As Head of Pan-English Scripted SVOD TV, Rola Bauer is responsible for developing, commissioning, and programming English-language international TV series that target Prime Video's global customers. A two-time Primetime Emmy® award nominated producer and member of the Producers Guild of America (PGA), Bauer brings a unique perspective to programming, having produced multiple acclaimed and nominated international series, working with renowned partners from around the world. Bauer reports to Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios.
Bauer joined Amazon as part of the company's acquisition of MGM, where she served as President, International Television Productions. There she developed and worked on; Harlan Coben's Shelter, based on the #1 New York Times bestselling novel, for Prime Video; Billy the Kid from creator Michael Hirst for MGM+; FROM, created by John Griffin and produced by AGBO and Midnight Radio for MGM+; Last Light, starring Matthew Fox and Joanne Froggatt, in association with Peacock and Viaplay Group, MBC and Stan; The Reunion, adapted from French author Guillaume Musso's bestselling novel, in partnership with France Televisions and Make it Happen Studio; and El Fin del Amor for Prime Video, based on author Tamara Tenenbaum's best-selling novel.
A pioneer of international productions, Bauer previously served as partner and creative force at STUDIOCANAL TV, (formerly known as TANDEM Communications, which she founded in 1999). During her time at Studiocanal, she steered their TV content offering to provide a full studio service including international co-production strategy, business affairs, finance, and worldwide sales to support Studiocanal's growing roster of production companies across the global market. She began her career at Alliance Communications, finishing there as President of their subsidiary Alliance International TV, where she managed several international offices out of its Paris headquarters. She later moved to Munich to work as a buyer at ProSieben TV Network, where Bauer oversaw their international series and co-production efforts, until she left to set up her company, TANDEM.
As an Executive Producer, Bauer oversaw complex co-production series partnerships with multi-networks such as; PILLARS OF THE EARTH, CROSSING LINES, TAKE TWO, SHADOWPLAY and THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH to name a few.
Bauer also oversaw premium scripted content for the Studiocanal Prod Cos including the series YEARS AND YEARS, WAR OF THE WORLDS, MIDNIGHT SUN, THE LAST PANTHERS, and BELOW THE SURFACE.
On the international coproduction front, she was instrumental in shaping the highly regarded ZeroZeroZero, as well as Harlan Coben's SAFE, her third Coben series, for Netflix and CANAL+ Group, Julie Delpy's ON THE VERGE and Benedict Cumberbatch's THE CHILD IN TIME.
Bauer has earned many awards, including the prestigious Medaille d'Honneur for her outstanding contributions to the international television business, the C21 Editor's Choice award in recognition of her career in the business, and has been named to Variety's International Women's Impact Report on five different occasions. In 2011, she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for PILLARS OF THE EARTH. She has been honored by The Hollywood Reporter as one of the Most Powerful Women in Global Television on multiple occasions, including its most recent list in 2023. She was also listed in the 2023 Variety 500 list. Bauer sits on the International Emmys Board (iEmmys) and is a member of the PGA and Primetime Television Academy.
