Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024)
Generic
What a snore fest this was! The visuals are fantastic but that's the standard of today's cinema, the plot is boring, the characters weren't interesting, Feels like a spinoff!
The franchise made a mistake when they killed off Ceaser, this movie should have been the last one with it coming full circle to what the original was but instead I'm sure hollyweird will squeeze another 10 more out of this before rebooting it again.
There doesn't seem to be any consistency or continuity with each movie, they've jumped so far ahead now and it just feels like they've done it so they can get away from the the original material. You just know the next will be "empire of apes" anyway I'm rambling because I found this one frustrating, it felt lazy and unloved, it had no soul like the previous movies. Very generic.
Superintelligence (2020)
Had potential
James corden can litterly ruin a movie just by being in it.. the man is just the definition of cringe so knowing he was in this instantly told me it's not going to be one of Melissa's best.. it is enjoyable, plot is fun and the cast is good (minus corden) if they'd have gotten someone like Gervais or litterly anyone else to play the intelligence this movie might have been memorable but thanks to cordens lack of chemistry or any distinctive traits or even stand out voice, almost all the jokes are forgotten by the next scene. Hollywood needs to stop giving this guy roles, Kevin hart said it best when he said "you know what rhymes with James corden? Late night bordem, he's not important" (during a rap battle) anyway this isn't just me bashing corden, I guess it's just frustrating that a movie that could have been good fun is anchored down by a z listers forgettable performance as the one of the main cast! That aside it's fun, I enjoy Melissa's work as she is fun to watch and has a good on screen presence and overall fun to watch.. had they picked someone funny and memorable for the role of intelligence, this could have been a memorable and rewarchable movie.
Fear the Walking Dead (2015)
7th season sucks!
Love the show, the cast is brilliant especially since adding Morgan, I've enjoyed the progressive plots and up till season 7 it's been leading up to great things but s7 has sucked! Lazy writing again, the cast are so good they do well to carry it but the writers just keep repeating the same crap over and over, cast being sent on silly quests that make no sense, playing pass the parcel with MoMo, Morgan is being written as a reckless father given he seems to lose the child whenever the plot needs some edge, I loved the show when the group is together and working towards something, the tower falls in a ridiculous fight scene, the sub is abandoned off screen, maddy is back but she's a baby snatcher. It's the same kinda lazy crap that ruined the walking dead, maybe in the new season they should try ground the show around the group surviving together and building something to protect rather than silly side quests and pointless subplots..
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Visuals are amazing but...
Hard to belive that we bad to wait so long and in all that time the writers couldn't make a new story or at least an exciting one. How many times are we going to see this plot! Sure there are some differences but stripped down its a new version of the first movie.. Humans come, natives run, natives fight and we get many stunning CGI effects to pad the time and natives finally make up to begin fighting back.. I'm sure it'll make enough to launch a 3rd film but I hold no hope that the writers will do a good job, maybe its just that we've seen everything in Hollywood now or maybe it's just a case if them playing it safe but if the effects weren't so amazing this would be an average plot.. one you've seen many times before and no doubt will see again.. at some point Hollywood had to start catching up to its audience, I'll guess there's a million fans who could have created an original idea to make a perfect sequel but why bother when the CGI is good enough to stop people questioning an average plot..
Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (2011)
Forest Whitaker carried it
Criminal minds BAU was amazing up till Hotch and Morgan left, after that the show became disposable, I looked at this show to see if maybe it could capture what was lost in BAU but unfortunately its a throwaway show.. Whitaker is an incredible actor and I feel if he wasn't in this, it wouldn't have lasted 13episodes, the shows creators should have saw the potential with Whitaker and given him the job with being section chief at the BAU replacing strouse when she left.. but instead they created this mess and todo it they even sacrificed cast from the BAU show to fund it.. a foolish thing todo. CM BAU with Whitaker as chief and Morgan and hotch back would be incredible but the shows creators have just kept meddling with it and killed it off and as a result we end up with unimaginative spin offs like this. 10/10 for whitaker but everything else about it was just a knock off show.
Criminal Minds: The Road Home (2014)
Memorable episode
Despite some errors listed in the "Goof" section and some other goofs like when garcia is looking at Howard Clark records it says he's bday is 1995 and says he was arrested and jailed at the age of 9 for homicide, attempted rape, burglary, Robbery, breaking and entering, possession of drugs, drunk and disorderly, vagrancym. That's a lot of crime for a 9 year old boy to commit... (23mins into the episode when garcia has his record on screen)
Anyway all that aside I loved the episodes with Meshach Taylor in them, his character Harrison Scott was a great addition and I wish we'd seen more of him may he rest in peace, the unsub is another likeable enemy, a killer you can rout for as he takes his vengeance on the world. Very well cast, well paced and the cast did a brill job. This is in my top10 episodes.
