Winchester and Potter get into full blown competitive mode when Charles insults the Colonel's wife, who has won a bridge tournament. Charles's bragging about his prowess leads to enlisting Margaret and B.J. as partners. The game leads to accusations and belittling and no fun. The childish behavior is the hallmark. Meanwhile, Hawkeye has a 24 hour pass, but as he heads down the road, he is waylaid by a North Korean, who points a gun at him and forces him into the woods. Pierce thinks this is it. It turns out, however, that he needs Hawkeye to help a fallen comrade. Pierce does what he can (though he is terrified) but because there is no hospital available, he can only provide the most basic of treatment. He is convinced that these actions will be his last. This is a very tense and frightening episode.

Warning: Spoilers
This season 9 opener really keeps you on the edge of your seat. Hard to believe this was first broadcast 40 years ago. Here Mako plays North Korean soldier Li Han, who forcibly enlists Hawkeye (who was on a 24 hour pass) to perform emergency surgery on another North Korean soldier by the road. At the end would Hawkeye survive to see another day?
The subplot of a bridge competition was hilarious.
