The Longest Evening of the Year
Hitchcoc26 January 2017
Mary is put in charge on election night. The problem is that a major blizzard hits, disabling the phones and the teletype. This forces Ted Baxter to keep going for twelve hours, repeating the same election results. Soon there is a need for everyone to chip in. Rhoda runs the tote board and spends her time making out with one of the directors. Ted has one of the great lines when a priest shows up: "So, tell me, Padre. How long have you been interested in religion? Eventually, everyone in the studio is being interviewed. Mary is beside herself. She has authority issues and the crew doesn't listen to her. This is a really funny episode. Chuckles the clown makes an announcement.

Hilarious

Hilarious episode. Ted gets his best comedy bits so far. At one point he "can't stand it any longer!" as he has to pad out hours of live broadcast with absolutely no new information to impart.

Meanwhile Lou has put Mary in charge and in some well acted scenes she struggles to exert her authority.

Mary's big night at work.
planktonrules1 February 2024
In "The Snow Must Go On", Mary is in for a HUGE night. It's election night and despite her inexperience, Lou has given Mary the responsibility for their special where they track the voting results. Things seem to be working smoothly...that is, until a major blizzard hits. The phones, teletype and election results are unavailable, so Mary has to scramble. Can she manage to salvage the evening or is her first big night at WJM News going to go bust?

I liked this episode, though it's certainly one that might not appeal to all. Instead of being conventionally funny, this one is cringe-inducing funny, as Ted tries desperately to fill time when the election results aren't coming. It's tough to watch unless, like me, you LIKE seeing characters is very embarrassing situations.
