Oh, The Places You'll Go!
jyatesnewyork16 July 2019
The premise of this reality show is crazy. The couple supposedly have been engaged for FOUR years, but have only spent a total of 4 months together, so they want to get more "we time" under their belts as a couple before tying the knot. They want to accomplish this while traveling to various other countries and participating (often with pretty obviously forced consequences) in the lifestyles of groups in the places they go. They figure this will help them get to know each other better. But: Oh no! Sometimes the woman finds the man annoying because he is too attached to his camera! And: Oh yikes! The guy is driven crazy by how long his fiancée takes to find just the right place to go to the loo, in plain sight. But here's the thing: if you like scenic and unusual places, and you can handle two good looking Aussies chatting at your face in not terribly droll but fairly obvious asides, try this show. I would say it's sort of 30 day Fiancé meets Naked and Afraid. Kind of irritating, kind of interesting. What do you think? Grade: C

Very entertaining and better than I expected
carladesousa2 May 2020
I was surprised by some comments about these guys being unauthentic, or disrespectful to other cultures. I didn't feel that way throughout the show at all. Frankly, if there was an experiment with several other westerner couples going through what they experienced, I wouldn't expect different comments or reactions to some of the rituals- this is how authentic I felt they were. In my view it's just a show with a great scenery and beautiful photography, and a very relatable idea behind it...different ways of looking at commitment, love and compromise, both individually and within different cultures. And all happening while a couple discovers and evolves with each-other, going through the struggle of spending way too much time together (this is why many divorces happen after vacations by the way). I am not saying it is a masterpiece, I also don't think it was intended as such, but frankly it was very entertaining and a lot better than I expected. If there is a season 2, who knows, maybe about kids education around the world, I am definitely watching it (and will expect credit for the idea) :)

Beautiful Imagery ... Heavily Scripted Documentary
caiotbr15 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Aside from the beautiful cinematography and amazing locations It's kinda sad that the doc is obviously heavily scripted, I feel like that was no need for it Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the doc and don't mind being kind of manipulated by the existence of a script. I guess the problem is that it was too obvious and cheesy most of the time .

Disrespectful af
tinajean-9454117 March 2020
I love the idea of the show but the cringe from watching how absolutely disrespectful this couple is was too much. With different people this would have been my favorite show.

Rude and disappointing
eydiso16 March 2020
I was looking forward to see this, but 10 minutes in I find them rude, egocentric and disrespectful.

I was disappointed on how they make faces and comment on other peoples ritual as "disgusting" and "dirty". They're not respecting the locals and the fact they put time, work and effort.

I did not expect much
Duli_van_Son17 July 2019
And got more then I wanted. But 1 Year cramped into 8x30 minutes is not enough to grasp what they actually did, as they have been in each location several weeks. It just gives glimpses into all the fascinating areas they have been and what they experienced. There is a nice nice story line well told through with highs and lot of lows and an overall message. I never thought I would be invested into this series, but in the end: I would like to see more. It is way to short for the amount of locations they have been.

Entertaining but shallow.
ferinkyra21 July 2019
I decided to watch this because I grew up loving shows like Lonely Planet and I have a soft spot for *good* reality TV. It's entertaining enough to watch as filler if you are doing chores or don't really need to pay attention deeply. It's a lesson in what NOT to do cross culturally...I spent a large chunk of time being embarrassed. I also found the dialogue and plot points a bit to obvious and scripted versus supposed reality TV. However, it is still really interesting to see different cultures and places and how they treat marriage and love.

Not a moment that isn't put on
elliew2519 July 2019
This is the most strangely acted 'reality show' I've seen. There wasn't a moment where they were just being real. Every sentence was forced or scripted. I question if this is even a real relationship, if it is I've got no insight from this as to what their relationships truly like

Cringy and so acted...
rani-c18 July 2019
I really cringed watching this... How they talk against each other, how he tells her not to do something and then she does it to show she's a strong, independent woman... so acted.

Extreme? Yup extremely insufferable.
marclamparter21 July 2019
As someone else said: insufferable self absorbed couple. The guy thinks he's the bomb, and she puts up and takes care of him -what a backwards message in the 21st century. Disrespectful to others culture's as well. She starts of by saying what a catch he is: Reality: A bald 30 plus year old who thinks he has to relive his teenage years and have his girlfriend take care of him. A waste of time. Don't support this kind of message, Netflix can put their budget to better use.

The premise of the show itself is very unique.
jay_dawg17 July 2019
I found this show to be quite interesting. The situations these two find themselves in is at time hilarious and at others endearing. The wide range of diverse cultures they explore together is fascinating. One criticism I do have though, is that at times they do tend to be a little disrespectful in terms of how they handle some of the rituals that they encountered. They did go into their journey to experience these cultures and should have been a bit more respectful. However, with that said, I honestly believe the series is still very much worth watching.

A LOT of conflict
godin_al22 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I initially liked the story platform. To see this couple learn about relationships from different cultures from around the world. But, sadly, it seems these 2 barely even know each other. From a self centered man child and a girly girl that hates anything outdoors, the tension from their negativity and lashings they deal one another is hard to watch episode after episode. I will admit, I love PJ's willingness to try to make things work and to go out and doing this adventure despite this laying way out of her comfort zone. She participates and tries things despite not feeling comfortable with it. So kudos for her on that. However, she complains almost non-stop through each episode. So that gets a bit old. Tim is probably the most annoying as he just acts like this boy adventurer and dragging PJ all around hoping she will change her from the girly girl to the Tarzan and Jane storybook romance he craves. He has a better relationship with himself and his camera than he does with the woman he supposedly loves. He seems to put everything else as a priority before her. So it does bring out more frustration and conflict.

