[This story contains spoilers from episode five of Sweetpea.]
Rhiannon Lewis is immediately introduced as a ticking timebomb of a character in Starz’s Sweetpea. The series opens with the inner dialogue of the protagonist, played by Ella Purnell, rattling off a list of people she’d like to kill as she feigns a smile in her interactions with said individuals that suggests she might one day make her sadistic wish come true.
Audiences don’t have to wait long. By the end of the first episode, she’s found her first victim in a random man she crosses paths with in the park late at night. His inability to watch where he drunkenly pees is the final tipping point for Rhiannon who’s just come from confronting the woman she blames for all of problems at a club nearby: high school bully Julia Blenkinsopp (Nicôle Lecky).

As we move closer to the end of 2024, now is the perfect time to look back at some of the worst shows of the year. It has been a fruitful year for TV watchers, particularly those who prefer to stream their series. We’ve seen an interesting mix of new shows and the anticipated return of old favorites. Still, this doesn’t mean they have all been winners.
Before we share which shows have been the most disappointing, let’s give recognition to some of the many series we’ve enjoyed the most. At the top of my list, I have Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent, Prime Video’s Fallout, and Hulu’s The Bear season 3. I know Netflix’s Baby Reindeer also received a lot of attention, as well as the returning Prime Video favorite, The Boys with season 4. Which shows have made it to your favorites list so far?...

Bethesda’s space RPG, Starfield, was the company’s first new IP in 25 years and had a lot behind it to be something special. However, the title failed to hit the mark as it couldn’t match the high standards set by the studio’s previous work.
Starfield was one of Bethesda’s most ambitious projects. (Image via Microsoft)
Even though Bethesda constantly updated the game and even gave us Shattered Space Dlc, it couldn’t be steered away from its core issues. Many believed that the game’s objective of winning the console war for Xbox was a massive failure, but according to Phil Spencer, it was never meant for that purpose.
Starfield‘s Goal Was to Put an End to Console Wars
Even though Starfield didn’t deliver on expectations, its initial phase of release was quite a success. It became the most-played Xbox title, with 6 million gamers during the early access.

Back in December of 2022, it was revealed to us that Henry Cavill had signed on to star and produce a TV series inspired by Games Workshop‘s Warhammer 40k for Amazon’s Prime Video. Considering Cavill’s past works, gamers couldn’t wait to see what the actor would do with such a popular franchise.

It’s no secret that video game adaptations are quite trending nowadays and it seems like Amazon is determined to continue that trend after the success of the Fallout TV series. It has been revealed that the next franchise that is getting a TV show is BioWare’s Mass Effect video game series. There are various rumors that actor Henry Cavill will be a part of the main cast, however, nothing is confirmed as of now.

Jack Black has become something of a video game movie veteran lately. From voicing Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie to bringing Claptrap to life in (the disastrous) Borderlands, and now gearing up for his role in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Minecraft (why?), the actor seems determined to leave his mark on every major gaming adaptation in Hollywood.

But during a recent interview, Black expressed genuine surprise about one particular gaming franchise that hasn’t made the leap to the silver screen yet. The reason behind this particular franchise’s absence from Hollywood, as it turns out, is both fascinating and somewhat ironic.
And it all comes down to a decision made years ago by one of the gaming industry’s most influential figures.

The first season of Fallout on Amazon was a big success, a TV adaptation of Bethesda's long-running post-apocalyptic video game series that alternates between bleak brutality and off-the-wall silliness. The cast and crew are getting going on season 2, and Deadline reports that Macaulay Culkin will be joining the cast.
Culkin is best known for his work as a child star in the 1990s, having starred in two Home Alone movies. He's appeared only sporadically since then, popping up on shows like American Horror Story and The Righteous Gemstones. Per Deadline, he'll play “a crazy genius-type character,” which sounds about right.
On The Righteous Gemstones, Culkin played the estranged son of Walton Goggins' character. On Fallout, Goggins plays the Ghoul, a mutated bounty hunter who makes stalks the waste looking for revenge against the people who made the world like this in the first place. Ella Purnell and Aaron Moten...

The Prime Video TV series adaptation of the popular Fallout video game franchise already had a second season in the works before the first season even started streaming – which turned out to be a good move, because Fallout quickly became Prime Video’s second most-watched title (after The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), drawing in 65 million viewers in its first 16 days of release. Seven months after the show premiered, Deadline has learned that Macaulay Culkin, best known for starring in the first two Home Alone movies, has joined the cast of Fallout season 2. Details on his character are being kept under wraps, but Deadline was able to learn that he’ll be playing the recurring role of “a crazy genius-type character.”

Crack open a Nuka-Cola, folks — the next season of Prime Video's Fallout just got a little bit more exciting! After the show earned itself a swift Season 2 renewal back in April off the back of stellar reviews and impressive viewing figures, anticipation has steadily been building for our return to Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner's video game inspired post-nuclear wasteland. Per Deadline's reporting, Culkin — whose last major TV appearance was as Mickey in American Horror Story: Double-Feature back in 2021 — is set to play "a crazy genius-type character" in the show, which boasts Westworld architects Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy as producers.

Ella Purnell didn’t quite have the appetite to watch one of her onscreen characters go.
After starring in the first season of Showtime‘s Yellowjackets, the actress recently opened up about the “disconcerting” experience of seeing her character Jackie’s dead body on the show following her death at the end of the Season 1 finale.
“Yeah, it was weird. I knew it was gonna happen, I kind of put two and two together,” she noted at a recent Fan Expo in Chicago. “But I was filming Fallout, and the schedule was very, very demanding. I was exhausted. And I was getting the scripts for Season 2 [of Yellowjackets] but I wasn’t maybe reading them as quickly as I should have been, because I had a lot going on.”
Purnell added, “And I just woke up one morning, and I had all these pictures from my Yellowjackets castmates of them taking selfies with my charred corpse.

