What a great film. Kudos to director in bringing out the best from a fresh actors and crew. The story and screenplay are perfect and tightly drafted which I believe made this movie enjoyable. As a person from Kannur, the dialect felt close to home and is a actual representation of this region.

All actors portrayed their characters brilliantly esp. The actor who played Kuwait Vijayan especially the fit of rage scene near the climax was brilliant in this comedy movie. Hoping to see a lot of great movies from Senna Hedge. Remember the name.

A brilliant satire
vjnambu4 November 2021
The highlight of thinkalaazcha nischayam is its casting. There is not even a single familiar face(and don't know whether we will see any of them in any mainstream malayalam film in future), but all of them suited their roles perfectly.

Direction is in lines of dileesh pothan films. When the climax was about to be preachy, a fun twist was brought to make it a feel good ending. And the mid credit scene was hilarious.

On the whole, thinkalaazcha nischayam is one of the best comedy films in malayalam recently.

A good satire
alphadude0071 November 2021
Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam is a good satirical take on the patriarchal system through the lens of an arranged marriage. The character development is so good that you feel for each and every character although all their objectives are drastically different. The film veers towards drama, but the director expertly uses comedy to once again get you back into a light watching experience. A lot of scenes evoke surprise and brings new cast or a different method of storytelling, but it all flows and works. A commendable attempt and a fun watch.

A fun ride.
akhil0272 November 2021
Senna Hegde's Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam is an almost satisfying satire. He manages to bring novelty to a story that's been told several times. The movie trips and falls sometimes. But those can be overlooked considering the overall writing. Almost all of the cast are debutants and most of them delivers. Especially the ones who played Suja, Surabhi, the father and Surabhi's husband. I enjoyed one song( after the ring exchange), but the rest of them were less appealing to me.

Overall, the movie's fun to watch although it's a bit overpraised.

The finest Malayalam comedy of 2021!
nidhunmoviebuff31 October 2021
Many films with unheralded, amateur casts have won the Kerala State Awards. But to do that with a comedy, director Senna Hegde has pulled the rabbit out of the hat and with some aplomb.

'Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam', the winner of the Second Best Film Award at this year's Kerala State Film Awards is a hilarious comedy seemingly plucked from the life of an average conservative family from North Kerala.

A stereotypical gulf-returnee dad struggles to marry off his younger daughter while still harboring resentment towards his older daughter who had the audacity to defy him and marry a man of her choice (shudder!).

Throw into the mix a wedding organizer who has eyes for the soon-to-be bride, a misfit younger brother, some snarky aunties and healthy servings of patriarchy and absolute chaos ensues.

How the director managed to assemble this crew of unknown actors of such quality is astounding. Ranji Kankol delivers some of the film's best comic sequences as the hopelessly romantic wedding organizer while Unnimaya Nalppadam excels as the troubled older sister of the young bride.

But it is Manoj KU as our main protagonist, the beleaguered dad who steals the show with an absolutely electric performance. From dancing drunk to fighting with loan sharks and finally dealing with a betrothal ceremony seemingly falling apart, he astounds the viewers, delivering the whole gamut of emotions with poise and gusto.

With a motley crew of carefully written supporting characters, a steady stream of unresolved family squabbles and petty skirmishes, the film movies delicious along and completely leaves you in splits with a ridiculously funny final act.

I haven't laughed so hard for a Malayalam film in a while. Highly recommended! An absolute must watch!

Above average
nebinjohns1 November 2021
Thinkalazcha Nishchayam protrays the story of a family that looks forward for a marriage decision ceremony. Reality is the main feature of this flick. All actors were performed naturally in this movie. But sometimes some actors performed confusely by their role. That's a drawback. Personally I didn't get a full satisfaction from this movie as per people reports. Anyway an above average attempt. You can laugh at somany times in this movie. That's all.

A Feel Good Movie
jyothishvarghese1 November 2021
Once someone started to watch it they never stop until it finished. It is a complete entertainment movie, based on the things happening around us in a family. We are familiar with all the characters from the film and easy to figure out them in our family, neighbors, or friends.

Pleasant But Overrated
indianature11 September 2022
I watched Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam on SonyLiv in orig. Malayalam w/Eng. Subtitles.

This film received the Best Film & Best Story awards which is why I watched it, but having done so, I feel the film is quite over rated.

TN has a good plot based on real such events in Indian society, amusing enough but dragged a bit and wasn't as engrossing a narration as several other films released in 2021 such as the brilliant grossly underrated Nayattu and several others with a more interesting storyline than TN : Minnal Murali, Kuruthi, Home, Kurup, Sara's, Aarkkariyam, Joji, The Great Indian Kitchen, Love and Im sure there could be more.

Anyway, not to deprecate TN, just the comparison with better films that got no awards.

The plot shows a typical middle income family where the elder girl ran off to marry the man she loved, the middle girl agrees to meet a boy fixed by her father, the match is fixed and the engagement ceremony is about to begin but the girl is planning to elope as she did not have the guts to tell her parents that she loves someone else. This is a serious problem that causes unnecessary expenditure and gross embarassment to the parents. If a girl doesnt want to go through an arranged marriage she must tell her parents firmly so, rather than put them through so much trauma. The father is a well meaning but annoying character who loses his temper very easily. Eventually even the younger brother has a girlfriend who suddenly turns up thus complicating matters. The film drags in many scenes.

Its a pleasant, amusing watch overall.

Cliche
mailtosmit7 November 2021
It is now a fashion to create movies just depicting a few situations with no core story line. When those type of narratives sprung up in the past, we used to like it as that was like a whiff of fresh air. Not anymore; as all tom, dick and harry is now behind such story telling (sadly without a proper story) with the use of a certain dialect (mostly the Kannur slang). Situations lifted from previous movies, acting and actors being below average it is nothing but a passable movie. Nothing close to the high ratings you see on sites.