I think couples counseling prior to this big adventure may have helped a lot of things. But I guess we will see how things go.

Best thing on netflix in the last 12 months. Tim and PJ are the cutest couple ever. The on screen chemistry is palpable! Great show, great locations, great stories. Very interesting to see so many cultures and traditions showed with such grace and subtlety HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Frankly Disrespectful
jessicacrawford-7841931 July 2019
Not very enjoyable when the female lead has a horrible attitude & relentlessly mocks the culture & practices of tribes that welcomed them into their communities. Very disappointed; this show had so much potential to really showcase some unique practices around the world but they fell short.

Disrespectful
bellaluna-3031130 July 2020
In the very first episode I found it really disrespectful towards the local tribe that provided them food and a place to stay. Insulting they rituals and complaining about the place. Not worth watching.

Extremely Atrocious and Fake
keikoyoshikawa26 January 2020
Yet another set of reality TV "couple" seeking fortune and fame through fakery.

Watch this only for the people and cultures that are showcased. Don't watch it expecting honesty and realness, because there isn't any.

The only thing remotely real is the uncouthness that comes across clearly from the two so-called "world traveler" leads. What an embarrassment for Australia.

Mars and Venus in a voyage
montsef_angel11 August 2019
Was a good combination about two different type of mentalities, each of them adventurous in their own way, I love the places they visit, not something you usually see in your daily life, plus is q very original idea for tv show, traditions, culture and beautiful places and people

This is a must watch!!
michelle_kummer17 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I binge watched this show on Netflix last Sunday. I highly recommend it, not only for the incredible scenery of remote places in the world using Tims drones and cameras, but also the journey that Tim and PJ take to see whether or not they can marry one another despite all the hurdles along the way. This is unscripted and raw. Kudos to PJ for manning up and participating in all the strange rituals Including eating pigs balls, a turtles penis and sitting on a horse in -30 degree for 9 hours in countries such as Nigeria, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Mongolia to name a few! This girl is a legend, not a princess, barely complains and just gets into it! Every couple should take an adventure like this prior to getting married!

The tribes are fascinating.
amber_leighjj21 July 2019
The tribes are fascinating, kind, caring and very open to let two strangers into their homes. The two people coming into their homes, however... PJ especially was very rude of their way of life and would be very blatant and disrespectful towards the things they were doing. Tim would give the whole thing a go and would get told off by PJ constantly, once saying something along the lines of 'if you loved me you wouldn't'. Their relationship is terrible and it's made even more terrible with very little effect for the camera, which is all they care about. It's uncomfortable to watch. But the tribes people are cool.

"Ugly" Aussies Being Fluffy
caramia200220 March 2020
I would use the classic phrase "Ugly Americans", but they are not Americans. Netflix has been party to this type of clueless series before, except that this time, it involves indigenous people and a huge lack of respect for same. That two so-called "serious" journalists (actually, I don't really know, I am not Aussie), who have done stories all over the world, manage to turn what could have been a great series on tribal culture and the environment, into a reality show joke.

Self-absorbed, clueless TV personalities set off on extreme, year long vacation in order to spend more time together (which they never got because he took off for 2yrs right after proposing). Tim is ever trying to find his manhood (you mean 2yrs doing tribal man rituals around the world didn't do it?) in some weird, ancient manly man manner. He never stops saying that if he just catches this shark, kills this pig, or puts their lives yet again in danger, that PJ will "admire" and respect him. He is beyond irritating and pushy and I would have reacted in the same way PJ does. I've known people like this and they have zero ability to get out of their own heads and think they know what is best for you ("why doncha just..."). I'm not sure how much of the "conflict" is real, however. And many of the scenarios seem planned.

The real shame, and shame it is, is that this couple, by paying them or bringing meat, or whatever, or just being white (PJ is multi-racial, but probably seems white to them) get the tribes to cooperate in this venture, all the while being snide and sarcastic about their food, customs, and lives. Animals are killed and labor provided for white people "quests", which people living in subsistence can ill afford, and all manner of ridiculousness ensues. There is not a mention of how these peoples maintain their way of life in our world, nor any thorough overview of anything. Only this fluff series about their romance and much "will they or won't they". But who cares???? Well, by the end, I did fairly passionately think that she should dump him and his camera and stupid, forceful, controlling, childish ideas overboard. I won't spoil it, but it's anti-climactic and not really worth the watch and not as suspenseful as advertised.

Tim is a complete manchild, loser and bore and without PJ, who is a classic, witty, bouncy morning TV host type, this would be even worse than it is. She is actually very humorous, but often at the expense of her hosts and their cultures who usually don't know what she's saying. She is actually the man (in a good way) Tim wants so hard to become, but can't, because he can't stop his ENDLESS whining about his parent's divorce when he was 7 or something.

Not recommended while you eat. Or any other time, actually.

The couple ruined the show
afiqborhanuddin10 April 2020
The couple ruined the show for me. PJ specifically is always so negative and complaining. I can't really find anything good about her. The show is very annoying but I watched the whole season and there's not a single moment that I like her. If there's a second season I wouldn't watch it unless they find a better couple.

It reminds me of my first year of marriage. Learning and coming to terms about who your partner really is and learning more about yourself and growing together. But their setting is much more challenging and amazing!
