What power really is about
owlaurence19 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This is another very good episode with long-term consequences on the storyline, since the Nox will occasionally pop up again. It also starts to develop another more philosophical aspect of the Stargate series (one that will evolve into the whole Ascension theme).

The episode begins with business as usual, with SG1 attempting to get something useful for the SG program to show for once (making the program "productive" enough to justify its cost and risks will be a major issue throughout the series). Then Apophis gets involved, much to everyone's delight. We get to discover another interesting piece of Goa'uld technology, and we meet the Nox, who are a sort of blend between a dryad and an Ewok --if you can picture that. (And as a side note: did Armin Shimerman EVER get to act on a "normal" show?) This is where the plot gets original and meaningful. The Nox look so very simple and vulnerable, that SG1, good guys that they are, take it upon themselves to protect them willy-nilly, rather patronizingly. See, they just *assume* that they know better because to them, power only lies in weapons and technology. This is where the show introduces one of its core tenets: that being civilised means abolishing violence --but that you had better be able to defend yourself when you get to that point.

So the final revelation about the Nox's real abilities is both a very interesting twist and a very important lesson for the Stargate universe, more significant in a way than any weapon or alien thingummy that SG1 might have brought back. I really wish the show hadn't forgotten about the Nox somewhere around season 5, because they're probably the closest thing there is to Ascension in the Milky Way.

A Good Episode with Some Nice Developments
georgesepiclife2 April 2017
Season 1 of Stargate SG-1 has been very solid so far, and "The Nox" continues this solid streak. I can tell that this episode is a very important one in the series, with a lot of development both with the Goa'uld story with Apophis, and also introducing a new race called the Nox which I'm sure will be very important in the story later on, with the nice twist this episode had at the end. There are a few silly moments in this episode, especially with how weak the Goa'uld soldiers seemed to be, but Apophis continues to be a solid villain, and I'm looking forward to him appearing again. There are some nice moments of humour between the Nox and the humans (especially O'Neill as usual), and Teal'c continues to be a badass, although I would like his character to start getting some development soon. Overall, I think the series has been steadily improving since the pilot, and the writers seem to be more confident in their stories, and their characters. I've also noticed that there have been less sudden tonal changes from silly to serious, and the mix between comedy, drama, and action has also improved a lot. Another good edition to the season.

What can I say, it's a great episode.

Warning: Spoilers
The military start pressuring the team to find some useful technology on they're missions and they go to a mysterious planet to capture a birdlike creature that can become invisible. Suddenly they bump into Apophis who's also hunting for the creature, and they're saved by a peaceful race called the Nox. The Nox are a pacifist race living in the forest who refuses to accept any violence and fighting on their planet. And obviously this poses a big problem for the team when Apophis is nearby and seeks revenge.

The true meaning of this episode is hard to describe in a short preview and all I can say is that it is an great episode that you just must see.

I won't spoil any of the details, but the ending of this episode is one of the better the first season has had to offer. And there's also a cameo by actor Armin Shimerman who was during the same period playing Quark at Star Trek Deep Space 9.

Great Episode with Great Music
gw33317 December 2012
The comments above cover most of the info about the episode. I wanted to point out that the great music you hear when the Nox are around is by a band called 2002 on the album Chrysalis. The song is called Spinning The Silk. To me the music makes the episode.

Armin Shimerman is a great actor and I like everything I've seen him in. This role is quite different than Quark.

The Nox are a complex race, and the team doesn't really understand them and their abilities. It is interesting to see how things develop. There are lots of twists and turns in the story, and it keeps you interested. The ending is not what I expected.

The blessed Nox
dridrik21 April 2021
A crazy plot hole is that the Nox are supposed to be highly advanced almost to the point of being "magical". So they take only a few minutes to learn English. This performance is, however, ironically much worse than any other race, because ALL of them in other episodes already speak automatic English... The Nox actors are great, the child and the lady are very beautiful.

Apophis is great as always and the Jaffa are blinded by their faith.

A very nice episode.

Another visit to another culture :)

Another visit to another culture :)

I did not like they decide to captivate the creature that can be invis. How can they take its freedom even for temporary?

Nox are quite lovely and have good ethics. I like them.

Secret of the Nox
Calicodreamin4 January 2022
The Nox were adorable and the first truly otherworldly creatures brought to the series. The tie in with the pilot was unexpected but worked. Effects and costuming felt authentic.

the Jaffa's are back and the Gods
trashgang26 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe the first episode that really is about SG-1. The Stargate has a problem. The government doesn't want to add any more money to the project because so far nothing comes up from another planet that is useful but Teal'c knows a place were they use invisibility as technique. Of they go to that planet to raise back some money from the government but on the planet one of the Gods, Apophis surrounded by Jaffa guards (like Teal'c) also in search of the creature having invisibility. The fight is on between the Jaffa's and Apophis. But the SG-1 team is shot down, in comes the Nox, a people that can talk English by learning it in a minute.

This is a great episode with a bit of special effects, a shoot out and even some blood. Of course things go well after all with a lesson to learn.

The Secret of The Nox
claudio_carvalho23 May 2015
Jack, Daniel, Sam and Teal'c are pressed by a government representative to find technology; otherwise the Stargate program may be shutdown. Teal'c suggests and they go to a planet where they expect to find a creature that possesses the secret of invisibility. However they stumble with Apophis and his guards and Jack, Daniel and Sam are murdered by Apophis. But they are revived by the Nox, an amicable people that has a great secret. When Apophis discovers their secret, the Sg-1 fears their fate. But they have another powerful secret.

"The Nox" is an average episode without conclusion. The objective of the SG-1 assignment is to bring technology back to Earth to avoid the program from being terminated. However they unsuccessfully risk their lives and there is no consequence in the episode. My vote is six.
