Warning: Spoilers
'Bomb' opens with a curious pre-opening credits sequence in which a jet can be seen depositing a large atom bomb. Before we can see where it lands, we are then onto the credits.

After the credits, we see that the bomb has in fact crashed through the roof of the boys' house and secured itself in front of the fridge. Each try to find ways of dealing with the crisis - Neil builds a nuclear fall-out shelter, Mike tries to sell the bomb to Libya, Rick tries using it to seize power of the government whilst Vyvyan is more interested in trying to detonate the thing...

'Bomb', no doubt coming about as a result of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan at the tail end of the '70's, is my favourite episode of 'The Young Ones', partly due to the performance of 'Jackie Wilson Said' by Dexys Midnight Runners. Hilarious in the supporting cast is Roger Sloman ( who appeared alongside Rik in 'A Kick Up The Eighties' and its spin-off 'Kevin Turvey - The Man Behind The Green Door' ) as sadistic TV detector man Right Bleeding Bastard who is after Vyvyan's blood for eating the television set ( who ate it in an attempt to hide it from him as they have not paid for a licence for it ). I still crease up when I hear him confront Vyvyan - ''The old trick, eh? Eat the telly before I get a chance to nick you!''.

The 'Dicky & Dino' sketch was a dig at 'The Rat Pack' ( whose leader was Frank Sinatra ), satirising their supposed involvement with organised crime.

Things to listen out for - a brief playing of 'I'm Not A Juvenile Delinquent' by Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers over a sequence in which Rick, dressed like a soldier, gives a 'V' sign behind the back of a police officer.

Funniest bit - Vyvyan's hamster plugging into a socket the electric flex hanging from Vyvyan's mouth, electrocuting him! Second funniest bit - Mr. Bastard's ''eat the telly!'' remark!
