A Worthy Member of the Criminal Mastermind Lineage
gavin69421 April 2010
After a horrible incident, police officer Tom Armstrong retires and moves to Mexico. But he is forced to return when the madman who targeted him once has returned, and only Armstrong knows the killer's mind well enough to play his games. But, of course, this only makes him a target.

Director Robert Kurtzman ("Wishmaster"), more generally known as the FX maestro behind scores of films (often in the horror genre), brings his vision to the script of Alex Vesha, who knows something about tense situations, psychotic (but brilliant) killers and bomb scares. There are more than a handful of moments here where lives are on the line -- sometimes hundreds. Eat your heart out, Jack Bauer.

While the lead role of Armstrong (Sean Patrick Flanery) has to be admired, there's no denying that Joe Pantoliano steals the show as The Lion. Menacing, devious, a master of disguise... he's a perfect casting choice for a villain. Despite decades in acting (including "The Goonies", "The Matrix" and "The Sopranos"), he still hasn't really achieved the notoriety he deserves. This probably will not be the film that breaks him into the top tier, but that day is coming. Watch out, Kevin Spacey.

I have to say I'm not really keen on the romantic aspects, and there is some slowness in general where the piano music kicks in. I understand the importance of the romance and relationships in this one, but there is a break in the pace that I think ultimately works against the fast action of the movie. I cannot really offer a solution of how to reconcile the need for romance and the pace, though, so I think the best was done with what they had. I would have replaced the romantic interest with a platonic partner or boss, but that's just me.

While I think the film is mildly flawed, due primarily to the pacing issue, it is worth seeing for anyone who enjoys the police or thriller genres. As stated, The Lion is a worthy villain in a long line of criminal masterminds, and Vesha, Kurtzman and Pantoliano really bring that to the forefront.

Not Good but not bad
ithacared6627 April 2010
I'll admit that this is not a great movie, the plot is simple and you can see some turns coming a mile away. However this is an entertaining movie, the performance by Sean Patrick Flannery is very good and the acting of Joe Pantoliano is excellent. Both are believable and deliver good performances. On the other hand the acting of just about everyone else is atrocious especially Carmen Serano she should not be allowed to be in any more movies towards the end I kept hoping she would be next to die so I wouldn't have to listen to her anymore. This movies a one you should rent on a night when you want to be entertained by a mindless movie that doesn't require you to think to much, if you do that you will have fun.

A REALLY GOOD SUSPENSE THRILLER
lukem-527603 October 2019
Deadly Impact is a really good suspense Thriller with some good action scenes & two good leads!!!

I had never seen a "Sean Patrick Flanery" film until i finally watched "Deadly Impact" & he made a good lead & seems like a good solid actor & done very good here as a troubled cop who has done something horrific to the one he loved because he had to!!!

The real star of this exciting Thriller is the Awesome "Joe Pantoliano" who plays a real sadistic evil terrorist they call "The Lion", this guy is so smart & so remorseless, he's a great villain & it's a great performance by "Joe" who is planting bombs all over a city & uses some very funny disguises!!! You get to feel the hate between the Cop & the Terrorist as it's all very personal & gets very intense. A real Cat & Mouse Thriller full of intensity & action & Directed by a legend within the Horror genre "Robert Kurtzman" who is an fx wizard & has done amazing work on "From Dusk Till Dawn '96" which he also helped write the script & has helped create tons of horror movies & has directed a few but his best was the excellent "Wishmaster" back in 1997, this "Deadly Impact" was his first time directing a "Action Thriller" instead of a Horror & he done a great job.

Yes this is a very low-budget B-movie that is made in the old school mould of action Thriller films like "Lethal weapon" & others & that's a good thing!!! I really enjoyed Deadly Impact

deadly impact? not likely
kentaur6926 April 2010
First of all, I love a decent action flick as much as the other guy, given it has a good story, good acting, some nice twists, good action sequences, (keep in mind, I said GOOD and NICE, not PHENOMENAL or BRILLIANT)and let's not forget about the mandatory blond/brunette/redhead bombshell. Deadly Impact has none of the above. Apart from it's cheesy title, the only two good things in this movie are Sean Patrick Flanery and Joe Pantoliano - that's why I gave it 2 stars instead of 0 - , and even they are far from their usual acting. It took me half the movie to realize that Carmen Serano really IS the female lead in this movie, and I can't understand why on earth would the producers/casting/director/studio choose an ugly-tranny-lookalike when there are so much more rising - and HOT - female stars out there. And some who CAN act, too. Not even Sean Patrick Flanery's shaggy, beat-up-look - which is always welcome - can't save this one from sinking. Final report: don't bother, unless you have absolutely nothing to do for about one and a half hours. Watch The Boondock Saints instead! (both)

