A soldier keeps going AWOL because people make fun of his big nose. He pleads with the guys to help him out. Why he deserves this I don't know. It's illegal to perform a nose job so they have to do everything on the sly. Hawkeye knows a top plastic surgeon played by Stuart Margolin (the same actor who played a psychiatrist not that long ago). The usual stumbling block to pulling this off are the team of Burns and Houlihan, who are incredibly nosy (sorry!). The boys also promise him they will hook him up with the "Barricuda," a nurse to be named later. Another use of nurses as part of the flesh market they seem in charge of. The concluding scene is really the best part of this episode.

What's in a nose
tac105531 October 2023
I generally enjoy this episode whenever it plays. However, the thing that strikes me as strange is, for an episode centered around a soldier hating his large nose and the efforts the doctors go through to get him an operation for it, the nose, in my opinion, never looks that large to me. I agree with the other reviewer who mentioned that the makeup department did a poor job with the prosthetic nose as far as matching the actor's skin tone, but, except for a bump on the top of the nose (where I assume the fake nose is attached to the actor) the nose basically looks normal. In one scene, Hawkeye's nose looks as big, if not even a bit longer. It's also strange that no mention or observation of Klinger is in this episode, considering it's about a large nose. He could've been in at least one scene maybe praising having a large nose. Again, I enjoy the episode, but they could've done a better job on the nose.
Todd Susman guest stars as Private Danny Baker

Warning: Spoilers
Todd Susman guest stars as Private Danny Baker in Operation Noselift, and Todd is also famous for being one of the unseen P. A. system announcers. Anyway, I'm enjoying reflecting on the early seasons of M*A*S*H, which I must admit I didn't enjoy as much as the later, more serious seasons, that is season four onwards. Anyway, here Private Baker wants cosmetic surgery on his nose, and the 4077th goes to great lengths to support his dream so he can supposedly live a more fulfilling life and all. Anyway, if you like M*A*S*H, do yourself a favor and listen to the M*A*S*H Matters podcast co-hosted by Jeff Maxwell, who commenced playing Igor in season two. The podcast is also hosted by superfan Ryan Patrick.
