Heartbreaking!

This was one of the most powerful episodes of The Wire, though I haven't watched more than 3 seasons. While he wasn't a preferable character, Prez-as the show progressed-became a well-liked, even vulnerable character. This was a truly gripping episode!

There was time I would have used Smith and Wesson

Prez and McNulty go to get Chinese takeout for the crew, whilst Colvin's problems grow in Hamsterdam.

This is a very strong and quite reflective episode with compelling character moments.

It feels that events in Hamsterdam are coming to a head and the writers continue to develop what is a quite radical concept in a fascinating and believable direction.

The incident involving Prez is the best part for me and without spoilers I can say it is a defining character moment and plausibly written. Jim True-Frost gives his best performance so far in the show. Lance Reddick is also great in these scenes.

A more humorous violent incident is written for Omar's scene with his grandmother. This includes an incredibly funny rant from the character in reaction to what happens and Michael K. Williams delivers it brilliantly.

I think the strongest individual scene is the dialogue between Brianna, Avon and Stringer. Not only is it a wonderfully filmed exchange, but it is superbly written and performed.

McNulty's personal life is in heavy focus and the writers do a great job of laying the foundations for what is to come for the character in the next season. Also, when discussing his love life with Greggs, she gives one hilariously sexist line.

Other characters make great contributions such as Dennis, Clay Davis, Lester and Pearlman.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode demonstrated just how tedious, disappointing and unreliable bureaucracy is. From the detail trying to set up a wire to Dennis trying to set up a boxing gym, nothing was happening. Tiresome as it is, it also meant that this episode was once again fairly slow. We did get Prez shooting a cop which was definitely a 'oh wow' moment when McNulty found his badge. He was pretty trigger happy so this isn't really that big a shock I suppose. That is probably the end of him though. Stringer also proved this episode that he is a really slippery, slimey guy. He killed Dee behind his family's back, and now authorises a hit on a Sunday morning. He definitely has it coming. By the way, Theresa getting creeped out by McNulty talking about police work but not when he uses his police powers to track her down isn't adding up at all
