Very enjoyable Bart and Lisa episode
snoozejonc21 March 2023
Bart and Lisa host a children's current affairs television show.

This is a strong media parody with good character moments.

The main plot contains excellent satire of the lurid material and sensationalist delivery of current affairs show designed to appeal to impressionable audiences.

Bart and Lisa are used very well by the writers to bring out the worst traits of unscrupulous broadcast journalism. Bart in particular embodies the level of falseness required for the role. Lisa's plan to teach Bart a lesson ironically written.

The b-plot involving Homer's pet monkey is a weaker aspect, but it has some funny moments too.

"Pray for Mojo"

Pretty good episode. The part with the helper monkey Mojo was definitely the funniest part of the story. Any episode expanding on Kent Brockman is also hilarious.

Favorite line- "where in the hell is my grilled cheese!".

Growing up, there was a local news anchor that looked just like Kent Brockman. Saw him on TV every night when my parents watched the news.

Weaker Moment of the Ninth Season, but still Fun,
lesleyharris3015 September 2015
Girly Edition is a great Simpsons episode with a very well written storyline and plenty of very funny scenes. It's a fun episode, I enjoyed seeing Bart and Lisa starting a kids news broadcasting channel together, the network executives were one of the funniest moments, and the scene were Bart visits Kent Brockman's mansion would be my favourite part of the episode. It's definitely one of the weaker episodes of the ninth season, this one is jam packed with great episodes and in comparison, this one simply doesn't hit as many high notes, it has a story that really could have gone somewhere, but never goes far enough. The storyline between Homer and his new pet monkey was actually more entertaining to me than the main story was, I really enjoyed seeing him adopt a monkey, many parts had me in stitches, particularly when he got him addicted to donuts, and I felt it ended too soon and could have been developed more, it was a lot fun. It's not the finest episode of the ninth season, but Girly Edition is still an enjoyable Simpsons episode.

Bart and Lisa become rivals as they try to manage a kids news broadcasting series together, meanwhile, Homer adopts a monkey.

Unassuming at First Glance, But Hilarious Moments Abound
santifersan17 September 2023
"Girly Edition" may seem like a weak episode at first glance, but it manages to surprise viewers with its hilarious moments. This episode captures the essence of the golden era of the show, where humor was spontaneous, and it excels in delivering genuine laughs.

What sets "Girly Edition" apart is its ability to reach a level of hilarity that surpasses episodes with more solid storylines. It doesn't rely heavily on a complex plot; instead, it thrives on the quick wit and comedic timing of its characters. The episode's humor feels fresh and unrestrained.

The plot bears the hallmark of the golden era as it unfolds naturally, believably, and realistically, in contrast to modern seasons that develop storylines in an absurd and unbelievable manner.

Throughout the episode, there are genuinely hilarious moments that arise naturally, thanks to the spontaneous style of humor characteristic of the show's golden era. These moments include Homer desperately gobbling up the donut that Mojo has thrown on the floor, Kent Brockman revealing his secret to Bart about winning journalism awards, the crazy cat lady's eccentricities, "The Chocobot Hour" hilariously parodying real-life cartoons and delivering a message against Gaddafi, Nelson making armpit noises in the midst of Kidz New, and many more. These instances of humor feel unforced and genuinely funny, elevating the episode's comedic value to a level that surpasses other episodes with more solid storylines.

I'm Bart Simpson
Gerardrobertson6123 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
One of my favorites from Season 9, this episode sees Bart and Lisa anchor a kids TV news channel, and when the rivalry between Bart and Lisa escalates, this episode really starts to shine. To add this competition, Homer gets a helper monkey, a recipe for disaster that works really well. Many funny scenes here, like Nelson taking over the desk and doing the fart trick with his hand under his arm, and Bart telling a sappy story and finishing with "I'm Bart Simpson".. All in all, one of the better S9 episodes.

She Was Boring
Hitchcoc19 August 2022
Bart moves in on Lisa's action when she is going to anchor a children's news show. He goes for sad, contrived special interest stories, while she presents the boring stuff going on with the kids. Meanwhile, homer buys a monkey who is supposed to work around the house. Not as good as some episodes.