A decent watch
rockiethadog11 April 2010
In all honesty, I really enjoyed this movie. It was a decent thriller. It reminded me a little of the TV show 24 for some reason, maybe the storyline. Flanery and Pantoliano do a pretty good job and really make this film. I think the movie could have been better with a different female lead, she just didn't seem to suit the part. I must say though, she is a hottie!! Most of the rest of the cast just make up the numbers. One downfall was that I didn't really like how music played through most of the movie, I don't understand why they do this.

If you like movies in the same genre as speed and the like you will enjoy this one.

Dull and predictable
kbl-8009927 January 2019
The script in this movie is very flat. The plot is very predictable and not particularly thrilling. The female lead is eye candy for the lads, but she didn't really sell the part - and her dialogue was pretty weak.

Deadly Impact - Hardly
john-244112 April 2010
Another revenge flick that makes ridiculous demands on the audience - the acting is only just above the typical WWF performance, nothing else is. The plot, premise and screenplay are pure simplistic pantomime. Don't bother unless you are really sucked in by the plots in WWF. Why oh why do these action films have to have such contrived story lines to execute screenplay. An irritating dick-waving contest between and evil 'mastermind' who despite having the ability to take on any challenge sets about playing games with the dumbest cop in police enforcement history. It is very hard to imagine an psychopath so cruel that he would not have just finished the idiot in the first scene and spared us all the agony.

Poorly acted tripe
robertasmith29 June 2019
Silly and unbelievable story line. Wooden acting to a script that is a mish mash of so many other films. The title should be 'deadly cliché'. The biggest crime in this film is that from the first 5 minutes it leaves things unexplained as if key sections had been cut to confuse the audience. There is little or no tension and it becomes so predictable you can leave the film for 20 minutes in the sure and certain knowledge not much of consequence will have happened.

Surprising suspenses
arieliondotcom22 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
From before the title even appears you're given a mini-movie that let's you know from the start this is no formula flick. please don't let those talking about plot holes etc discourage you from seeing this. It's fun, it's full of surprising twists and it doesn't have an overwhelming amount of super-sicko stuff that make you wonder what kind of pervs the writers must be.

Yes you must suspend your belief at times but no more than in most movies of this type, and this one is much less predictable than most. I actually applauded at the ending because there's no way you can see it coming. Think of a Bruce Willis movie, only with the Bruce Willis part being played by Satan as the bad guy in the film. There is plenty of action and the only really predictable part is the survival of the lead and a steamy roll around on the floor with the love interest.

I highly recommend you ignore the negative reviews and watch. it's one of the few movies I've seen lately that has the mature subject matter of a plot that doesn't make you ashamed to have seen it.

surprisingly suspenseful, unpredictable and a satisfying conclusion without too much gore or sicko stuff (not even that much cursing except a spattering of F's and MF's here and there, noticeably lighter than most films). . Not much more than that you can ask of a thriller

A ridiculous film
philcroucher-3766716 January 2017
Cliché ridden, ridiculous plot. The usual females blundering into stupid situations and have to be rescued by the hero from the usual serial killer/terrorist/bank robber*. Plenty of explosions, with not even sardonic humour to lighten the load.

*Delete as necessary.

It happened to be on when I was doing something else, so I'm glad I didn't actually have to pay to see it.

It rates even lower than Columbo as optical chewing gum (and that's being unfair to Columbo), so if you've literally got nothing else to do, with not even a root canal in the offing, maybe watch it.

Inconsistent stuff
matevz-vidmar198918 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie sucks so much I am actually angry. Its the most illogical thing ever seen on TV. OK the acting was lets say decent but unless you are stupid as me, don't watch. Couse you could surely do something better, for example eat a row potato. Its a very annoying movie due to the fact that no matter how hard I try I cant believe the incredibly stupid, illogical and completely inconsistent story.

