A beautiful love tale.

I had low expectations of this low budget film. I thrilled to myself wrapped up in the romance and complexity of revisiting our past loves. You feel the excitement through the chemistry of the talented leads as they explore their feels and the lavish southeast Asian location.

Enjoy.

Love revisited

Warning: Spoilers
This is endearing film about 2 past lovers that meet randomly again in the Philippines. This is not the type of films I normally watch but I like the simplicity of it. Boy sees ex girlfriend in a foreign land & decides to spend an afternoon/evening together. What can possibly go wrong?! There are genuine chemistry between the two leads & the acting is so organic. It is fascinating to get an insight into why they broke up, their proceeding relationships since then, etc.

A Truthful, Emotional, and Modern Romance. Fantastic.

Great to see love and relationships being realistically represented on the big screen. It was refreshing to see the characterisations of the two lovers stray from tired male and female stereotypes. The film cleverly balances audience immersion in the couple's intimate and romantic world, with thought-provoking ideas that stay with you long after the end credits roll. Gorgeous cinematography.

Lots to Love

I really enjoyed the concept underpinning this film and the issues explored. The cinematography, together with the vibrant aesthetic, worked a charm to capture and depict the locations, characters and narrative. With a thought-provoking script and emotive performances, Luke Mayze has given audiences a modern Australian romance that's definitely worth the watch.

Wonderfully filmed, cinematography shows off the beautiful scenery the Phillipines has to offer. Enjoyed the 'first love' giddiness and heartbreakly honest portrayal of how couples choose to navigate their differences. All the feels right there.

A beautifully nostalgic journey!

I loved this film! The cinematography alone was incredible and the storyline is a deep dive into the chance reuniting of a teenage romance as adults. The characters are really relatable. It's a very raw emotional roller coaster that left me in tears and definitely stays with you well after the curtains close.

Forever First Love is an assured debut from talented filmmaker Luke Mayze. Set in the Philippines, it follows the chance meeting of Paul and Anna twenty years after they fell in love as teenagers. Beautifully shot, beautifully scored and with an intelligent screenplay that wrenches stunning and brave performances from its two leads, this is a film for anyone who has ever wondered about rediscovering lost love.

A goddamn real love story
julie_annelisa8 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Forever First Love is a genuine, authentic love story. The characters are so well developed and their dynamic is complicated and real. I liked how it slowly becomes clear that despite their chemisty, they hold different values and just aren't compatable. It felt real to life. A part that really stuck with me is when Anna explained to Paul that she liked the way he looked at her, like a puppy. That she didn't love him, but she loved his attention, his innocent and pure love. The ending was beautiful too, it kinda broke my heart though. It made me think, did Paul question his love... did he wonder if it actually was true love or just an idea of love in the end... or will Anna forever be his first love?

Tender and complex film by director Luke Mayze
acoomer-1914114 October 2023
I'll admit I went into the film with preconceived ideas about its story, however I came away pleasantly surprised. This beautiful little indie stars two wonderful actors, Stephen Rooke and Carlotta Morelli, and I was deeply impressed by both of their performances. Their sensitive portrayals of former lovers reunited was credible and heartbreaking, and this is largely due to the strength of Luke Mayze's writing and directing. This script could have easily leaned into hackneyed tropes and dialogue, but I was delighted to see it steering clear of all the cliches.

If you're a fan of the 'Before' trilogy then you'll definitely love FFL. Both stories chronicle two deeply flawed characters in some of the most stunning locations in the world, and both are masterful journeys through the complexity of human connection and first love.

In particular, FFL is a poignant portrayal of what happens when we fall in love with an idea rather than a person, and how desperately we cling to those ideas rather than facing the truth.

Visually Spectacular

I should start by telling you this movie broke my heart - it's raw and honest and superbly filmed. The cinematography is breathtaking.

The script is understated and moving and the character archs are telling of this new age.

The actors do a wonderful job of portraying their real, yet complicated characters.

Would definitely recommend.

This is a really beautiful story and superbly acted. You really feel a part of the experience and I was continually reminded of past loves. The story is a really deep honest love story in a way that I rarely see in movies anymore. Bravo. Highly recommended for the romantics out there.
