Nirrti Returns
claudio_carvalho31 May 2017
When the SGC receives a distress call from the Russian team commanded by Lt. Colonel Sergei Evanov, the iris is opened and the team brings a sick alien called Alebran. He explains that Nirrti is using his people for genetic experience with a DNA machine and out of the blue, he liquefies. The SG-1 and the Russian team return to the planet and they realize that the survivors believe Nirrti is a goddess and worship her. Further, the inhabitants are deformed mutants and one of them have developed telekinetic ability and another one is capable to read minds. The SG-1 and Evanov are captured and Nirrti intends to use them in her experience. What will happen to the Erthlings?

"Metamorphosis" is a good episode of "Stargate SG-1", with the return of the evil Nirrti. The dramatic situation of the SG-1 is well-resolved in the end, and the decision of the inhabitants to destroy the machine is wise. My vote is eight.

Good, but not great, episode, with a couple of interesting points

Warning: Spoilers
I feel like this episode was trying to say something about prejudice, but didn't really know how to tackle it (at least not head on).

O'Neill is initially shown to have a dislike of the Russian involvment in the SGC (if you have watched all of the preceding episodes, you will have seen that before). This isn't entirely born out by events this time though. Yes, the Russian's had defied standard procedure by bringing an alien back through the stargate, but their reasons seemed justified, and their commander came across as very competent. Later, there is a good scene where O'Neill orders the Russian commander to act as backup for SG-1, and, understandably, the Russian commander looks disappointed. It is clear that he thinks his team could have, and should have, been asked to do more.

We then meet a group of aliens (by that, I mean humans from another planet) that have been modified by Nirrti to look terrible and disfigured. The team, naturally, think they are merely Nirrti's victims and she has simply been conducting experiments on them. But, of course, the big mistake was to judge the people on how they looked.

Thankfully, this is science-fiction, and, eventually, both O'Neill and his team, and the aliens, figure out that the real enemy is Nirrti. Once that happens, we finally see good defeat evil, which is, of course, what we all came to see!

Decent storyline that brought back and old nemesis but this time took the fight off word. The new characters were interesting and creature work felt authentic.

Reason for me trashing this episode.

Nirrti's comment about Jonas being so genetically different than humans from earth is bull, such a difference in genetic traits would take at least 500,000, certainly far longer than a mere 3,000, did the screen writers research the topic on any scale?, highly improbable.
