The Smiling Killer
zsenorsock15 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
In a pretty funny script by former Abbott and Costello writer Martin Ragaway, Max and 99 are trying to find out what KAOS is doing using parrots. They recover a parrot from a KAOS courier and question it, with Max playing both good cop/bad cop to the bird. In a scene that seems really topical for today, a lawyer for the bird (played by Dick Wilson, Charmin's Mr. Whipple)appears and demands the bird's rights. The bird was held without writ, questioned without an attorney present and not allowed a phone call. He insists the bird be freed. Max and 99 then follow the bird to a pet shop which is really a front for Melnick (David Murphy) KAO's "smiling killer". The show ends with Max and Kosovich (Johnny Seven) being both tranquilized which makes them fight in slow motion. Lot of funny lines and bits of business in this one. It is also the last or next to last appearance for Fang, agent K-9. Apparently the problem with Fang is he really couldn't obey commands or do any tricks and just ate up production time. If you watch Fang in action in this episode, you'll see what they mean. However Max and 99 are in fine form as is the rest of the cast. Larabee makes a early appearance in which he is even entrusted to take away the bad guys (his character as a dim bulb had not been clearly established at this point).
