World-shaking finale
owlaurence9 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Uh. Wow. I certainly didn't see that one coming.

Season 6 has not been my favorite by far, and I was a bit worried about a one-episode finale, since buildup is essential to good drama. Actually, Full Circle really constitutes a landmark episode for many plot lines, both those it definitely ties up and those it sets up: Abydos. Anubis and the Ancients. The Lost City. Daniel's Ascension. The intro is a bit over-dramatic but so nostalgic that I don't really mind. I also loved the scenes at SGC, both the O'Neill / Daniel reunion (they make such great foils for each other!) and everybody's matter-of-fact attitude about it.

So they return to Abydos (hence the ep's title). Most of what follows is a bit unequal as half the team goes on a slow but meaningful treasure-hunt, while the rest faces an action-packed but rather useless fight. By the time everybody is reunited (and cornered) Daniel has made a few major discoveries about himself, the Ancients and, most importantly, Anubis himself. Indeed, despite his not belonging to SG-1 anymore, the whole episode revolves around Daniel and his growing frustration at not being able to help. First of all, this means that once again several characters barely have anything to do in the episode (if Jonas wasn't in the opening credits, you'd think HE was the guest). This also means that we spend most of the episode waiting for Daniel to finally DO something, assuming that it will trigger the usual last-minute twist that will solve everything and let Anubis join Apophis in Goa'uld hell.

Sorry, pals. Not gonna happen. I must say the series really took a bold step in not going where we expected and having SG-1, and Daniel above all, completely FAIL. They went to Abydos on Daniel's advice in order to salvage the Eye of Ra, save the world and deal Anubis a harsh blow. They barely make it out, sans Eye nor Daniel, while Anubis purely *destroys* Abydos, a world they fought so hard to save. (I know, the ending scene is supposed to make us feel better about it, but somehow it doesn't quite succeed.) Some finale. Some Full Circle.

So what this finale really does is not so much conclude an arc, as begin a new one on a really dire note. The only positive element in there (if you can call it so) is that Daniel also completes his own circle and will soon be back where he began.

And just to lighten the mood: who didn't snicker at Anubis declaring "So be it" in that sinister tone? I do hope the scriptwriters did it on purpose, after realising that having a hooded villain sit on a throne-like chair in a spaceship and start blasting worlds while a slightly mystical man in desert robes attempts to stop him, MIGHT just ring a bell or two.

No More Abydos

Warning: Spoilers
This episode marks the end of Corky Nemec's probationary period. Personally, I was happy with the character: he was a good replacement for Daniel Jackson.

I was even hoping he would remain in the cast but that was a thing not so to be.

In this episode Daniel Jackson appears as an ancient or as an ascended being one last time. And you can feel his frustration at having his hands tied, as an ascended being he is not allowed to interfere with the interactions of flesh and blood beings.

But even though helping SG-1 would be breaking the rules of ascended beings, he decides to do it anyway. but if Daniel Jackson is cheating, he is not the only one doing it.

The Stargate universe is at a crossroads in this episode, one story is ending and a new story is being prepared. From this point on, we start hearing more and more about a lost city of the ancients. Even though we did not know a new franchise was being prepared, it is still an interesting thing to keep hearing a recurring theme which is the promise of a new story arc to add to the many Arcs that we have in this show.

As a season finale, it is almost a letdown. It is not a two-parter and the story is not really resolved. But that does not make it any less a great and pivotal episode. This episode was SG-1's "Luke, I am your father" moment, it is the exact same type of suspense represented in "the Empire strikes back", and for that reason this episode becomes great.

Basically, all of the original threads from the feature film are tied off in this season, including the Skaara and Sha'Re stories, as well as Teal'c's dependence on a Goa'Uld Symbiont. Anubis as depicted in this episode is a new kind of bad guy and he is not so easy to kill as a regular snake head, and even though his agenda seems to be similar to the other snake head system lords, his real purpose cannot be guessed.

And to commemorate this new evil guy, one of original symbols of the series is removed in this episode with a great explosion.

Fantastic banter

While the story needed some little pickups and flushing out this is a good episode. Whoever wrote the dialogue for this episode in particular got the banter and commentary between O'Neill and any others he interacts with spot on. The season that follows gets only better.

Finale of the sixth season that could have been the series finale
CCsito14 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
As for the story that began with the Stargate motion picture with Kurt Russell and James Spader, this episode in some ways concluded all that transpired from the movie to the sixth season. All four of the major characters died in previous episodes (Daniel Jackson by radiation poisoning, Jack O'Neill by torture and being revived in the sarcophagus, Teal'c by staff weapon fire and being revived in the sarcophagus,, and Samantha Carter by the alien intruder taking over her body through electrical contact), so all members of SG-1 all experienced "the next level" stage. The original location of their encounter with Ra gets completely destroyed. There are some still unresolved issues like Anubis and Daniel Jackson's continued search for enlightenment and the other system lords and the Replicators. But by the end of this episode, I felt that much of the progression from the movie up to this stage had completed the story line of the four major characters.

Not sure about the ending, but otherwise great!

Warning: Spoilers
This is a great action packed episode that brings season 6 to an end. The only negative is that it's a little bit rushed. The episode starts with Daniel telling Jack that, unless SG-1 get there first, Anubis will get the Eye of Ra from Abydos and become all-powerful (or something like that). So, of course, SG-1 go to Abydos and arrive in the nick of time. You would have thought that Daniel could have given them far more warning, but he didn't.

It feels like this epsiode borrows a lot from Star Wars and fanatasy too. There was a scene in which Anubis is told that his time is up. I was then half-expecting him to reply "Now witness the power of this fully operational battle station", but, alas, he didn't. Reminding me of Return of the Jedi is no bad thing though.

Later, we learn that Anubis is basically a Goa'uld lich. You might have guessed that from his appearance in earlier episodes, but you might also have thought he was a bit like Darth Vader or something. In any case, I still don't think he is very scary and I still much prefer Baal (and Osiris too). At least SG-1 haven't got rid of them yet!!

The ending didn't make that much sense to me. Nothing is really resolved, and I think that the only thing we really learned is that the battle with Anubis will continue next season. On the other hand, introducing the idea that there is a lost city (Atlantis, presumably) opens up the possibility for more adventures involving the Ancients.

Despite the flaws, this was still a very good end to an action packed season. 9/10 from me.

Going into a weird area

This episode veers hard into the supernatural which is okay but maybe on the whole maybe a bit off vibe. Acting is decent and the storyline interesting.

The Eye of Ra
claudio_carvalho17 June 2017
Skaara and the population of Abydos organize to defend the Eye of Ra from Anubis and Daniel Jackson appears and tells that they will be helped. Then he meets Jack O'Neill in the elevator and asks the SG-1 to help the inhabitants of Abydos to find and protect the artifact from Anubis; otherwise his power will be increased ten fold since he has the other eyes. Jonas and Sam find the relic but Anubis promises to destroy Abydos if O'Neill does not deliver the Eye of Ra to him. Meanwhile Anubis is surrounded by the mother ships of the other Goa'uld lords. What will happen next?

"Full Circle" is a full of action episode of "Stargate" that does not work. General Hammond sends the SG-1 only to help the inhabitants of Abydos to fight the powerful Anubis. Daniel Jackson convinces people from Abydos and Jack to fight Anubis but makes arrangements with the evil Goa'uld to deliver the Eye of Ra. This ascension thing is annoying and the wannabe Darth Vader Anubis fighting Daniel Jackson is silly. My vote is six.
