Great episode
seniorita12323 December 2007
In 'Procrastination' Spongebob has to do an assignment for his boating class but procrastinates as his mind is blank. In 'I'm with Stupid' Patrick is anxious about a visit from his parents and wishes they didn't think he was so stupid. Spongebob offers to make the visit go well by acting so stupid that his parents will think Patrick is smarter.

My favorite of the two is I'm with Stupid as i've seen it an uncountable number of times and it never gets dull. The same lines that i thought were hilarious the first time i saw are still hilarious to me now. As in many of the Spongebob episodes through season 3, there are hilarious one-liners and good natured humor aimed not only at kids but adults as well. Procrastination is not a personal favorite of mine but that doesn't mean it was bad(definitely not!). It was a funny look at Spongebob's personality and it showed how Spongebob had more depth than the average children's show. Plus it was definitely well thought out(not something i can say about the latest crop of lazy writers for Nickelodeon shows).

A great episode.

Procrastination: Spongebob's most relatable episode
thefoochie3 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ironically, I am reviewing an episode about the dangers of procrastination while procrastinating, but that's besides the point haha. As you can already tell, I struggle with extreme procrastination, and this episode is 100% accurate on how it works, from before doing the assignment, during, and after, which I will separate my paragraphs into. It's truly an achievement in television, with impressive visual gags and brilliant writing.

Before: The things that Spongebob does before writing the essay are so relatable, every single detail. Spongebob starts off with extreme confidence that he's about to write a great essay; he's completely unaware that he's about to procrastinate. Then, suddenly, hours have gone by. And that's the horror of it. You aren't even aware that your brain is trying to procrastinate until it's too late. Spongebob looking out the window and seeing everyone having fun and feeling bummed out that he can't join them is the exact same feeling I get when I realize that my day will be wasted completing work. The part where Spongebob does a bunch of meaningless distractions is especially relatable. I will legitimately do my other homework just to avoid doing the most important assignment. Also, I have a cat, so the part where Spongebob desperately tries to get Gary's attention hit close to home.

During: Arguably the most hilarious scene is when Spongebob spends all that effort just to write the word "The", and then he's ready for a break. I do the same thing where I write like one sentence and then take an hour long "break" lol. Then we get to my favorite part of the episode, which is Spongebob's hallucinations. Not only is it extremely relatable, but it is extremely impressive visually. The animation department killed it in this episode. I love how everything in Spongebob's house starts screaming at him to do the essay because it's a very accurate metaphor for what happens for me. Anytime I try to do literally anything, I get this constant reminder that I'm supposed to be doing my assignment to the point where I can't do other things without feeling a twinge of guilt/shame.

After: Due to my strong ability to write a lot in a time crunch, I was able to relate to when Spongebob writes his whole essay when there are 5 minutes left. Unfortunately, all that time wasted was for nothing when Ms. Puff cancelled the assignment! This has happened to me so many times that it isn't even funny. I truly felt Spongebob's pain in that moment. Overall, almost everything about this episode is perfect, relatable, and accurate. It's pure genius. 9/10.

One of the more underrated classics

Warning: Spoilers
Procastination: Mrs. Puff gives her student an assignment: things not to do at a stoplight. SpongeBob thinks it will be a piece of cake, but keeps putting off the essay and struggles to think of anything.

This show is great at coming up with simple, yet very much relatable themes, in this case procastination. I can relate to SpongeBob 100% here, as I have struggled the same way through high school where it feels like I will never get anything done. Him failing to admit to himself how badly he's avoiding the essay results in many laughs, such as when he purposefully fills Gary's bowl with too much food, but he eats it up right away. The short cameo by Patrick is also funny. But the best part is when SpongeBob has a nightmare, where several items are chastizing him for not writing on his essay. Eventually he does come up with something, inspired by all the crazy events of the previous day... only for the assignment to be completely cancelled. SpongeBob's reaction to his effort being all in vain is priceless.

