Chiklis is Back
Draysan-Jennings8 January 2021
Great show! Awesome to see Michael Chiklis back on television again. I just wish the season was a little longer. I knocked out every episode in one night. I'm definitely looking forward to season 2. Thankfully this was a great distraction from all the stuff going on in politics at the moment. 7 stars

Great Show
peterjg10112 January 2021
I was wondering why this show had a lower rating than I'd expect. Then, I read the reviews. Can't we go 5 mins without bleating about the politics? Basically, the left thought it stereotyped race and the right though it normalised illegal immigration or some such rubbish. The rest of the low scores complained about the fact that the main character Ben couldn't speak Spanish (a fair point which is why I took off a point and settled for an 8).

Anyway, I found Coyote to be well paced with a nicely developing story that gets you quite interested in the characters. Although it's no Breaking Bad, I get the feeling that was where they were aiming.

So, I can thoroughly recommend this if you can leave your politics at the door and enjoy it for the fiction that it is.

Michael Chicklis is back
Plazeebo7 January 2021
Been looking forward to a decent show with Michael Chicklis ever since The Shield has it's days. He's not as badass as I would have liked, but it's nice to see a well produced show with a somewhat decent story.

So far so Good
celt0079 January 2021
I'm just on episode 1 so far so good . Apparently Mexico is a very violent culture and many women are forced into situations they don't like . These women try to escape into the USA illegally . So a newly retired boarder patrol Agent , who doesn't speak Spanish. ( obviously odd ) . Becomes the focal point of some of these illegal border crossers. Some scenes seem poorly planned but overall I enjoyed the performances would have given higher rating but some of the scenes seemed unbelievable.

An engaging, nuanced thriller. WATCH THIS SHOW!
dgv-357237 January 2021
It seems like trolling TV has replaced watching it as America's favorite pass-time. This show has so much to offer - just turn it on. I just started it to check it out, and before I knew it - I was at the end of episode 2! This show is excellently paced, with action, heart, and wry comedy throughout. It's also a rarity on American TV these days: a nuanced, human portrayal of a complex, divisive issue. Is it perfect? No, but its excellent performances give voice to many perspectives and start a real conversation. The show is a star vehicle for newcomers Emy Mena and George Pullar, introduces otherwise ignorant American audiences to Mexican and Colombian stars like Adriana Paz and Juan Pablo Raba, and of course, Michael Chiklis continues to cement his legacy as one of TV's best.

The shows has some inconsistent moments, but episode 5 is one of the best episodes of TV I've seen in a while, and the show ultimately sets itself up for a fantastic season 2. Did you like Fauda? Watch this show. Did you like Breaking Bad? Watch this show. If you're looking for six episodes of thoughtful high-quality premium television, then just watch the show.

Pedestrian dialogue, unfocused plots, interesting location.
sogoodlooking21 February 2021
The writers don't seem clear on what they're looking to accomplish, and have trouble going more than skin deep on their characters, including their lead. Chiklis plays the all too typical screen curmudgeon. A bland, 'law and order' type, a repressed man in late middle age, even duller than your dullest neighbor. It all barely works, and by tomorrow you won't be able to remember even a single line of dialogue.

Not really a series.
silverton-3795929 May 2022
This has been passed off as a complete first series by the streaming services, when it's actually a part of a series that was abruptly cancelled after the sixth episode. I fell for the fakeout and now wish I hadn't because this story will never be finished.

Michael Chiklis is back!
geoff-1789 January 2021
Great first episode showing much promise and can't wait to watch the rest. I was kind of hoping that Neto was being played by Benito Martinez (Capt. Aceveda from the Shield), and he does have a passing resemblance, but sadly not.

It ain't Vic Mackey
From-DK-with-love2 July 2021
I found it pretty decent, even though Ben didn't speak Spanish., which actually was pretty annoying considering he has been working as a Border Patrol officer for 30 years.

It's far from the quality of The Shield, but it's worth a watch

Another take on it, could be that they continued the 'Vic Mackey' character. He could have got a job as Border Patrol Officer, after the last episode of The Shield, and the series could have continued from there...HE could have got a new wife / divorce etc etc,

I could have been fun, if they have gone that way :-)

Poor research waisted opportunity for something great
landonmcduff22 March 2022
They didn't talk to an actual border agent or ignored everything they said. Really? An agent that doesn't speak Spanish AND has a realestate investment in an area controlled by a crime syndicate he's totally ignorant about? Also had no Bush experience, can't lose a tail and no idea how to track or cover tracks? Ignorant and lazy. Don't waist your time on this one.

Has potential, but isn't Breaking Badesque yet, pace needs to quicken.
ztigr10 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
They are making some mistakes that they need to fix with this show to bring it up a level. Main star is pretty good, but the character needs a wider emotional range. Pissed off 100% of the time isn't sustainable. The baddies are pretty good, excusing the cliche's. The Premise is almost there, but its a bit of a logical leap for this guy to basically hate illegals and then help a woman escape a bad situation only because of his heart strings. I mean this guy must have seen some really really bad situations in his career, and this one doesn't seem to rise to the level of a character change in culture. The second thing is that the first minute he found out his family was not in immediate danger, it would seem logical that he would have taken advantage of the opportunities he did have to contact his authority buddies and stop everything going on. I understood in the immediate he no choice, but rather than call the husband, it seems wiser that he would have called his friends in authority and have them in 911 mode go get is family to safety. Some illogical writing there. Now that he is basically working under cover however, hopefully all of those oversights will fade away. Like I said it has potential, but its not there yet.