Come in, Commander Shepard! As fans of Mass Effect will doubtless already know, today is N7 Day, the annual fandom-wide celebration of EA and Bioware's wildly popular sci-fi RPG series. And whilst we hadn't been expecting any major announcements from the far reaches of the Milky Way this year, a pleasant surprise news drop for franchise fans — and lovers of sci-fi and/or peak TV more generally — has come along all the same. Per Variety's reporting, the long-rumoured Mass Effect show at Amazon is now officially in development, with Fast & Furious 9 scribe Daniel Casey attached to write and executive produce.

Space opera video game series "Mass Effect" is officially making the jump to television. Variety reports that Amazon MGM Studios has ordered a "Mass Effect" series from writer Daniel Casey ("F9"). Executive producers include Karim Zreik of Cedar Tree Productions, Michael Gamble of "Mass Effect" owner EA (Electronic Arts), and Ari Arad (son of famous "Spider-Man" producer Avi Arad).
A "Mass Effect" TV series was first revealed to be in the works at Amazon back in 2021. Previously, there were also plans to turn the "Mass Effect" video games into a movie, but that never rose out of development hell.
It's easy to trace this news back to Amazon's recent success with adapting the "Fallout" games into a TV series. Amazon MGM Studios also recently announced a "God of War" TV series (showrun by "Star Trek" and "Battlestar Galactica" legend Ronald D. Moore) and "Mass Effect" fits right in with these other plans.

Why Couldn’t Tom Cruise Film Mission Impossible: Fallout In Kashmir? (Photo Credit – YouTube)
In a twist straight out of a Hollywood script, Tom Cruise found himself in a standoff with bureaucracy over filming Mission Impossible: Fallout in the breathtaking landscapes of Kashmir. Can you believe it? The man who dangles from helicopters and outruns explosions couldn’t get a thumbs-up to film in one of the most stunning places on Earth!
Kashmir has long been the go-to backdrop for Bollywood’s romantic sagas, featuring in classics like Dil Se and Jab Tak Hai Jaan, but when Cruise and his crew came knocking, the doors were firmly shut. During a press tour, the star revealed, “We tried, but no one was having it.”

When you think of action heroes, names like Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sylvester Stallone immediately spring to mind. But if we’re talking about taking action to the next level—Tom Cruise is in a league of his own. His portrayal of Ethan Hunt in the Mission: Impossible series has become the stuff of legend. Since 1996, the franchise has been a high-speed thrill ride, mixing espionage, high-octane chases, and gravity-defying stunts, all with Cruise at the wheel.

However, as the franchise churned out sequels and the stakes kept getting higher, so did the intensity of the action. With each new installment, the thrills escalated, and the risk factor only multiplied. This trend hit a peak with Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018), the seventh flick in the series, which saw Henry Cavill join the action.

Back in December 2022, it was revealed to us that Henry Cavill had signed on to feature in and produce a TV series based on one of the most iconic franchises of all time, Warhammer 40k, for Amazon Prime Video. The announcement kicked off a massive hype train as fans couldn’t wait to see Games Workshop’s masterpiece on big screens.

Unfortunately, we haven’t heard much about the project. We don’t have a shred of an idea where the story might go or who our heroes will fight again. However, one thing is clear: if the series wants to achieve the same success as the Fallout TV show, it must avoid the “fascist” claims that nearly destroyed Space Marine 2.

In spite of not being much of a “gamer guy,” Walton Goggins sees the Ghoul as a pivotal role for his acting career and public image. Goggins recently sat down with Salon for a tell-all interview regarding his work on the Emmy-nominated Fallout TV show and what it means for the future.
Fallout, which you can watch on Amazon Prime Video, is based on the long-running series of post-apocalyptic video games from Bethesda. But Goggins accepted his role on the show without having any interest in its roots. “I don't know what Fallout is. I don't know the game," he said. "I don't care that it's based on a game. You could do it on a comic book, you could do it on whatever. It just came out of your imagination. If it's with you guys, I'm in.”

“Venom: The Last Dance” held top spot at the mainland China box office for the second consecutive weekend. It beat newly released Andy Lau-starring thriller “Cesium Fallout.”
“Venom: The Last Dance” earned RMB104 million ($14.6 million) over the weekend, according to data from consultancy service Artisan Gateway. That is more than 50% lower than its debut weekend, but still lifts the film to a $70.8 million cumulative after 12 days on release. That is a pace very similar to “Alien: Romulus” in China and could see “Venom” among the top three Hollywood films in China this year.
Opening in second place, “Cesium Fallout” earned $9.8 million in its opening weekend. Produced through Hong Kong’s Edko Films and starring Hong Kongers Andy Lau and Karen Mok, the film (previously titled “Burning City” and “Fallout”) is billed as China’s first nuclear radiation disaster film. It was directed by Anthony Pun, with Alibaba Pictures handling the China release.

To this day, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim remains an experience that only a selected few in the industry can compete with. Thanks to its dedicated modding community, Skyrim has managed to stay relevant and modernized, and it’s incredible to see what the gamers have managed to do with the game. It’s easy to forget that Bethesda ended the official support years ago.

Blockbuster films often feel like a sprint to the finish, with studios clamoring for ever-bigger explosions and more pulse-pounding plots. Tom Cruise, who has thrilled us for years as the indomitable superspy Ethan Hunt, now finds himself facing the unsettling possibility that his beloved Mission: Impossible franchise might be nearing its end.
Paramount is reportedly contemplating labeling this installment as the franchise’s swan song. Cruise, on the other hand, isn’t quite ready to hang up his spy gadgets just yet.
