Funny and scathingly in equal measure.

The Girls are set to attend a fabulous banquet, the social event of The Year, but flu strikes, leaving the three friends at one another.

Classic episode, definitely one of the best episodes from series one, the scenario is great, allowing for some hilarious one liners, and some terrific banter between them all. Next time I'm full of man flu, I'll be re-watching this in bed.

I can't pick out a single favourite moment, it's genuinely just funny from start to finish, although the first outburst is a joyous moment, Sophia comes close to upstaging everyone even she turns up with her handsome date.

This first series is definitely the gift that keeps on giving. It's perhaps the first time we've seen thr girls all at one another's throats. This is very, very funny, but also has one or two really sweet moments.

Classic episode, 9/10.

Flu Attack (#1.21)

Warning: Spoilers
The girls are getting ready for a banquet where they are nominated for an award. They have issues finding dates. And then Rose, Dorothy and Blanche also get the flu and are sick not knowing if they can attend. In the episode they argue about who gets the award, try to get healthy and get a good date to impress others.

A pretty funny episode thanks to all the fighting. It is great to see them so competitive and I was glad to see Sophie win. In a way I was a bit worried they will make them all winners. The dates were great as well, I especially liked Sophie's date. The young guy who could only say "It's a pleasure to be here".

Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil, miss the banquet.

Warning: Spoilers
It's obvious that the cold that Rose gets will make the other girls (with the exception of Sophia) sick with the flu, preparing to attend a banquet for the "Friends of the friends in need", a service organization that each of the girls believes that they think they have a chance in winning. They fight over every ounce of attempts at curing themselves, even if they will watch the continuing story of "Another World", an irony considering that Rue McLanahan once appeared on that soap opera, and former guest-star Brent Collins was then appearing on. Dorothy maliciously drinks the last of the orange juice just so Rose can't get it, and other flu remedies are used up or thrown out just to irritate each other. They manage to make it to the banquet and continue to argue, ruin their date's salad by their sneezing, and ultimately must face the fact that who they never thought would get the award ends up going home with it.

The highlights of the episode are Sharon Spelman's appearance as the woman doctor who makes a house call (commenting on the lack of women doctors as well as dropping a little joke which questions her real identity) and Marc Tubert as the very happy but basically dim non-English speaking date of Sophia's. The fact that envious Blanche ends up with the worst date of all is perhaps the greatest pay-off thanks to her non-stop ego. It's a simple plot that works because everybody can identify with being in a horrible mood and irritable when under the weather. The three women also act like they are really sick, especially Bea Arthur, whose voice is lower than normal.

When you feel bad, but look good

One of the funnier episodes, the laughs just keep rolling in as the girls get down right nasty after catching the flu. Great comedic timing and a heartwarming ending.

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of my favorite episodes of the series. I love when they get at each others throats because when the girls insult each other, the things they say is always hysterical.

Of course they all make up in the end and realize how much their friendship means to each other thanks to wise words from Sophia during her acceptance speech for the Best Friend of the Year award.

It's also interesting to see that doctors still made house calls in the mid 80's.
