Terrible, terrible movie.
iwantmorestuff1026 March 2011
One of the worst "films" I have ever had the unfortunate displeasure of viewing. The acting was awful, the story was incredulous, and I'm glad that I watched it as a free rental.

I'll not go into detail, because this movie doesn't deserve it, but what was the writer THINKING when he created it? How could the entire staff go through with this without someone saying, "Hey. . .you know, this movie really sucks." Why, WHY were they called the stick up kids when not one of them is under 30? Why do they have Lexuses, Benzes, and other luxuries but they can't help their own team member with a debt problem? . . .and, probably one of the biggest flaws with this movie, WHO WOULDN'T SHOP AT A STORE THAT HAD ALL THE ITEMS OFF AT 75%?!!! Thank you The Stick Up Kids for supplying us with two-hours of bad acting, bad music, bad storytelling, but hilarity beyond anything we've seen in years! So. . .for that I will say that The Stick Up Kids is the greatest comedy of 2011!

Nice Indie Flick!
c734518 February 2010
I recently had the opportunity to watch the film "The Stick Up Kids" and as far as indie flicks go, I'll give it an 8. I really liked this film and would have given it a 9 but there are a few corny scenes that threw me off guard. Otherwise, the storyline and cast is pretty impressive for an indie flick. The rivalry between the born and raised Harlemites and the wicked Slumlord is interesting and one of my favorite themes throughout the movie. The music selections are dope too and put a great finishing touch on the film. Some of the selections remind me of Johnny Pate "Shaft in Africa" or of Bobby Womack's "Across 110th St". Good work with this one!

DON'T HATE THE PLAYERS, HATE THE GAME
nogodnomasters5 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
A group of Harlem con artists rob rich people and live by the Three Musketeers' motto. After amassing millions and living in a low end rental, they decide they need to pull one more big job before retirement. One gang member gets shot and put in a wheel chair. While in prison he gives us the "great white conspiracy" speech to give a substandard movie some mock substance. Somehow I don't see the Feds controlling interest rates as targeting blacks, but maybe that is just me.

At this point the movie turns from a light con artist film to a heavy film about the Moors, the original owners/ settlers of NYC, and how the white man keeps the black man down. The movie gets bogged down with this theme and doesn't integrate it into the film as well as other films have done. Coupled with bad acting and poorly written dialogue, this production lost my interest after the wheel chair speech. For those who believe in the white vs. black conspiracy ideas, they might find an interest in this film in spite of its short comings.

N-word, F-bomb, sex, no nudity.

More than what it seems
danceability-122 May 2010
More than what it seems! Let's just say this film is full of surprises. I was impressed with the quality of the film and the overall cast as well. I would definitely recommend this movie! This film impressed me! I thought this would be just another NYC crime flick but they tackle some real issues that New Yorkers are experiencing in several of the newly gentrified neighborhoods. This movie also taught me some stuff I didn't know about New York City's first settlers (hint: it was not the dutch). Bryce Wilson and Mel Jackson are great on the screen. I would give 10 except for a couple scenes that are a little too corny, other wise a great flick!

Great Story!
RWfiend22 February 2010
This is a pretty good crime drama! Between the slumlords, robberies and seduction, let's just say this film is full of surprises. I was impressed with the quality of the film and the overall cast as well. There are some fairly known actors in the film including Bryce Wilson, Mel Jackson, and Hawthorne James! I was unfamiliar Tariq Alexander but he fit his role of "smooth talking Harlem cat" perfectly. I'd prefer if the film was a little bit shorter but otherwise you should definitely check this out. The end is predictable but they definitely mix it up with some unexpected twists! No spoiler alerts here tho! Watch the movie!

Deep Heritage-oriented movie...
sharon_jamieson7929 March 2010
In reading the reviews, I did not see anyone comment on this movie's most important aspect...heritage/pedigree. The Muurs, Moors, however you wish to spell our name and who we really are...are coming to light. This information is extremely hard for most of us to awaken and realize they are talking about us. When you look at the titles that we have been called all these years (black, Negro, African-American - those not recognized as "People"); and when you realize why most of us don't own any land...you will see that it is because we do not know who we are and how to stake our claim. We MUST dedicate a little time to the references made in most movies, as they're always trying to tell you something. However, this movie drops info like a B52 at war. It's saying a lot about YOU, but most can't hear because they don't know how to listen. Please view this movie more, then search the internet for more information about your heritage...but most importantly, ask your own great-grandparents...or grand parents.

More than a Crime Flick!
elkin-663-50096216 February 2010
This film really impressed me! I thought this would be just another NYC based crime thriller but they actually tackle some real deal issues that New Yorkers are experiencing in several of the newly gentrified neighborhoods (Harlem, Williamsburg, Ft. Greene, Bed-Stuy). This movie also taught me some stuff I did not know about New York City's first settlers (hint: it was not the Dutch). Overall the cast if pretty solid. Bryce Wilson and Mel Jackson are stand outs, they did an excellent job in this one! Aside from some odd and corny scenes this DVD is pretty good all the way through. I'd recommend for a night with the fellas, kicking back and playing dice!

Did You Get the Message
e-bryant201123 November 2012
Although you can tell this was a budget film and some acting was a little put on, the overall message I took from the film is to know who you are and what you are capable of accomplishing. There are a lot of good points and statements made about the black community in the fact that we need to unite more and be proud of our heritage or what's happening to our children will continue to happen and we will never be as great as we can be as a people. People from different countries come here and flourish but here we are, blinded to the truth, under a spell that things wont get better. I like when movies try to bring light to the black community, more of them are needed. Sometimes we our so quick to judge black productions and not willing to support and help improve. We must support our people and stop being conditioned to everything Hollywood.

LENAPE TRIBE owns Manhattan
jmedia12 July 2015
This Film actually has hidden gems. Gentrification is the main point. Do not sell your land and your heritage. Adapt to Capitalism and utilize it properly. I am from the original Bed-stuy that Biggie Smalls and Jay-Z are from and I can tell you that today in 2015 the hoods they rapped about (Myrtle Ave and Nostrand Ave - Marcy Projects- Dekalb Ave and Skillman Ave - LG Projects) are not the same at all. The Brownstone Heritage is lost and sold. I did research into the "Lenape Tribe" at the NATIVE American MUSEUM by Wall St, NYC and for sure the DUTCH were not here 1st. In fact, "MANHATTA" (the indigenous name) was never sold with a proper deed or contract. If it does exist, I would like to see it.
