Very funny Halloween episode. Major improvement over the last one.
TOMNEL4 November 2007
I actually really enjoyed this Halloween special. It had some really funny jokes, and I enjoyed all of the segments, despite the fact that some had nothing to do with Halloween. However with that said, this was still a great episode and the best Halloween special over the last few years. One thing that actually makes it better, is all the stories focus on the Simpsons family with no special guest stars. Also, although the two of the segments were parodies, at least they weren't nonstop montages, like last years.

The opening segment was actually quite good. Marge kills various Fox logos and makes it into bread. This was a surprisingly good opening!

The first segment, "ET: Go Home", is an obvious parody of E.T. starring Bart and Kang. Bart finds Kang in the backyard, but Kang isn't as peaceful as everyone thinks. It was a pretty good segment, but it wasn't great. It has some funny lines, and some good ol' Treehouse of Horror violence.

Segment number 2 does not fit in as a Halloween story, but it is violent. Marge and Homer are, unbeknown-st to each other, a pair of hit-people who are going for the same kill. When Marge gets the kill before Homer, they try to kill each other. This was by far the funniest of the segments, even though it didn't belong as a Halloween segment. Funny lines and great sight gags make this a solid second act to the show.

The final story, "Heck House" is about Bart, Lisa, Nelson and Milhouse playing pranks on Springfield, and only Ned Flanders, along with the help of God, can stop them. I really enjoyed this story, except for the abrupt and plain ending. Even though I said earlier I don't generally enjoy montages, the one in this episode was really funny, the best part being Nelson punching smiling Hans Moleman in the face. I found the joke that Homer got his head stuck up Plopper the pig's butt odd, but it was funny too.

This was by no means prefect, but it was a funny Halloween special and the best one in the last few years.

My rating: *** out of ****. 30 mins. TVPGDLVS

Good for a few laughs

Warning: Spoilers
Treehouse of Horrors XVIII

Segment 1: ET Go Home Kodos is found in the garden shed by Bart, and asks for the things needed to make a phone to contact whatever home planet he/she is from (the list extending from plutonium to tickets to Avenue Q). When he/she makes the phone, aliens come to earth and end up fighting briefly with the humans. I think that this segment was pretty funny, a good Halloween theme. I liked the ET parody. *** out of ****

Segment 2: Mr. and Mrs. Simpson In the spirit of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Homer and Marge find out they're both secret hit men. They do the famous dinner scene, and end up tearing their house apart. The police come, and when Marge and Homer kill Chief Wiggum, they find themselves more attracted to each other than before, and end up doing the dirty on top of Chief Wiggum's body. I didn't really get this segment, it wasn't that funny, and had nothing to do with Halloween, which is the point of the Treehouse of Horrors. * out of ****

Segment 3: Heck House It's Halloween in Springfield, and Millhouse, Nelson, Bart and Lisa go trick-or-treating. What starts as one trick turns into an all night prank-a-thon, enraging the townspeople. Ned Flanders volunteers to teach the merry pranksters a lesson in the church's Heck House. He plans to scare the "H-E Double Sippy Straws" out of them, and with a little help from the divine powers of God, he does. It ends with Ned telling us that by watching FOX and its affiliates, we're all going to Hell. It's probably one of the better Treehouse of Horror segments I've seen, and definitely the highlight of the episode. **** out of ****

Episode Overview: Overall, not the best episode, but it did have some high points. The opening sequence was funny, copying the logo gag from Family Guy where Quagmire ends up raping Marge and shooting her family. Marge introduces the show, and then dust busts an American Idol logo that pops up in the corner, and sticks Jack Bauer from the 24 logo to her fridge. Finally, she microwaves Dr. House from his House logo, and cooks them all in bread she serves to Homer. Very funny. It didn't disappoint, but it didn't dazzle, either.

E.T. would be proud

Warning: Spoilers
The reference to Columbo in the first segment was hilarious for sure, and so was the reference to American Idol and House at the beginning of Treehouse of Horror XVIII (that's 18 for those not versed in roman numerals). Anyway, I must admit the first ten seasons is the golden era for sure, but still I enjoy watching the Treehouse of Horror (or Treehouses of Horror in the plural) no matter what season.

The end-up of E. T. The Extra Terrestrial started most impressively, but unfortunately lost steam towards the end with Homer and the pillow.

Mr & Mrs Simpson was the second episode, a send-up of Mr and Mrs Smith.

Very Disappointing Episode
e_daneva16 December 2023
Treehouse of Horror XVII is a kinda bad. I have watched 5 other Season 19 episodes, 3 bad, 1 okay, 1 good, and 1 really good. This episode falls in the bad category. Treehouse of Horror XVII just have really unscary stories that, I gotta admit, it's kinda funny, but the segment are just, less entertaining. Like all the other Treehouse of Horrors were just more interesting. Let me review this three segments now.

Segment #1, E. T Go Home. This segment is probably the second best segment and the second worst segment. E. T Go Home is okay, but it really has nothing to do with Halloween and it just isn't that interesting. This is the first Kang and Kodos segment in a long time, so that makes it a bit more exciting. This segment is a meh segment. I give this a 5.4 out of 10

Segment #2, Mr. And Mrs. Simpson. This segment is actually okay. It has a lot of cool action scenes, and it is a bit funny, but this still doesn't have anything to offer. I give this a 6.2 out of 10

Segment #3, Heck House. This is my least favorite segment. Lisa acts like she tries to get the boys out of trouble when she really doesn't, and Flanders becomes evil, and it just happened in 6 minutes. I give this segment a 5.1 out of 10

In all, I give this Treehouse of Horror a 5.6 out of 10.

A great classic i started to watch it on Star+

The intro starts with Marge making some halloween pumpkin cupcakes and suddenly out of nowhere appears so many different characters from show annoying marge. The first segment called Et Go Home which is a common reference to Et The Extraterrestrial after Bart discovers an alien outside his yard, the second segment Mr and Mrs Simpson which is a common reference to the 2005 movie Mr and Mrs Smith after Homer and Marge try to kill each other and they end up causing a lot chaos and the final segment Heck House after Bart, Lisa Milhouse and Nelson play pranks on people Ned Flanders and the others citizens of Springfield teach the four of them a lesson. The ending was just the same music same as the treehouse of iv.

I don't think any other future Season 19 episode could be worse than this - easily the worst yet.
killbill50018 November 2007
With the exception of Treehouse of Horror XII (Season 13), this episode is easily the worst Treehouse of Horror of all time. No kidding. It's just a joke from start to finish. There's nothing good about it, there are no redeeming qualities to anything in it, it's just an implausible mess.

The first two episodes of Season 19 were poor, followed by two great episodes, followed by this joke of an episode. And I can tell you: I doubt anyone with even a shred of intelligence is laughing. Honestly Simpsons producers, don't insult us with this lazy excuse for an episode.

Segment 1 ("E.T. Go Home") - A shocking parody which occasionally takes a break from being boring and unfunny, and becomes nauseating. F

Segment 2 ("Mr. and Mrs. Simpson") - A decent parody of a stupid movie. The result? A stupid segment. - C-

Segment 3 ("Heck House") - Easily the most disjointed, badly-characterised segment of all of them. Also plagued with rigid, inexpressive animation. D-

Overall: F
