A Slovenian gem

This is a film that never made it to the big screen; I saw it at the Gothenburg film festival earlier this year and had picked it out quite randomly. The two films I watched during the festival was this one and Slumdog Millionaire. Of course, this film doesn't come close to Slumdog when it comes to budget, Hollywood-feeling and media attention, but it is still a very notable film that I would definitely watch again.

Slow but heart-wrenchingly beautiful it is a story about a journey, both a literal one and the inner journey of the few characters.

A young couple, Grega and Masha, is taken on a countryside road trip by Grega's well-meaning father, Tone. Something terrible has obviously taken place in the couple's life recently, but no-one straight out addresses the issue. Instead we see all the emotions these three people go through during the trip (with the main focus lying on the couple) and it sure is a beautiful journey, as well as fascinating and touching.

If you're looking for an action-packed film, this is not the one you should pick. If you are on the other hand looking for a superbly thought out, shot and acted film which will stay in your mind and heart long after it is over, you should watch this.

Sad as this film is, it's never blatant and it even has its funny bits. Blaž Kutin, the director and co-writer of the film, obviously trusts the audience to come to its own conclusions, something that is refreshing and gives the film a real genuine feeling.