Short synopsis: A guy who had been forced to kill his wife by a psycho gets reinstated into the police in order to help find the psycho then some people get killed and at the end the good guy supposedly surprises you and kills the psycho end of story.

I like crappy movies but this is too much crap even for me. Cliché is the right word to describe this movie and bad, yes that also.Im giving it 4 because its bad but not that bad. But i think the guy who wrote the story should be shot or at least forbidden to write scripts.

Alexander Vesha, please contact me, I'm confused.
ronvashon17 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
OK, the opening action sequence...His wife is taped to a pole in a basement somewhere, surrounded by dynamite. OK, got it. They can't approach her or leave the basement or risk blowing up. Got it. The switch to shut off the dynamite is a glass vial taped to her chest. I rewound to make sure it was taped, and not implanted in some way. OK, so the bad guy says to disarm the room, the vial must be broken and somehow the only way to break the vial, at least in Alexander Vesha's mind is to shoot the woman. Why can't an object be thrown at the woman? What a hero this dude could have been. plays out something like....' Now honey, I need you to sit up straight, arch your back, close your eyes and keep completely still. The little heart on your chest? I need you to point it right at me. Then take off a shoe and hurl it at her. Break the vial and all is well. Better yet, most of the cops had helmets on. Throw one of those, or tie two together with show laces, effectively creating a ball and throw that. Hollywood, or in this case, Columbus Ohio, is fresh out of creative solutions.

96 minutes of my life that I can never get back
brendan-26811 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Um yeah, this film was basically a really, really terrible 'Speed' knock off (minus the bus, the tension, the acting skill, a decent plot, a decent DP and director) that was so bad that it actually became comedic by the end - I don't even consider it good enough to warrant a 'made for TV' status. Yep, it really is that bad.

Honestly, don't waste your time - and whatever you do, please don't be fooled into wasting 96 minutes of your life, like I was, by the fact that this schlock features two known actors (Sean Patrick Flanery and Joe Pantoliano).

I don't think I've seen a film this bad since I was foolish enough to watch one of the those cheap straight-to-DVD knock-offs with names like 'Transmorfers' and 'I Am Omega' - I'm actually surprised that Mark Dacasos didn't make an appearance in this film.

The biggest disappointment of all for me was the fact that Joe Pantoliano got involved with this thing - does he have some massive gambling debts or something? Or maybe they forgot to give him his acting career back when they reinserted him into the Matrix?

Solid Action Thriller
chickie24818 April 2010
Director Robert Kurtzman's first foray into the action/thriller genre certainly won't be his last. While I have always enjoyed Kurtzman's horror flicks and magnificent special and make-up effects, I was anxiously awaiting his directorial debut into another type of film. I was not disappointed, as "Deadly Impact" is a solid thriller. Joe Pantoliano plays an assassin who is wreaking havoc on his victims, and Sean Patrick Flannery plays a cop on the team assigned to stop him. As Flannery's character gets closer to finding the assassin, he becomes the object of the assassin's wrath and the cat-and-mouse game begins. The two characters try to outwit and out-think each other up, right up until the very end. Be sure to grab this on DVD for an entertaining movie night.

Worst movie I have seen...
duenuard24 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This move was absolutely HORRID. I actually didn't even make it half way through before turning the TV off. One thing that bugged me more than ANYTHING was the fact that the movie supposedly traveled 8 years in time... and... everyone... looked... exactly... the... same... Maybe they attempted to make the actors look older, but I'm pretty sure if 8 years went by, there would be at least a LITTLE grey going on. But nope, Greg Serano looked exactly the same with his dark black hair. No grey, no wrinkles, no nothing. Sean Patrick Flanery looked like he had the same scruffy beard going on, with the same exact hair style through out the 8 years, too. Like, come on. Really? It just seemed like the directors didn't care about little things and basically only cared about rushing through scenes to hurry up and make the viewers happy when the good guy won. Typical.

