Midnight Cowboy ❤
jerome99810 July 2021
Midnight Cowboy being one of my favorite movies, this was an above average enjoyable episode for me. I loved all the references.

And on top of that Bryan Cranston as guest star, even though he was probably not very famous at that time yet. Nice to see him in his younger years nevertheless.

Jerry the Cowboy
Samuel-Shovel3 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
George thinks he's bought a used car that was once owned by Jo(h)n Voight. Elaine must help Mr. Pitt win a contest to hold a float in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Kramer attempts to help a local shoe repair store stay in business but ends up doing more harm than good. All of this culminates with Kramer getting bit, George pitching a failed "Jon Voight Day" for the Yankees, and a party held by a local dentist that Jerry sneaks into.

As always, Seinfeld seamlessly weaves in plot elements back and forth from different plot lines, all combining in the end to make a hilarious conclusion. Lots of these later Seinfeld seasons have plot development that are based on characters bumping into each other on the streets of New York (hard to believe I know). I always thought this was a bit odd but it never detracts from the enjoyment I get out of these episodes.

What a Car?
Hitchcoc15 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
George gets a used car. The salesman tells him it was once owned by Jon Voight. He dumped the nice car he had researched and bought this one. We all know it isn't going to work out. But George is insufferable about the car. To prove the truth of the former owner, he goes on a campaign to prove it. Jon Voight actually shows up and bits George's arm in self defense from his overly aggressive posture. The other hilarious thing has to do with Elaine winning a contest so her boss can hold a rope in the Macy's parade. It is a balloon of Woody Woodpecker (which is funny enough), but things transpire to ruin the moment for the old guy. Kramer has another affliction. He has nosebleeds. This leads to a mess-up when a mom and pop shoe repair shop may go out of business from lack of clientele. Kramer brings all of Jerry's sneakers to be cleaned and when Jerry goes to pick them up, Mom and Pop have left. One of the highlights for me was a reprise of the final scene from Midnight Cowboy as Jerry and Kramer become Joe Buck and Ratzo Rizzo. Great bit.

"Oh look, there's Gregory Peck's bicycle! And Barbara Mandrell's skateboard!"

Season 6, Episode 8, "The Mom and Pop Store"

"The Mom and Pot Store" is an excellent episode, one of season 6's best. All four cast members are at their best - Elaine is especially terrific in her scenes with Mr. Pitt (Ian Abercrombie), and George is hilarious throughout.

Two things make the episode especially noteworthy. One is the cameo by Jon Voight; Voight was one of the biggest stars to ever make an appearance on Seinfeld, and his brief, wordless cameo on this episode is incredibly surprising and weird - consider how overdrawn all the celebrity cameos were on Friends, and how much guts it took to get Voight for this very short part. The other one is the first appearance of a bearded and barely recognizable Bryan Cranston (of Breaking Bad and Malcolm in the Middle fame) as jerkass dentist Tim Whatly, who'll prove himself several times later as one of the series' best recurring supporting actors.

Jon Voight day.
Sirus_the_Virus30 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The Plot: George decides to buy a car once he learns it was owned by Jon Voight. Mr. Pitt wants to hold the Woody Woodpecker balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade. Jerry is a little surprised when Tim Whatly invites all of his friends to the party and not Jerry. George feels like an idiot when Jerry finds out the car wasn't owned by Jon Voight, but by John Voight. Kramer tells and old couple who run a Mom and Pop store to fix the ceiling. Kramer also gives them all of Jerry's shoes except for cowboy boots. George also finds a bitten pencil in his car and tries to find out if it's Jon Voight's bite marks. But then Kramer himself sees Jon Voight and is bitten by him.

The Mom and Pop store is a really funny episode that has many memorable moments. Like how Kramer is bitten by Jon Voight and when George kicks Jerry out of the car and he is almost mugged in the cowboy boots. There are many things that go on in this episode. THey also spoof Midnight cowboy in the end of the episode. The Mom and Pop store is a great episode.

Great episode, not what you're supposed to do for a nosebleed
sktraut18 October 2021
The shop owners told Kramer to lie down but this would allow the blood to drain down his throat into his belly. You know Atilla the Hun died from falling asleep with a nosebleed. Or it maybe it was syphilis. No that's Al Capone.

George is a reflection of people in general
ThunderKing626 March 2023
They don't think. They do dumb.

But anyways...

This review right here was written or typed on March 26th in year 2023rd in the century of the 21st.

What was this episode about: George buys a car because it was "owned" by Jon Voight.

Kramer tries to save a Mommy and Father store from going out of business.

Elaine listens to music.

Malcolm in the Middles father debuts on Seinfeld.

The Story and The Production Overview: A nice episode where good deeds are actually evil. George and the car was the funniest bit. I didn't care for much about Elaine story it was rusty. Iunno why they have sketchy extras? It's horrible to look at. Is New York really filled with sketchies?

Overall, A good episode.

Highlight: Jerry mocking George in the car. "I don't want to be a cowboy"

Villain: Mom and Pop sort of for being rude to Kramer though he was only trying to help. The electrician for sounding like a jerk for no reason.

What can be learned?: Don't be a fool like George

Verdict: A good episode.

George and the car
safenoe21 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
George gets incredibly excited when he is told that a famous actor (the grandfather of Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt) used to own the car, and in fact the famous actor makes a cameo appearance and bites Kramer's arm. I loved Jerry's protesting the wearing of cowboy boots, "I don't wanna be a cowboy!". Whilst Jerry himself will never win an acting award still he's authentic.

Elaine does Mr Pitt a favor by winning a Macy's Day Thanksgiving Day parade spot for him by guessing a song. Woody Woodpecker gets pecked in a bad way which causes distress to Mr Pitt at the Parade and the ending was quite serious like Midnight Cowboy.

Is this where the series starts to drift?
treacypatrick111 March 2022
After the brilliance of seasons 4 and 5, I just get the feeling in recent episodes that things are starting to drift. It's the little things - the cowboy boots, Kramer becoming more and more formulaic, that weird Jerry laugh in the car... I can't put my finger on it, but it feels a little more hastily put together to me.
