Narrator : Organized crime, as such, is seldom encountered by law enforcement agencies in the rural areas. For the most part, the responsibilities of the Highway Patrol are traffic safety. This is especially true during the harvest season, when the traffic problems are intensified by the increase in truck traffic throughout the farming areas. Fresh-picked crops are carried from farms to markets, and labor contractors are constantly transporting itinerant farm workers to their camps and to the fields. The contractor serves a useful purpose during the harvest season. He furnishes workers in numbers as needed by the farmers - good for the farmer, good for the worker. On September 19th, the Highway Patrol was called in to investigate a crime, when Ed Nash, a contractor, and twelve farm workers met an unexpected detour.
