Introducing Rodney McKay
mkvonbergen30 October 2012
Personally, McKay is my favourite character on Atlantis, so I watched his first appearance as a character with interest.

Mostly, there are a lot of differences between his Atlantis character and the one that shows up in this episode. In Atlantis, he's taken on Carter's role: the scientist responsible for making things happen when guns won't do it. Also, Atlantis pokes around in his personal life: His various illnesses and his sister (whenever McKay's sister shows up, Atlantis has a good episode) show that he has a human side and a heart, despite his obnoxious exterior.

While McKay of SG1 is obnoxious , not much else about him in this episode (at least, that's important) is similar to McKay Atlantis. McKay SG1 is a naysayer who can't be bothered to make anything happen, an chauvinist, and even a little bit stupid scientifically (but that's compared to Carter, of course). The seeds of the later character are there, of course: He IS funny at times, he likes to eat (especially in stressful situations) and is afraid of lemons.

For me, the episode was mostly interesting as a McKay character study. (I'm fascinated by watching characters change.) However, all of the usual SG-1 characters play their roles well, and I enjoyed seeing more of Maybourne in his unofficial "rogue agent" role (much more likable than his official role). While there's not a great deal of character development, the episode advances the plot nicely and is a fun way to spend an evening.

Trapped in the Stargate
claudio_carvalho29 December 2016
While returning from a planet under attack of Goa'uld, Jack, Sam and Daniel arrive at the SGC safe and sound. However, Teal'c stops his running to shoot Tanith and the Stargate is destroyed by the debris of Tanith's spaceship when he jumps. Teal'c is trapped in the Stargate and never arrives at the SGC. Sam believes his signature is in the Stargate and try to find a means to retrieve him. General Hammond shuts down the Stargate while Daniel and Major Paul Davis travel to Russia to deal the use of the Russian Stargate to bring the American teams that are in outer space back. Colonel Simmons arrive at the SGC with the arrogant Dr. Rodney McKay and tells that General Hammond has only 48 hours to bring Teal'c back; further, Simmons blackmails Hammond. Meanwhile Jack teams up with Maybourne to investigate what Colonel Simmons knows and how he got the information.

"48 Hours" is a highly entertaining episode of "Stargate". The storyline has three segments all of them engaging and well-resolved. Sam trying to find a means to bring Teal'c back. Daniel negotiating with the Russian military. Jack finding the truth about the despicable Colonel Simmons. My vote is eight.

Why is Simmons still alive?

If I was General Hammond, I'd have disappeared his ass long ago. Without including the rest of the SGC...

Trapped as an energy beam

A TNG idea, but I liked it nevertheless. We had a new character join, some good (and annoyed) Russians, and some good arguments. After all, why isn't the US sharing everything about Stargate with other nations?

Anyway, this was a decent episode, and in the end, Teal'c did some majestic which I only rememberes towards the end of the episode. It was really awesome. I love that weapon.

8 from me, even though they copied the idea from TNG, but you can clearly see they are fans. And they just want to add a bit more fun to it. Nice.

Doctor doom

Decent episode involving many key characters and long story arc items in the planet earth stargate system. The new doctor was super annoying and rude. Decent acting and storyline, anticlimactic end to a sort of big character.