Criminal Minds: Blood Relations (2014)
Great story but failed on the ending
Big fan of the show up until Hotch and Morgan left, not watched any since then, loved this episode until the ending, there's been a couple episodes that let the unsub get away without a follow up and it just doesn't fit the show, no body means the case wouldn't be closed and the BAU would be stuck there or have to step down, another episode saw a pedophile get away at the end without a follow up and no revisit. My guess is they won't revisit these episodes given Hotch and Morgan aren't in the show anymore. The people I know who still watch the later episodes say it isn't the same anymore and maybe the creators should bring back it's best characters and get back to what made the show so good, should also revisit these episodes that end with the unsub getting away.
Criminal Minds: Penelope (2007)
Solid episode but..
The plot and acting is great, the episode is a memorable one but what I don't like is how they run morgan down because they can't call him, "where the hell is he" prentice shouts as if Morgan should have known Garcia was shot and ignoring them.. when he gets to the hospital they stop slating him and say "there's nothing you could have been doing here" then there's Garcia, getting away with murder again! She breaks the law and hides what she's up to from the team, she goes on a date because she was mad at Morgan for his comment about something being off with the guy she's seeing, then a cop gets killed protecting her and not a moment is given to the poor guy, after everything they even joke that her job is safe because the guy is dead and the investigating officers are now too shaken to look into her suspension.
Criminal Minds: The Fox (2005)
Brilliant, a top 5 episode
Todd, Neil and Abraham are incredible actors, a shame they didn't get more screen time, the story is dark but 100% a stand out episode. The unsub is brutal and he is one of those ones who should have had more screen time or could have been a 2 part story, Todd and Abraham are so underused, Todd being a very intimidating figure who should have had a revenge moment, Abraham played his role so well and again just not enough screen time, the team all played their role well, Gideon was a real loss to the show, he is intense and charismatic, Gideon and Spencer had great chemistry and I wish they could have kept him, i haven't watched criminal minds since Hotch left.
Criminal Minds: Normal (2008)
Epic, almost to real!
There is alot of stand out episodes, from Coda to big wheel, stand out killers like reaper but Norman is in my opinion, one of the best, he is scary relatable to so many in that he is an everyman, a family man who suffered a mental break and this led to insanity! The actor did an incredible job! This had a "Falling Down" vibe to it, a working man broken by a major event and becomes something unthinkable. You will love this episode and my only wish it that it was longer and Normal had been given more time on screen! Its Dark and touching, it's another episode where you sympathise with the killer. Well done everyone but especially the writers and especially Norman.
Car S.O.S.: Campervan Challenge (2014)
High marks for the finished product!
I love the show, love the stories and seeing old cars restored and saved. The work is detailed and you can see the cars they do were once focal points for the owners but once that car gets parked up and becomes a project, all to many are forgotten, the frustrating thing about this episode is the owner has several classics just rotting away on his garden, seems strange that a car enthusiast can watch such beautiful cars rott! As late as 2022 the old cars are still on the garden unloved and untouched and that is criminal to see from a car lover like myself. I hope he sells them to someone who can save them before they end up scrapped. The camper becomes beautiful and I hope the family are still using and loving it, anyone reading this know them personally, advise them to let those old cars go to someone who can save them.
Car S.O.S. (2013)
As good as it gets
With so many car shows it's hard to find the stand out shows and this is one of the few that stand out. No cheesy over the top gimmicks or forced chemistry, it's a humble show that sticks to the root of car restoration! You'll enjoy the mechanical side because its informative and done right, you'll enjoy Tim's antics too as you can see he is a car person at heart, they speak to all ages because they aren't always purists and will sometimes modernise where needed and it's that mix that most of us can relate to because when dealing with classics, sometimes an upgrade here and there can help, especially for those who need adaptions. Anyway the show is educational and entertaining. Reminds me of wheeler dealer in the early days before Mike sold out to the US audience. They help car enthusiasts who's projects have stopped so it's a Nobel cause too. Well done to all involved.
Criminal Minds: The Black Queen (2014)
Too goofy
Garcia is one of my fav characters but the whole black queen act was just silly. Paulo Costanzo played his role well, such an under used actor, he'd have been a good recurring character. Garcia and Morgan were always great characters but it was already shown that Morgan first met garcia and called her "Gomez" not knowing who she was but they rewrote it just to make this black queen badass.. pretty weak episode but not the worst, it is only memorable because of Paulo Costanzo and because of the sexual harassment parts of the episode. I liked the small moments of humour and relationships and it's a shame the show didn't have more of this.