The Almost Perfect Movie
nairtejas29 October 2021
Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam (Engagement is On Monday) starts, fires some truth bombs through a comical setting with an upcoming wedding ceremony as the backdrop, and ends. To make such a wholesome satire requires brilliant writing, and that is where the film shines. Each and every dialogue uttered by each and every character is worth pondering upon. And it's not like the characters are in the side line. You relate with each one of them like they are your own relatives back in Kerala. While many of these dialogues will give you a chuckle, it's those towards the end that make the message clear. Add tour de force of performances by a fresh cast and you have the laugh riot and social film of the year. Watch it.

Superb
abdujazzctcl29 October 2021
Beyond being the ultimate feel-good family movie that touches on the realistic making of S, it beautifully captures how authentic Indian traditional wedding arrangements are and how the new generation can throw them into the gutter and keep their own tastes together with the family. At the forefront is a group of newcomers who have enriched the film with their outstanding performances while being rich in inhumane jokes, based on natural situations that are not deliberately injected for comedy. Monday is definitely a good movie to strongly recomended.

Mindless, chaotic and fool of holes
naveenkrishnanh7 November 2021
Well the Kasaragod slang and setting is interesting, acting is occasionally good ( few are over acting, kinda like cheap serial, but some good).

But this true failing is that the movie just panders for the most part and ends predictably and in a mediocre manner ( the South African girl was funny, but plot wise pretty ridiculous and irrelevant )

This would have been a great 15 mins short film!

Very Interesting !!!
srikanthlingampalli1 November 2021
It's a very entertaining movie with stellar performances by the actors particularly Manoj K U (distressed father) and Anagha Narayanan (second daughter). The plot is a very interesting one with a father planning her second daughters' engagement trying to compensate his distress with his first daughter marrying against his will. The movie scenes are all around the house preparing for the engagement function and how things lead to second daughter and her lover planning to elope before the engagement. All the actors are new faces and have acted very well. Each character has their own past linked to the story and are trying to get back on someone in some way. Director (Senna Hegde) is a great talent to look forward to. The screenplay is very nice and the climax is an open satirical question to everyone on the similar democratic and family situations.

Totally took me to the many wedding functions that I had attended long back as a child
philip_xavier6 November 2021
Usually, watching a hyped movie a few days after it's release only leads to the conclusion of the movie not living up to the expectations. But this was totally an exception in that, it gave back so much more than expected. Stellar performances from lesser known cast combined with great direction, screenplay and cinematography made sure that I too was one of the guests at the showcased engagement function, after just 15-20 minutes of watching. Characters such as "Santhosh" easily remind you of someone you know as either your relative or acquaintance.

It seems we are now in an age of realistic cinema where realistic or natural acting is celebrated above everything else. Unfortunately this has also led to a small group of new gen audience dismissing some of the Sathyan Anthikkad and Priyadarshan classics of 80's and 90's to be not as good as the current best films. As somebody who enjoys watching both these classics as well as the modern ones such as "Maheshinte Prathikaram", I kind of feel that it is much more difficult to create and show an alternative version of life in movies rather than showing a glimpse of real life as such. Not in any way putting down the efforts that went into creating this wonderful movie, but it seems the director too shares my sentiments and was sort of saying "You want a realistic movie? Then I can easily give you an ultra realistic movie that is totally sufficient with its mostly noob cast and never craves for the presence of someone like Fahad Fazil." Yes, "The great Indian Kitchen" is indeed a good movie with a powerful message, but all things considered, it seems this movie deserved the "best picture" award more. Nevertheless, it feels good to know that this movie was honoured at the awards which is definitely the most deserving and satisfying of all the awards given by the movie and television wing of the govt this year.

A hidden gem
geethugeorge9 November 2021
It's sad that the movie didn't get the hype it deserved. It's a perfect movie. Every actor has acted so well. Even though the entire cast is not so famous actors the movie was enjoyable from the start to the end.

Definitely a fun movie with some many laughable and relatable moments.

A fun to watch movie
thejassivakumar23 January 2022
The story revolves around the engagement of Suja, who is in love with another man. The day before the engagement is illustrated in the movie. The story may seem a bit slow-paced in the beginning but as it moves forward we get engaged in the story and won't feel any lag. The movie is fun to watch as it shows the problems between the family members also in a natural manner and we feel like a part of it.

A really good movie with tons of plot holes !
jjj-083435 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It's a very unique movie in the with the Malayalam movies due to specific use of colloquial Kasargod dialect of Malayalam which is specific to the north Kerala bordering Karnataka state, which is very few.

The actors have played their role and the direction was great.

The storyline is the issue which is written as a skit or short play with no valid explanation on various issues that leaves the viewers wondering like what was the issue that the elder daughter had with the creepy bank manager, who stole the money from the steel wardrobe, why would the youngest son's girlfriend arrive with the same guy who was responsible for the capture of the eloping couples all within such short period at night, and moreover realistically why would an English speaking girlfriend who claims that her folks might send her back to South Africa be interested in a guy who hardly attends college and lives in village. Some of these bits are overstretched to add padded humor with no relevance. Thus for the open ended storyline with no valid explanation which is otherwise rare in a Malayalam movie, the appreciation seems a bit over hyped and over rated.

Never miss this one!
archajithinadfin1 November 2021
One of the strenuous task a director or scriptwriter has to do justice in his film is the engagement of audience with the story plot. To make sharpen the ears to every dialogue, laugh uncontrollabaly even at the innocence, and a throbbing heartbeat along the entire film. Thinkalazcha Nischayam is such a movie that fulfills the above elements. Not to mention the actors who would've bagged all the state awards if the whole movie was a competition.
