Wow...talk about unusual casting!!

If I had to pick a man to play a maniac who murdered a cop and is on the run from the law, I would have never thought of having Joel Grey play the part. After all, he's a small man and I just couldn't imagine him being menacing...but he did a fine job in this installment of "Telephone Time".

The story is very simple. At the beginning, cops are blockading the road as the maniac's car approaches. It soon plows into the roadblock and there's no one inside! The guy rigged it to drive and bailed out some place...but where? Soon, a mother and son are surprised when he arrives and takes them hostage and then threatens to kill them!! Will they escape...and, if so, how??

What made this pretty neat was that it was a true story and at the end you get to see the actual mother and son being interviewed. Too bad the narrator/interviewer was amazingly lame and his delivery was amazingly bland. Otherwise a rather exciting show...worth your time.

Not bad for a Telephone Time episode

Warning: Spoilers
I am not a great fan of TELEPHONE TIME TV shows. They are always based from actual events, with the real opponents appearing on screen afterwards. People who tell the audience what they felt during their "adventures". Interesting scheme. But the stories shown just before are often flat and boring; like short classic films, predictable at the most, without any suspense, NOT as we have with Alfred Hitchcock Presents episodes, for instance, with twisted endings. This one is about an escaped murderer who takes a little boy as a hostage. Usual stuff as we already saw a billion times before. Really nothing special. Except it actually happened. And TELEHONE TIME is always the same, in all kind of stories: dramas, historical, westerns, comedies, thrillers...
