Good job, George
IngridNO-6799710 May 2020
This was actually going to be the season finale for season 1. It's a good episode, but perhaps a little too dull to be a great season finale. It seemed more like a normal episode like any other, except maybe for the cliffhanger with Derek at the end. Is he going to show?

I thought it was great that George got to thrive this episode, he deserves that. His character should be more than just clumsy and awkward.

The One With The Elevator Surgery...
taylorkingston26 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoy this episode. It's good and I really like that George finally gets to shine and get away from his 007 stereotype.

In this episode, a storm roles through Seattle, causing massive power outages throughout the city, including Seattle Grace Hospital. While transporting a patient, George, Alex and the patient get trapped in an elevator, and George must perform surgery, as the patient won't last waiting for the power to come back. Meanwhile, Meredith and Derek arrange a religious ritual for a patient.

Overall, I give this episode a 7 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Great.

Warning: Spoilers
15 years ago when this episode first aired the pick me, love me part was so incredibly romantic but now after seeing all the episodes multiple times it tragic. The years of hurt Meredith is put through loving a man she is kept at a distance from because Derek's cheating ex wife that didn't want him until she found out about Meredith was able to keep Derek hanging on to hope of the past. Meredith's trust issues get worse before they get better. Shonda Rhimes Is brilliant.

Might just be one of the most iconic episodes of grey's ever!!
rodrigues-3918914 December 2020
This episode delivers the turning point for dereks and Merediths relationship with mer giving the "pick me, choose me" speech, showing her true emotions and how she really feels to Derek. Ellis also delivers her iconic "the carousel never stops turning" line to Meredith when she shows a glimpse of her former self. The Iconic elevator surgery also proves that George is a force to be reckoned with and one of the best characters in the show. This was true grey's anatomy at its purest and comes before one of the most heartbreaking grey's episodes of all time

Cultural violation
xiongw-163698 November 2023
I'm a bit disappointed in this episode when the Asian women said she is Hmong and something about because she is Hmong and her dad said no to the procedure she has to listen. This is total bogus, outright violation to me. Do your research, make it right or don't whisper the culture.

Who am I? I'm a 36 years old, 100% Hmong woman who have been raise in the Christian world up the the age of x and was married and raised in the traditional world for 11 years and I find what they writers mentioned about Hmong, medicine, and culture in general is insulting. What they wrote is off from the truth and reality of what Hmong is. The writers should research more about our culture before evening airing it.
