The Priory of Daniel Jackson
XweAponX22 September 2014
At the end of "the quest", Daniel Jackson had been abducted by Vala's Hellspawn child-of- the-Ori "Adria" (the ever-beautiful Morena Baccarin from FireFly).

This is basically the continuation of that tale. We know that Merlin had dumped his knowledge into Daniels mind, but what we did not know was that Merlin and Daniel were living as one being, and that Merlin had planned this whole scenario from ages long past. The moment Daniel stuck his head into that machine, a certain course of events was destined to play out.

SG-1 hears about a strange Ori prior who is using the soft sell rather than the hellfire promises that regular Ori Priors use. That was all the clue they needed to suspect it was Daniel- and it was.

But what we have here is a dilemma of choices. Has Daniel been completely taken over by the Ori, Or is he still the Merlin-Daniel hybrid, acting out Merlin's plan to destroy the Ori? The whole thing could be an Ori trick to set off Merlin's device in our galaxy, destroying the ancients instead of the Ori.

As each member of SG-1 considers this choice Landry and Woolsey (Robert Picardo) also voice their concerns, and Woolsey's decision is far too drastic.

They even get Jack O'Neill (two L's) involved again- and that is what makes this episode the best episode of season 10.

Because once again we have the original SG-1 team working with the two new members of SG-1 that came from Farscape, Cam Mitchell (Ben Browder) and Vala Mal Daran (Claudia Black)- so it is one big happy family.

Is Daniel really speaking the truth, or is he going to go full-Ori on SG-1, once he gets onto the Ori Mothership? Is he going to hand the device over to Adria?

This episode is Michael Shank's shining hour- he has become a full Ori prior, and he plays the role believably, so much that we are not truly convinced he is telling the truth when he says he is playing a game of sorts. But even if he is lying, there are moments between Jackson and O'Neil that are so much like the conversations they had in seasons one through seven, and even though Jack O'Neill is not part of SG-1 any longer, he still knows Daniel Jackson and Daniel Jackson knows him, these two people know each other better than any other people in the world, or whatever world that they have a gated to in the past.

When it comes down to it this episode shows the human condition: that there has to be faith and there has to be trust even though there is the possibility that we will be lied to or somebody will fool us, we do have to be careful and suspect that this might happen but there are times when we can't assume we are being fooled, and that we have to trust that we are being told the truth.

Bonkers, but brilliant

The Shroud is an episode that takes the Ori story arc to the next level. It is very fast paced, and there is lots and lots of dialog arguing for and against what to do next.

The highlights of the episode for me were: Daniel Jackson as a Prior. The makeup was brilliant, and it made him really look different from the other Priors (Daniel is the only good prior, the others are evil!)

Morena Baccarin in a stunning gold dress!

Robert "Please state the nature of the medical emergency" Picardo

Daniel Jackson following in the footsteps of Captain Kirk, William Riker, Charles Tucker III, and Malcolm Reynolds: seducing women all across the galaxy!

Seriously though, The Shroud is a really good episode, and there are lots of twists and turns along the way. It isn't at all obvious how things will turn out in the end. 9/10 from me.

Daniel is a Spyior
fcabanski12 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Jack is back. That's a good thing. Daniel is a Prior. Nobody knows for certain if that's a good or bad thing. He has a plan to destroy the Ori. That's certainly a good thing.

There are a lot of good elements in this episode. But the main problem is the audience isn't sure about Daniel. That works once (in the first viewing), but it's a cheap trick to create drama. If the audience knows, but the characters don't know, then there's drama. "Hey, he's telling the truth!!!!!!!!!" On second viewing that mystery is gone, so it becomes easier to focus on the characters' reactions. Will they have faith? This episode is about faith. SG-1 shows faith, acting on belief, when they carry out Daniel's plan. Jack shows faith when he closes the connection, allowing Daniel access to the super gate and the Ori galaxy.

Some questions remain. Why couldn't Merlin/Daniel control the ship without being a Prior? Or, if Daniel knew how to fly the Ori ship without a Prior, why was he so worried about taking the ship before reverting back to human form? Sam controlled the ship by following Daniel's instructions. Maybe only a Prior could open the super gate to the Ori galaxy.

Why couldn't the Priors/Orisi build new ships in the Milky Way? They built ships in the Ori galaxy.

The final question is a big one. It has been said the ascended transcend time and space. If that's so, why does the weapon depend on being in the galaxy where the Ori "live"? They transcend time and space. They don't live anywhere.

There's some classic Daniel/Jack interaction. It's typified by an exchange near the end. Jack asks Daniel to prove Merlin is gone. Daniel makes a gesture.

Jack: "What the hell was that?" Daniel: "If I was Merlin you would know." In the end nobody is sure the Ori are dead. But more Ori ships come through the super gate. Even if the Ori are dead, their followers are carrying out the crusade. The invasion just got worse.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode has a shocking event in the beginning. Sg-1 notices that Jackson is a prior. Jackson also has the powers of a prior. Rick is in this episode too. They have a plan to destroy the ancients once and for all, but it does not work. Merlin is still in Jackson's body. Woosey has a little "chat" with Jackson, but it did not go well. Jackson takes control of the Odyssey. They also tried to cut the connection of the Ori super gate. It did not go well either. The result of this act was more big huge spaceships or whatever they are called because i forgot. Oh and did i mention that Jackson looks ugly. No offense. But in this episode, he looks older, ugly, etc. And Merlin's weapon gets completed, and Adria stops Jackson before it is completed.

This episode was great, Danel as a pryor was a little unnerving as he played the role so well apart from the initial interaction with O'Niel ... And talking O'Niel, (due to my OCD) I was getting SO frustrated with the constant continuity re rank insignia (flitting from 1 Star Brigadier General, to 2 star Major General) so many times, it completely distracted me from thoroughly enjoying the episode, finding myself just looking for Jack's rank from scene to scene ... I hope that whoever did the continuity is in alternate employment, or has at least learned to count up to TWO.

That said, I did enjoy the episode and it kept you waiting until the last moment as to which way it was going to go.

Truth or False?
claudio_carvalho2 March 2022
The SG-1 is infiltrated in a village that the Ori wants to impose the faith in the Origin without the use of force, when the Prior arrives. For their surprise, the Prior is Daniel Jackson. They abduct Daniel and brings him to the SGC, where he is interrogated also by Gen. Jack O'Neil and he insists that he is sharing his brain with Merlin as part of the plan to defeat the Ori. He let Adria turn him into a Prior and have not finished the construction of Merlin's weapon. He asks to ope a wormhole to bring the weapon, but everybody questions whether he is telling the truth. But when Richard Woolsey comes to assassinate him, he helps the team to take a decision.

"The Shroud" is an episode of "Stargate SG-1" where the Ori may or may not have been eliminated. The dilemma of the SG-1 team is believable since the members cannot know whether Daniel is telling the truth or not. My vote is seven.

Well developed episode that further develops the main storyline and adds an interesting dynamic (and makeup) to Jackson's character. Effects and acting decent.

Warning: Spoilers
This shows popularity boggles the mind. Someone please tell me why they didn't zap Adria 3 times while she was down? This series needs Spock... where is the much needed logic?
