No. 12 was elegant in it's simplicity. Unlike many shorts this was truly short and it is the rare filmmaker who knows when not to shoot more, when the point has been made. I personally don't penalize a film for a lack of budget but rather revel in the economical use of available resources. In 25 years in the business I believe I have come to recognize the that basest of elements - raw talent and when I saw this little gem I immediately believed this young filmmaker has that. And you can see as well the care that went into making this piece. The shots were interesting without being "artsy" and intense without straying into camp. I have since met Kane at the Phoenix film festival and I believe we will be seeing many more good films from him in the future.
