7x07 is a weak episode of The 100 that was saved by the last 5 minutes. There were some things I really didn't like with the episode: Octavia comforting Echo over the "death" of her own brother. It really baffles me how they are making it seem like Octavia isn't even phased by Bell's supposed death, how in the world does that make any sense!? The Octavia we've known and loved for 6 seasons would be going absolutely crazy over the death of her brother. The other thing I disliked also had to do with Echo, her flashback scene with Bellamy. Yet another episode passes where we don't see Bellamy... but wait, there he is in a flashback scene for 90 seconds! And.. it's a horrible one, where we see him not only forgive Echo for her past wrongdoings, but also fall for her at the same time?! It felt like a pointless, rushed scene that didn't fit well in the episode. Not to mention, Bellamy & Echo have absolutely no chemistry.
As for the positives: Lindsey Morgan crushed it with her directorial debut. I especially loved all the close up face shots of characters where we got to really see and feel their emotions. Emori, Murphy, & Sheidheda killed it this episode. I finally found myself being interested in the Sanctum storyline for the first time in Season 7. JR Bourne is an incredible actor that can suck you into a scene you otherwise normally wouldn't really care about. Gabriel killed it this episode as well in his short amount of screen time & seeing him join the anomaly team in Bardo & then come face to face with Clarke & her group at the end was incredible. Clarke Griffin's 0.2 seconds of screen time made this episode so much better for me. Getting to see her world come crashing down when hearing of Bellamy's "death" was everything I was wanting to see, I just hope they don't totally brush over it in the coming episodes. The reveal of who The Shepherd is was one that I saw coming, but was still absolutely shocked by at the same time. Bill Cadogan, a minor character from back in Season 4, turns out to be who might end up being the big bad of this season. This is an incredible way to tie into the backdoor pilot (7x08) for the potential prequel we have coming up & I'm actually really excited to see how it'll play out! What I'm still really curious about is WHO the people on Bardo are going to war against? Is it against Sanctum? People from a planet we have yet to learn about? Still tons of questions to be answered in a dwindling number of episodes left.
Hopefully after 7x08, we will get to see more of Clarke, Bellamy, & the rest of our core group. One of my biggest distastes with Season 7 is the lack of screen time for our OG characters. Let's hope Jason Rothenberg didn't completely forget about the characters that kept his show's fans invested so heavily for so long.
