The first appearance of KARR
coltras3520 September 2021
K. I. T. T.'s prototype, K. A. R. R. (Knight Automated Roving Robot) is reactivated with the accidental help of some crooks, who use the self-serving evil twin of KITT for their own gain - looting. Of course, Michael and Kitt are out to stop KARR, and what you get is wired-up plot, some killer chase scenes and fun-packed 48 mins. KARR will return, though, in KITT VS KARR.

FUN FACTS
awbusa1 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The TRIVIA section is wrong - KITT wasn't MICHAEL LONG'S trans am and DEVON MILES even tells him in KNIGHT OF THE PHOENIX that the similarities are PURELY SUPERFICIAL meaning basically that the 2 TRANS AMs lookalike but aren't the same car - KARR had the potential to be a great addition to the series but it was too expensive to have both KITT & KARR

Optimus?
Calicodreamin5 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The fact that KITTs evil twin was voiced by the same guy who does Optimus prime is just awesome. A storyline fit for the best of soap operas and just as well acted.

Trust Doesn't Rust

It seems to come as a surprise to Michael Knight that Knight Industries created a prototype of KITT. I mean an advanced indestructible car cannot be created on your first attempt.

The prototype K.A.R.R. (Knight Automated Roving Robot) becomes active when two small time hoods break into a disused Knight laboratory and gain access to KARR. The problem with the prototype was that it was not designed to serve its designated driver like KITT was. In fact it was programmed for its own self preservation.

As the evil car with its new hoodlum passengers go on a stealing spree, Michael Knight and KITT have to stop it with just one vulnerability, a laser that has to be fired at a sweet spot on the front grille of KARR.

Character actor William Sanderson (Blade Runner) lends dignity to this silly episode. I mean I am sure it would had been easy to just re-programme the prototype. The episode also sees Michael communication to others through his digital watch. If only Glen Larson trademarked the early version of the Iwatch!

Some Good, Some Bad

The series regulars are just fine in this episode. But the two actors who played the crooks were horrible. They were fresh out of acting school - a bad acting school. They spent all their time bug-eyed and yelling and screeching. Ugh. If it was supposed to be funny it didn't work, at least not for me. I'm sure some people would disagree with that.

This could have been a super cool episode, but they blew it. That happens to every show I guess, a few episodes along the way that fall short during of years of production.

I did like the dramatic ending and the closing tag scene that followed it. I thought those were very good.

By the way, I'm new to Knight Rider. I didn't watch it back in the 80's, but I bought the DVD's and will be going through them. My impression so far is that it's a fun show. There's a lot to like in this story of a man and his car.
