A tale of two widows
hudecha25 August 2018
One is genuine, the other an impostor - which one, the blonde or the brunette? Hard to decide, as they are equally charming, and appear equally possessed of the required posh English upbringing to be the widow of the far away deceased son of a wealthy patrician. However we get some clues and Paladin as well, though he intentionally overplays his suspicions as a cautious detective. His way to get to the truth might not be of Sherlockian brilliance, but the final twist is skillfully brought and the whole episode well filmed and very enjoyable - though in essence more Victorian than bearing relations with Paladin's usual gunslinging stories. The only Western connection, the cavalry element in the first part, being something of a charade as it has little bearing on what is to follow.

Have Mystery, Will Solve
zsenorsock1 May 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Paladin is hired by a wealthy widower named Martin Westrope (Carl Berton Reid) to find the widow of his late son, a cavalry officer on a remote post. When he returns with the girl, he discovers another woman has already arrived, claiming to be the dead man's widow. It's up to Paladin to play Hec Ramsey for a bit and solve the mystery! Pretty enjoyable episode made more so by the performances of Charles Aideman as the unscrupulous nephew, and with Soap Opera regular Betsy Von Furstenberg and Fintan Meyler as the two women claiming to be Mrs. Westrope.

I guess Meyler liked doing this show because she did three more, then retired for 11 years before doing one last performance on "Emergency".
