Good episode, but on a BAD, FAULTY PREMISE
slackersmom7 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
After everything that SG1 and the SGC in general have been through to this point, you'd think they would have learned an important lesson: DON'T BRING ALIEN THINGS/TECHNOLOGY BACK TO EARTH. First mistake was Gen. Hammond giving the OK to bring the young woman back to the SGC, even though there were already way too many questions about her, more than enough to arouse suspicion and doubt. Second mistake was not removing her the minute they found out she was a machine. Even before supplying a fresh power source, they should have gotten rid of her.

THe SGC should have an off-base--or even better, off-world-- research lab for exactly this sort of situation. Even the Alpha Site would do. At least that way, if Reese-- or whatever the threat is-- should become uncontrollable, Earth and the SGC would still be secure.

I really find it hard to believe that O'Neill, Hammond, the SGC, etc., haven't learned this lesson by now and keep making this same mistake over and over. It may make for dramatic TV (which of course we all love), but it is NOT in the least bit logical.

Great and Original Episode
claudio_carvalho7 February 2017
While exploring a planet where the civilization was destroyed, the SG-1 finds an idle android and they decide to bring her to the SGC. Sam finds a compartment with a discharged battery and she charges the battery to reactivate the android. They learn that her name is Reese and soon they find she has the capability to build replicators. Further, her immature behavior is similar to a spoiled child. The SG-1 discovers why her civilization was destroyed.

"Menace" is a great episode of "Stargate SG-1". The idea of an immature and powerful artificial intelligence is absolutely original. Daniel's attitude is silly and absurd considering the self-destruction status of the entire base and the danger of the android. My vote is eight.

Title (Brazil): "Menace"

Fun (if you don't take it too seriously)

Warning: Spoilers
This is a good episode because it advances our understanding of the SG universe. Menace provides some of the back story to one of the major new enemies that will cause the SGC many more problems in the future.

Unfortunately, I couldn't help comparing this episode with the one about Hathor (from season 1). It's almost exactly the same idea, but instead of the Goa'uld, it's the replicators this time. I think Daniel might have been able to save the day, if he had been better at winning over Reese. Hathor, by comparison, had no problem getting very friendly with Daniel in season 1!

Maybe look for weird stuff the first time around?
Calicodreamin6 March 2022
SG1 in their typical fashion runs head first into something that seemingly could have been avoided. Had they looked for clues the first time - just maybe - this all could have been avoided. Unique storyline and good effects at least.

Plot Driven by Stupid Actions

Warning: Spoilers
What a terrible, terrible episode that could have been so good. From the outset, the team makes one dumb decision after another wbich only serves to drive the plot. These are intelligent, fantastic characters acting out of character. Bringing a unknown robot home when you've had technology wreak havok in the past? Not sending it back home and interviewing it there once you discover replicator building blocks on her home planet.

For all the guff they get from politicians, throughout the series, wanting to shut the stargate program down, this would be exhibit A that it should.

This show can and did do much better, before and after this episode. But, god what a cluncker.

Formulaic

Warning: Spoilers
Whomever wrote this was an original episode is woefully incorrect.

The replicators are nothing more than lazy writing. They're a horrible premise. Convenient that Earth weapons are the only thing that destroys them. Dumb that the SH teams can shoot everything around them, but not one round seems to damage a wall, ceiling, or floor.

As for this episode, why bring back an alien we all know will try to kill them. The only survivor of a dead world? Yeah, brilliant idea. Why keep it in your base when everything points to danger? Like I said, lazy writing.

Annoying girl-robot
dridrik19 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The young woman is annoying. Jackson with his empathy is bound to get frustrated: the robot's lego-minions were bound to destroy everything while Jackson wasn't really getting anywhere with is pleas to the childish-robot deaf ears. The so-praised twist didn't branch into something useful for continuity. This episode was boring and chaotic...

Keep an eye on her maybe?
Chandelier-4957920 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Like some of the other reviews mentioned already there is some lazy writing in this episode. The thing that bothered me the most is the fact she can create dozens or hundreds of replicators while being monitered by several security camera's. She has no material or time to make so many without anyone noticing. 1 perhaps, but not the many we see in the episode.
