The Executive
Samuel-Shovel31 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
What I enjoy about this episode was how all the story lines weaved in and out of each other. It was really quite well done, with some great laughs and quotes to boot!

The double-length episode is also a nice touch, really allowing the plots to develop to an almost ridiculous point as the two sets of parents meet on the cruise vacation.

This isn't one of Seinfeld's best episodes but does have the Executive raincoats which are a classic piece of cultural significance for Seinfeld.

At last, the Seinfeld family vs the Costanza family!
SLionsCricketreviews4 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
After a season of slightly disappointing episodes in the second half of the season, including the acclaimed "The Marine Biologist", I found "The Raincoats" to be a return to Seinfeld form. Packed with laughs, a highly entertaining plot and perfect characterization, "The Raincoats" is one of my favourites of the season.

Judge Reinhold is utterly fantastic as Elaine's latest in a line of not to last boyfriends. What is so genius about this character is the very simple idea by Larry and Jerry that Aaron is a close talker. In "The Puffyshirt", Kramer's girlfriend was a quiet talker and that idea worked out superbly. Here, Reinhold summons a hell of an entertaining performance and provides more classic "Seinfeld" humour.

Estelle Harris and Jerry Stiller are brilliant as Estelle and Frank Constanza, whilst Barney Martin and Liz Sheridan are equally delightful as Morty and Helen Seinfeld. The first, of what I hope are a few appearances of the characters in the same episode, "The Raincoats" works most effectively due to the various plots that wonderfully mesh together. It was perfect seeing the Seinfelds avoiding the Constanza's dinner invitation. Each character perfectly shines, whether its George or Elaine, Jerry or Kramer. The supporting characters work perfectly, and Newman's appearance is once again, rewarding to say the least.

Hysterical throughout its runtime, "The Raincoats" is an excellent "Seinfeld" episode and one of my personal favourites from the fifth season so far.

Season 5, Episode 18, "The Raincoats"

All too often neglected when listing the best Seinfeld episodes, the double episode "The Raincoats" is one of my favorites, it's one of the show's most intricate and ambitious episodes, and it's probably my favorite one from the excellent season 5.

The four separate story lines have rarely interacted with each other as well as they did on "The Raincoats". Jerry's parents are the main catalysts among which everything else happens, and they're hilarious, proving just how great a pair of actors they are. It's their interactions with each of the four main cast members that makes the episode go round, as well as with Close-Talker Aaron, one of Elaine's most memorable boyfriends-of-the-week, played hilariously by Judge Reinhold. The Costanzas also drop by for some memorable scenes, as does Newman in one of his finest moments. Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer are all hilarious, but for once it's the writing and the episode's construction that truly shine, and make it a true landmark episode.

The Sum of Its Parts
Hitchcoc15 October 2022
This episode has a set of events, each funny, without much of a plot. First of all, Jerry is horny but his parents are staying with him. So eventually they go to see "Schindler's List" and make out through the whole movie. Unfortunately, Newman sees them and reputations go out the window. Jerry's father comes to realize that some old coats he developed may be worth some money. George brings his father's clothes to a discount store and the guy burns them because they are beset by moths. Now there is a bit where George lies about going to Paris to get out of being a Big Brother to an obnoxious kid. Several funny scenes, especially at the discount store.

Rudy's
rodinnyc7 March 2022
Unlike Seinfeld who as part of the comedy act says he would never wear used clothing because he's a germophobe, I wore thrift clothes for a good part of my life....including from "Rudy's."

Only Jewish writers would write an episode of making out during Schindler's List. Instead of going to a nice hotel since Jerry can afford a Cadillac for his father, to have intimacy with his one Jewish girlfriend during the run of the show....

Not my kind of joke....but okay, I tolerate it, otherwise I"m with Helen and Morty's outrage.

And the girl's father.

Never really accepted the Irish American actor playing Morty as a Jewish father, but he can be funny.

There have been numerous shows about Irish American families. Any of them cast Jews as Irishmen? The late Theodore Bikel? Jackie Mason?

I"m with Sarah Silverman. On this.

Yeah, I love this episode. The whole business of selling Frank's cabana wear at Rudy's.

George does Paris
safenoe13 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
In this episode George finds himself in Paris with a wayward kid, and he ain't having a wonderful time for sure. This must be one of the few Seinfeld episodes where one of the characters is overseas (there was one where they travelled to India, that was the reverse episode one). Also we have a famous movie by Steven Spielberg (the black and white one) that became a topic of hilarity in this episode and putting Jerry and his girlfriend Rachel Goldstein (Melanie Smith) in hot water thanks to the observant Newman in the cinema.

I'm enjoying re-watching most of the Seinfeld episodes after having first watched them when they debuted back in the 90s.

First time I dont it 100%

Warning: Spoilers
I have been re-watching this on Netflix. I really enjoyed how the characters were building up to this but here is my problem: I feel like some of the comedy with Kramee and the parents didnt really work that well on this one. Would really just somebody walk out of a Paris trip just to sell some raincoats in New York? And then we never get an explanation about Elaines boyfriend being so weird with the Seinfeilds. Don't get me wrong I love this sitcom. I think it's a good example of brilliant script writing and how it composes all the litle sub plots and jokes together at the end. I just feel like this is the point where it started to repeat itself. I don't remember much of what happens next but I hope it gets better.

Newmans character... so funny on this one.

Annoying
SamPamBam8 July 2020
Every single character in this epsiode is extemely annoying. But then, thats what this show has always been about-how annoying can a person be and just how much can the audience take of it...Kramer is not, is never, funny....the doof is an embarrasement to human beings...the late jerry stiller makes one cringe, and jerry's parents make one choose to be chased thru a pit of crocodiles by three pit bulls rather than listen to their obnoxious prattle....
