Corny Episode
claudio_carvalho14 July 2015
The SG-1 is surprised by the visit of Master Bra'tac and tells that Apophis has survived from the explosion of his spacecraft and has abducted Teal'c's son Rya'c to punish his father. Now Apophis is in Chulac and Jack, Daniel and Sam join Teal'c and Bra'tac to rescue Rya'c from Apophis. On the arrival, Teal'c learns that his wife Drey'auc has married his friend Fro'tak and he becomes upset, but he promises to rescue their son and disappear from her life. They go to the palace of Apophis, but Rya'c refuses to go with his father and calls him a traitor. Later Fro'tak witnesses Teal'c and Drey'auc kissing each other and he sneaks to the palace of Apophis. However Jack follows him and prevents the betrayal. Later Teal'c succeeds to rescue Rya'c and the group returns to the SGC. Jack is suspicious of Rya'c and out of the blue, Drey'auc discloses something strange to Teal'c about their son. What has happened to Rya'c?

"Family" is a corny episode of "Stargate SG-1", with a melodramatic story. The behavior of the family man Teal'c seems to be incompatible with his characters, since he has left his family outcast in Chulac to stay with the SG-1. My vote is seven.

Warning: Spoilers
The stargate gives a warning, an unknown visitor is approaching. Enter Bra'tac. He's already a friend of SG-1 and he has bad news for Teal'c. Apophis escaped and survived the explosion of his mothership (remember episode one of season two). Apophis managed to get Teal'c his son, Rya'c in his power. Bra'tac needs SG-1 to help him to restore order on his planet. Of they go but soon Teal'c come across his wife who is now married to another one. But Teal'c has to save his son.

I found this a mediocre entry for season 2. Somehow the story itself was a it weak. There's not that much going on and you can see it coming that Rya'c is going to be saved and Teal'c his wife Drey'auc is falling in love again with Teal'c. The way the got lost of her new husband is a bit ridiculous and she never had one tear when things go wrong with him. A bit weak also on the effects. Happy endings are typical for SG-1 but it's a bit too soft here. Not my thing.

A decent episode, astronomically hurt by a bad ending.

Warning: Spoilers
The beginning plot was a decent start to this episode. A simple rescue mission to save Rya'c, Teal'c's son, from Apophis. To me the most interesting item was that Rya'c has been brainwashed by Apophis, which resulted in him running from the SG-1 good guys to Apophis' guards for protection. This feeling of betrayal that Rya'c had was later continued as a simple plot set up by Apophis to release a deadly bioweapon into earth through Rya'c. Rather than facing the brainwashing head on and exploring how that changes Teal'c, the writers come up with the horrendous solution of ECT to 'cure' Rya'c of brainwashing. ECT does not work like that. Not even sort of. The episode missed its chance of creating a provocative change in Teal'c to instead just have a sappy happy ending.

The side thing with Teal'c's wife is kinda meh, though it could also help change Teal'c as a character.

This episode takes us back to the much dreaded Chulak and chaos ensues as expected. The storyline was interesting but the resolution clumsy and forced. Decent acting.

One of The Worst

Warning: Spoilers
Guest star Brooke Susan Parker was cast in director Kathyrn Bigelow's excellent thriller "Strange Days" (1995), a terrific film (co-written by James Cameron). Here, Ms. Parker plays Teal'c's former wife. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about this show. Invariably, when people show affection for one another on Stargate SG1, it appears to be heavily frowned upon. I have no idea why the writers are so uncomfortable. I wish they would show more of the "French" side of "French-Canadian". Regardless, this is a predictable, simplistic, thoughtless and one of the worst episodes of the entire 10 seasons. That's pretty bad. Since I'm a fan, I will round up my rating to 4/10. If I wasnt, it would get 2 stars at most.