The Great Wall (2016)
Epic fantasy movie
I'm glad so many reviews on here are positive, it's visually stunning, acting is solid, casting is great and the story is exciting! I wish there had been more back story on the monsters. A shame we live in a time where people don't seem to appreciate the effort as you can clearly see this is a big blockbuster movie and it's complaints seem to he about white actors or about its budget.. its also a shame that Matt disregards the movie too, a sequel with more back story about the monsters or even the wall falling and the monsters going global would be amazing but the critics seem to have killed the title. Overall its a good solid movie, fast paced, action packed and visually stunning. Watch it with an open mind.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
Pretty soulless
Not a bad film but you can tell this has become a money motivated movie, pretty small budget, big profit.. its predictable and not at all scary, everything in this one has been done before from the jump scare to the plot, maybe if there had been some gore it could have been saved but there isn't any, just jump scares and lots of talking. Potentially a great movie but its just another rinse and repeat.
Without Remorse (2021)
Solid action movie
Very enjoyable, well paced and solid action. Jordan is an all star and gives 100% he is a natural and raw talent. Really hope there is a sequel and that he's in it. This can be a great franchise if they keep Jordan as the star.
Dead Man Running (2009)
Solid movie
Surprisingly good, well casted, good plot and fast paced. Well worth the watch, makes you wonder why Danny walked away from movies for soppy soaps! 50cent, plays the role well. The movie isn't a Blockbuster but it's a good watch and one you'll probably watch again.
Annihilation (2018)
Frustrating
This could have been a Blockbuster movie with stunning CGI, awesome creature design and solid acting BUT thr plot is a mess.. starting off knowing who survived takes the suspense from her character, you know she lives because she's talking at the start.. the mind numbing and pointless affair and sex scenes that really have no place but to make us dislike the main character, I feel if this was a male cast film it would have been faster paced with more action and more indepth look at the beautiful things being created but instead we have the pace slowed down for flashbacks of sex and conversations that don't add anything to the story.. a shame because this could have been a solid franchise but it was poorly executed.
The Darkest Hour (2011)
Solid effort
I enjoyed the film, set in Russia, acting is solid, the aliens are some what different. The action and suspense is great, a shame no sequel has come forward.
Battleship (2012)
Needs a sequel
I know the film is hated but I fail to see why, the special effects are great for the time, the movie using real vets is awesome, if this wasn't based on the game it would be a solid movie, there's several plot holes and alot of silliness but for the action and design it's a good movie. A shame they havnt made a follow up because the aliens are awesome and I like the fact they used vets, involving more countries would have also been better but its definitely a worthwhile film.
Zombieland: Double Tap (2019)
Good fun but...
The comedy is real good fun like the first movie but the additional cast are what kinda kills the fun. Just modern stereotypes with predictable jokes.. other than that woody is solid again, as is our lovable nerd but almost every added member offers little.
Friends: The One Where Ross Moves In (1998)
Pointless
After successfully running ross's wedding and marriage, Rachel moves on to her next conquest, a pointless and boring chap called Danny who she's now attracted too and acting like a silly teenager now that he's shaved his beard and looks good. Joey and chandler save this episode somewhat but at this stage of the show you can tell the writers were running low..
Meet Dave (2008)
Good family fun
This isn't your typical Eddie movie, but it is alot of fun, thr plot is fun, the cast is brilliant, it maybe could have been better if they'd introduced a rival alien to try stop them rather than the internal mutiny but that's just an opinion. Overall this is a good fun movie.
Friends: The One with Chandler in a Box (1997)
Funny BUT
This could have been a classic episode, Chandler steals the show again with his comedy, but the absolutely pointless part where Monica dates Richards son really sucks the potential out of it.. what a pointless thing for the writers todo. Just like when Rachel got with Tag it makes you want to skip them episodes/parts to get back to the comedy.
Bird Box (2018)
Needs a sequel
2 things I didn't like, 1)having a scene from later on in the movie right at the start.. it robs any intensity of the film up till that scene because we know she survives every attack till that point.. Also having an idiot like MGK in the movie made no sense, the character was pointless and I feel he was only picked because he was trending at the time.. overall the movie is great, tho because it lacks a conclusion, we have to wait till 2 comes out to judge the franchise, Sandra does a great job and she needs to be in the 2nd movie, with more focus on the monsters and how we fight them.
