The opening episode of the second series has an intriguing story and some melodrama. However it does not fit in with an action-adventure series that Hanny was meant to be.
There is more action in the opening titles with a matchbox floating down a stream.
Hanny is fencing with a friend, Sir Marcus Leonard who gives him some fencing tips.
Hannay is smittened by a beautiful widow, Sybil Verney. Marcus knows her and tells Hanny to be wary of her.
Sybil tells Hannay that Marcus is blackmailing her father. He has letters in his safe that she wants in her possession.
Hannay learns to how to break into a safe. However he later finds out from Marcus that Sybil is not someone who she claims to be.
I have a feeling this could all end in a sword fight. I did have an issue with a music hall brawl, surely someone as clever as Hannay could smuggle some letters out somehow.