Great series
danielcereto9 January 2021
Michael Chiklis and Juan Pablo Raba lead this great series about an interesting story around the US-Mexico border. First, acting is pretty good. Michael is back. Even he is not as good as in The Shield he is still believable and a good actor. Juan Pablo is one of the most Colombian talented actors (watch Distrito Salvaje) and here he does a great job. Second, the storyline is well developed on this first season and 6 episodes are the perfect choose. Last, scenarios are top notch. Calexico and Tijuana looks pretty cool also the camera/drone work. So, overall if you like Mexican-Cartel border action series this one is for you. Great Michael's comeback and Juan Pablo's consolidation.

The Supposed Big Bad Cartel, Agent, Writers, and Storyline Are All Too Dumb to be Believable
quitwastingmytime5 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Don't waste your time on this. Completely unrealistic.

A retired Border Patrol agent who never thinks to put his family into witness protection? Instead he has the new husband of his ex wife send them to Canada. Then to get more ridiculous, the new husband doesn't hide with them and is dumb enough to get himself kidnapped and killed.

And this agent doesn't speak Spanish? I've also never seen a federal agent so fat and out of shape.

This supposed street and border smart experienced agent also does nothing, including with the weapons he's carrying, when a low flying pilot he's paid to sneak him back into the US instead delivers him to the cartel.

The cartel pilot didn't use a weapon, only changes course. But the ex agent just accepts it passively. It wasn't a twist. I laughed out loud at how ridiculous it was.

And the cartel only sends two guys to kidnap him, and the ex agent doesn't try to use his weapons to fight back? Right....

The killing of two BP agents delivering detainees, using a wire strung across the road wasn't horrifying at all because it was also just as unbelievable. It'd kill the same detainees they were trying to free, idiots.

There's a dozen ways anyone can think of to free the detainees without killing two federal agents. Try a roadblock, try a staged accident, just shoot out their tires. Very stupid for supposed expert hitmen. It's just done for cheap shock.

And remember that in real life, Reagan devoted hundreds of agents and tens of millions and even the US military to smashing a cartel that killed a federal agent. It would be incredibly dumb of any cartel to risk the same thing happening. Dumb is what cartels are not.

If you're going to pretend to be realistic and "gritty" stick to believable storylines. Don't give us nonsense.

This is not Narcos. It's a cartoonish film like Scarface, and seems liked the most by those sheltered and dumb enough to think Scarface was realistic.

I won't be seeing any more of this, and am sorry I wasted my time.

Loved this so much
tresia-oshea9 January 2021
Loved the twists and turns . So many WTF moments. A lot of layers and complicated family issues tied together with Cartel gang violence. We really enjoyed it . The six episodes went way to fast.

BP Agents Speak Spanish
brianb08068 January 2021
Off to a bad start Hollywood. So this guy worked for decades as a U.S. Border Patrol Agent and he can't order a beer in Spanish? I'm sure you want the average American Joe to be able to relate to this guy and that's why you made him so stupid that after at least 20 years working on the Border of Mexico, in California, as a Border Patrol Agent, he still can't even order a drink in Spanish. Try harder, do better.

Want more A.S.A.P!!!
bboudreaux-306418 January 2021
I loved it and i definitely am upset that it doesn't have more episodes. Awesome performances from all the cast members. Never a boring moment. There was way to much going on to end after 6 episodes with no word on a return.

The right-wingers are predictably whining about this. Just ignore them. After a couple of episodes, this seems to be a very good show.

Disappointing
fookinguglee12 September 2022
Don't bother starting this series unless you like disappointment. The show itself was pretty good but at the end of the last episode...no resolution of the story lines? No cliffhangers, no nothing, not even a "To be continued"? It was like following a thread just to run into a brick wall. The 6 episodes were released on January 7th but as of September 11th, 8 months later, there have been no further episodes, nor does an online search reveal whether more episodes are even coming. I looked and looked but no one seems to be making any kind of decision about this show, and I for one would like to see it continued. I wish I had known before watching. Then I could've opted for something with at least some kind of resolution and wouldn't have wasted my time.

Surprisingly Awesome
grlym-4684910 January 2021
I did not think I would like this it ended up loving it. It was raw in emotional and philosophical scenes while also feeling quite authentic. Expressing how real life is so much more complicated than a black and white world we think it is.

I hope the show gets to continue. As it was compelling. The show doesn't try to force you to pick one side or the other in the immigration issue. But does allow you to ponder the million shades of gray between the black and white views of people in the subject

I guess they let anyone write TV shows now.
shenique19 January 2021
I learned basic Spanish from working in a Las Vegas Casino for 3 years. The Lead Character is a Border Patrol agent with 32 years service, had a Mexican partner and couldn't speak any Spanish? How does that get a green light? It's a horrible script but I laughed a few times.
