The One With The Seagulls In The Bedroom...
taylorkingston1 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I really like this episode. It's a great follow-up to the Series Premiere. It's just so funny. I really enjoy it every time I watch it.

In this episode, Alan tries to punish Jake after an incident at Judith's house, but he is struggling to do so. Charlie thinks it's quite funny, until he realizes that Jake needs to be punished, otherwise he will continue to act out and defy his parents rules. He only learns this after he comes home to a bedroom full of seagulls, courtesy of Jake.

Overall, I give this episode a 7 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Great.

When the relation between Charlie and Jake is exploited well
salgonjulien4210 April 2013
Warning: Spoilers
In this second episodes we get to know better the character of Jake who is punishes by his father. The relation Charlie-Jake begins to be completely handled with the laxness of Charlie which is not used to punishing somebody. Certain passages with birds are nice but nothing transcendent in this episode where it is especially Charlie who gets out while the going is good with his(her) usual corrosive humor. If it is a little less good that first this episode remains completely good, well given rhythm. The series still looks itself for little while remaining all the same very entertaining. The continuation(suite) will be there only better.

Glad it didn't go down the sappy path.

The pivotal point for me was when Charlie went out on the patio to explain his situation to Jake that it was private and wasn't shown to the viewer. When Charlie went out to the patio I'm thinking oh no not the "life lesson' crutch that so many sitcoms use. Good news is they stuck to strictly comedy.

Highlights were the flock of seagulls in the house which was quite a funny surprise. Also, the sprinkler water perfectly timed between speaking hitting Jon Cryer in the face was well done. The relationship with the mother is a plus to the show.

Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer's comical bad full toupees are a little distracting.

If you've ever had a bird fly into your house then you'll find this episode hilarious. I sympathise with Charlie for bravely trying to tackle a flock of seagulls that found their way into Charlie's house.

I only had one dirty old pigeon to deal with & that was traumatic enough. It simply just walk in through my balcony door that was open during the summer. I screamed so loud I dunno who was more frightened, me or the pigeon? After the scream, the pigeon turned round & walked straight back out. I was so relieved that since then my balcony door is seldom left open & if it is, it's only left a crack open.

The incident was so life changing for me that my property search no longer includes with 'bi-folding doors', I often wonder how do previous owners keep the vermin out during the summer months?

A good early episode

The standard Chuck Lorre vanity card sets out the 'Two and a Half Men pledge' after this episode. The show would break a few of its own rules throughout its 12 year run, but this episode, from way back in season 1, is a good example of the show when it was at its peak.

There's lots of lovely interplay between both Sheen and Jones, as well as growing chemistry between him and Cryer. There's actual humour, rather than a reliance on sex jokes for the humour, and some genuine moments of heart.

It's a shame this show changed so much as it went through its run, because here it was actually something very good.
