Trading up
bkoganbing30 September 2020
William Shockley is driving through Sparta and hits a young boy riding on his bicycle. Truth be told the kid did come out of nowhere and Shockley might have stayed around but for the fact that Alan Autry happened to witness the crime and the Sparta police are called.

Our perpetrator took off and made it hit and run. And with Shockley carrying a lot of cocaine and Bubba witnessing the crime when he's caught it's a slam dunk conviction.

But Shockley has something he wants to trade up for. A major New Orleans drug cartel player. Carroll O'Connor however wants him to answer for crimes committed in Sparta.

Shockley is one of the most hateful bad guys ever depicted In The Heat Of The Night. A truly soulless monster. Even the Feds who want to make a deal recognize that.

A truly outstanding episode.

An episode that made me really and truly angry and still does

Warning: Spoilers
''And Justice For Some'Was a great episode about a drug dealer who hits a young boy on a bicycle and its seen by Deputy Bubba Skinner (Alan Autry)who gives chase and captures the smug and uncaring and coldblooded driver Troy Caldwell who shows no feelings about his victim .And is arrested and charged with the crime ,But theirs a problem hes a federal witness in a crime involving a major drug dealer and an agent Richard Donnelly tells them that they need Caldwell and will grant him immunity in the local hit and run case because they need him as a witness in the case .And I admit the first time I saw this episode I was totally angry and mad about this ''injustice''and was fuming through the whole episode and I admit I wanted to punch the actor (William Shockley)who did such a great job and that the ending was unexpected but considering what had happened was fitting justice for that character and that's my review .

A Red Light

Warning: Spoilers
AS tragic as this accident might have been the boy did survive and was well enough to look forward to a position on next year's team. The parents should have been more concerned that they had not taught their son to stop at red lights than feeling that they should have driven him to school. Turning back many years, I was in a similar accident but no traffic light was involved. At 10 years old I was not a carefull bike rider and was struck by a car from behind as I wandered into the middle of the lane. Both I and the car drivers were at fault. Onlookers (including my schoolteacher who lived across the street) ran to my aid and saw that I was not injured at all. The car occupants also stopped and saw that I was OK and the onlookers were satisfied and let the driver go after getting his license and other data. I learned a great lesson and never had another bike accident. In "And justice for Some" everyone was much more rattled and the results were much more terrifying. Wonder what happened to Dad after he took the law in his own hands - with a rifle!!

Everybody loses

As sad as a kid possibly being crippled is his daddy making the boy get through his difficulties without his income and help is even sadder.

Not sure how much a kid would value knowing his being ran over had put a major dope trafficker in prison but it's better than knowing nothing was gained by his pain and suffering.

One serious flaw was the idiot in the van was way over the top and nobody with a brain would trust him with 12 million worth of drugs. Maybe an ounce or two at best.
