"How can there be a DUI if there is no 'D'!"

Warning: Spoilers
This is another one of my favorite episodes from "Everybody Loves Raymond". This episode is from Season 7 and originally aired in April 2003. It is amazing the quality this show is still able to crank out after this many seasons.

This episode involves Debra throwing a wedding shower for Amy at Amy's apartment. Debra has done all the planning, food preparations and shower games. But Marie is not content to just sit back and watch. So she shows up with her own food and starts pushing it off on Debra's guests. Debra tries to take it all in stride. Then Marie starts criticizing the flow of the shower and says there is a lull. Debra finally has enough and snaps at Marie. Marie acts offended and very loudly says goodbye to all the guests, and leaves in a huff. Debra, who just picked up 2 drinks for her and Amy, quickly downs both drinks.

Next, we see Debra sitting in her car. She calls Ray on her cell phone and tells the answering machine she has had too much to drink and to come pick her up as soon as he gets the message. Next we see a sleeping Debra being woken up by a police officer tapping on her car window. Then, Ray gets a phone call while he is sleeping at home and its Debra... calling from JAIL. He rolls over to look at Debra's empty spot, not even realizing she wasn't home yet.

The next scene from the jail house with Debra is TOO funny. She tries to act like its no big deal, but her voice keeps quivering. She keeps telling them they have made a mistake, that she never drove - "How can there be a DUI if there is no 'D'!". I think the funniest line is when she says "Well, see if I care. I have 3 kids at home so I'm just glad to be out of the house". As I mom, boy can I understand THAT line! This is a must see episode for Debra's acting at the jail. Also, the later scene at the hearing is quite funny when the whole family shows up, including Ray, Marie, Frank and Robert. The court representative had his hands full. Debra explains why she drank too much - because of Marie!

Great episode, lots of laughs.. Great one liners. I like this episode as its a totally different setting than the normal. Involving Marie being her usual self and deb getting arrested

Only Respond to What You've Been Asked

Too drunk to drive, Debra falls asleep in her car waiting for husband Raymond to give her a ride home. A police officer knocks on her window, and asks if she's "alright." Debra blurts out that she "may have had too much to drink." The officer is left to wonder why a drowsy person who admits to have been drinking is seated in the driver's seat of a car with the key in the ignition.

Debra is taken into custody.

By volunteering at the outset that she was probably drunk, Debra freed the officer from having to probe deeper into the situation, and subsequently removed any outs Debra might have used later. Either out of fear or stupidity--or, maybe, a little of both--her presence of mind went AWOL.

When someone asks us if we know what time it is, the only response should be "Yes, I do," not "It's 4:15."
