orders to them. It shows again how cruel and without mercy the SS chased the Jewish people everywhere in Europe.
I thought Jesus, didn't the Nazi really have nothing other to do to kill innocent and peaceful people at that brutal time? The Dutch police had to follow them to survive the war.
If you like this genre of films I recommend Persian Lessons, Son of Soul, The Pianist, Sarah's Key or Anne Frank. The scenarios for the filming locations were top executed and the director did a great job too. Of course the main actors too.
7/10.
Papillon (2017)
Excellent
Papillon took me on a great adventure trip with dramatic scenes and courage. This story is based on true events and the book was in France for weeks bestseller. Both actors Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek delivered outstanding performances. The filming locations were wonderful and it was never boring. It is well adapted and directed carefully. All came really true here and the running time with more than two hours is alright.
I like this genre of movies especially when it is a true story. If you like this kind of films don't miss The Great Escape with Steve Mac Queen or Cast Away with Tom Hanks.
Solid 8/10.
Furies (2024)
Boring
The first episodes were promisingly and so I continued to watch but after the fourth or fifth episode it began to go downhill and then I stopped it. In my opinion the story was not so hot worked out that I needed to watch nonstop until the end. It was stretched without coming to a decisive point where I had to say wow and so on.
Some scenes were really good at the beginning but as I mentioned nothing special happened after.
It was better to put all the content of these series in one real thriller. I think it would have been perfect. For all these reasons I rate it 4/10. Too overrated here. Don't spend your time.
Sous la Seine (2024)
Underrated Shark Thriller
This time the shark comes from France and not Hollywood. Alright, the franchise is copied from the first ones that have been created in the American film history. The idea is very original and couldn't be more relevant than ever. Cause this year the summer Olympics will be held just in Paris. The showdown is incredibly staged in wonderful locations under Paris. The story ends dramatically and a sequel is guaranteed.
The main actors did a good job here. The special effects well done and there were perhaps one or two flaws that are not serously to take. Just imagine all is real and the nightmare will be perfect.
The ratings are too underrated here. The director did a good work so that me and my wife give a 7/10. Can't wait the next one.
El caso Asunta (2024)
Too long stretched
There were too many details that kept the attention rather boring with time clarifying the murder case of the young Asunta. There were at least two or three chapters that could have been saved. The facts came too long stretched and sometimes even tortured. But one actress did a wonderful job who should have won the Oscar for best foreign actress and she was Candela Peña. What a performance from her who saved really these episodes. It's all based on a true story but it was really too extended just to tell in a few seconds the main reason why the adopted daughter had to die. For all these reasons it gets 6/10.
Adagio (2023)
Sleeper
I was warned when I read one of the reviews here. But I cannot understand how I can enjoy every second of this sleeper. First, it didn't explain why there was a murdered person and why the young boy is chased. Second, why so slow paced? There was only one positive point that at least I was ready to go to bed and sleep.
The actors did a good job no doubt. The filming locations were well chosen but the atmosphere was in my opinion too reconstructed. If you want see a real thriller then I highly recommend to see the Italian Netflix series Gomorrah and Suburraeterna.
For all these reasons it deserves not more than 2/10.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
High Speed
It was definitely worth watching because it's really well done. Amazing shots and high speed non stop.
A true story that was filmed by director James Mangold and he did it. The main actors Matt Damon and Christian Bale delivered an emotional and fabulous performance. The last race in Le Mans was packed with great action scenes and cool sequences. I don't spoil the end just see it on Netflix. The time is good invested if you check it out. There are many interesting details about Ferrari and Ford's car construction history.
It was was fast paced ninth despite the long running time of nearly three hours. I watched it in three parts. 7/10.
Die Toten von Marnow (2021)
Solid German thriller Netflix series
Wow, these series from Germany really rocked. Nice locations with an intriguing serial murder story hold me electrified.
The actors did a very good job, so all the staff and the director. The eight episodes are well packed with mystery, suspense and action. The running time is perfect and I wanted never stop watching.
I mean it offers high value of entertainment with fast paced scenes and I was never bored.
I hope there will be other episodes with this crew in future. Would be really interesting if there are other mysterious cases to solve. As I mentioned
The main actors delivered a top performance and I liked them very much.
Check it out. 7/10.