Another thing that bugged me was the fact that it looked and felt like such a low-budget type of movie. They must have just found some random people on the street and said "HEY! WANNA BE IN A MOVIE? FREE MONEYZ!" The acting was atrocious. I like Sean Patrick Flanery because the Boondock Saints was basically amazing from start to end. His acting wasn't as good as I've seen... but still, it was better than everyone else. And, ummm... Carmen Serano? Who? Never heard of her. Never want to see her in anything again. Please. WORST acting I have seen in a "big" movie. I felt like she was reading the script while she was on camera.

I could go on, but it's not even worth it. I would NOT recommend this to ANYONE. Don't waste your time.

"bomb" is the word
roblawca24 February 2012
Warning: Spoilers
Worst movie I have ever seen. No exaggeration. Acting terrible, plot line worse. The idea that someone invested in this bomb is, simply, stunning. I barely managed to watch the whole movie only because I prayed that the lead female would die.

She didn't.

Bad guy did.

Even that small joy was denied the audience.

Reminiscent of the worst cops and robbers movies of the 70's.. The depths of the stupidity of the law enforcement in this movie spoke volumes of the ignorance of the writer (their couldn't be more than one). Every time you think "they can't be this stupid", they prove you wrong. Inconceivable that someone watched this and said, "Lets release this and put our names to this."

I've seen porn with a more believable plot line.

Didn't care for this much.

No better or no worst
gary-3338021 August 2021
Deadly Impact is no better or no worst than Speed minus the bus ride for a low budget film the two stories seem very similar they both dealt with a bomber on the loose but this is where Deadly Impact falters the action is far few between and Joe Pantoliano does a better job at being a crazed bomber than Dennis Hopper's character in speed and the surprise ending which I thought was original which I won't give away you will have to watch it and I will give it a five star rating for effort.

Truly Awful
le_storm25 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
A predictable, stereo-typed load of American patriotic turd. So his wife died, you cant win it all, but that doesn't stop him nailing his co-worker later on. another perfect example of how American action thrillers display their ideal American dream achieved by loosing morals. I honestly don't recommend this for anyone, not children as its far to gory and aggressive, not adults because it is so unbelievably mind numbing it makes it amazingly difficult to watch and even harder to enjoy. As for the ending, well what a cop out. By some miracle they figure out where a mastermind is, someone they have been following for years because he makes such obvious mistakes. WHAT A PLOT HOLE! So unbelievable it actually made me cringe.

Really disappointed.

Entertaining From Start to Finish
funnyfarm8218 April 2010
This film kept me entertained from start to finish. It reminded me of "Speed" or "Blown Away" with the same type of tension and suspense throughout the story, with interplay between the cop and the killer. Sean Patrick Flannery did a great job as a cop who rejoins the police force to track his old foe, an assassin played by Joe Pantoliano. The supporting cast, including Greg Serano as the cop's partner and Carmen Serano as an FBI agent also tracking the assassin, did a nice job as well, though they are not as seasoned as Flannery and Pantoliano. The soundtrack was great and really added to the film. This is definitely worth a look on DVD, although I am disappointed it is not going to be released on Blu-Ray.

3 words: Lame, lamer, lamest
Finbar-112 January 2014
I was duped into wasting 1 1/2 hours of my valuable life on this movie because the poster looked like it might be a decent cop movie and the fact that they cast Sean Patrick Flanery who acted in one of my favourite movies of all time (Boondock Saints).

As the subject line says, it was full of lame; the story was unbelievable and full of holes, I couldn't find myself caring about this guy who loses his wife, Pantoliano's character was more of a tool than threatening, and I was disappointed that Flanery's acting was so bad. I believe this may have been because he appeared to be trying to hide his Irish accent which was so great in Saints. I am not sure why producers try to do this (except when it is obviously important to the story); albeit some actors are much better than others (eg Colin Farrell in Miami Vice).

I try to provide some positive in my reviews (this one is hard), so lets just say watch this purely to put more money into Flanery's pocket to thank him for Saints.

Warning: Spoilers
I was doing dishes so only listened to the beginning 15 minutes. My next chore should have been a long soak in the tub so I wouldn't get grossed out by cheesy bad guy pissing in the poor fishy's bowl. Aw Joe, ya shoulda bought a lottery ticket if you needed money. Time to switch over to How To Train Your Dragon to cleanse my brain.