I'm With Stupid: Patrick uncharacteristically starts cleaning up his whole place, in fear of his parents visiting to make fun of him. SpongeBob gets the idea of acting even dumber than his friend, so Patrick can feel smart. And it certainly works, but it does so *way* too well...

Just like Procastination this segment is funny throughout. Patrick's parents were meanspirited, but very funny characters. I love how they treat Patrick completely like a child, like how he doesn't know how to perform the most basic tasks. It gets even funnier when SpongeBob starts acting stupid, and Patrick joins in as well. He gets so into it he forgets SpongeBob in reality is much brighter. His insults cracked me up, especially when SpongeBob shows a picture of his brain, only for Patrick to insist it's "actual size". Of course, the cream on the top is when Patrick's parents realize they're not even his parents and don't have a son at all. It shows how Patrick didn't have to pretend that he's dumb when they are on the same level themselves.

In memory of Stephen Hillenburg: You were an absolute genius.

The scales of balance...

Warning: Spoilers
Procrastination - This episode is stupidly relatable in many ways. When does you inspiration for your assignment come? Right before it's due! What keeps you from completing it? Everything. How much progress feels like enough in a small period of time? Literally just the very beginning! And don't you just love it when you nearly have a panic attack trying to complete it, only to discover that it's been canceled? It's not just relatable. It's hilarious, it's quotable, it's well animated for S2 - It's an underrated classic, to be sure. Don't sleep on this one! (10/10)

I'm with Stupid - *Clap* I've been waiting to tear into this one... What is the ABSOLUTE WORST episode of post-movie Era? Many would answer with this one. And, oh boy, do I agree. When Patrick starts panicking that his parents are coming over, SpongeBob offers to make him look smart. Patrick suddenly becomes full of himself and starts thinking SpongeBob is actually dumb. What follows is SpongeBob being berated for roughly 8 minutes. Not only is it uncharacteristic of Patrick to punch SpongeBob around like this, even in later seasons, it is absolutely INFURIATING to watch someone's good deed blow up in his face like this. And the gag with his parents not being his actual parents? ...Wha... Why...? What kind of AWFUL people manipulate someone's stupidity into making them think they're blood-related?! It is, without a doubt, my least favorite episode of seasons 1 - 3, and one of my least favorites of the entire show. DO NOT watch this. (1/10)

Overall - I love Procrastination. It's been one of my favorites ever since I first saw it over a decade ago. But I can't fully recommend this as a duo because of how much I can't stand I'm with Stupid. I've hated it even since I was small, and believe me I liked a Pal for Gary (another horrible episode) when I was that age! It's best to catch Procrastination when it's aired separately from it's twin.

Score: 10 + 1 = 11/20 -> 5.5/10.

My Least Favorite Episode of the "Pre-Movie Era"
StephenBurg21 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I'm With Stupid is an episode of SpongeBob SqaurePants. In this one, Patrick is in a state of panic when he discovers that his parents are visiting him and he thinks that they believe that he's a complete moron. SpongeBob reluctantly pretends to be an idiot so Patrick's "parents" (if you watch this one, you'll know why I put it in quotations)-who bear a resemblance to Homer and Marge Simpson-would respect Patrick more. However, the masquerade works all too well when Patrick starts to believe SpongeBob is really that stupid, causing him to prove he's smart. The story in this episode was a decent idea, but I thought it was poorly executed. Several elements of the episode are just a mess and, throughout the whole thing, Patrick just acts a total (donkey)to SpongeBob. 4.5/10 Procrastination-In this episode, SpongeBob, much to his joy, is given a ridicoulously long essay to write before he goes to school the next day about what not to do at a stoplight. However, SpongeBob often gets distracted while writing his essay from eraser shavings to his chair. It's up to a surreal and creepy dream to teach SpongeBob a lesson about doing work. This episode is set up better than I'm With Stupid and has funnier jokes. 6.5/10
