Debra is hilarious in the throws of PMS!
PudgyPandaMan12 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Ray thinks that Debra irritability can be traced to her monthly cycle. So he goes and buys her PMS pills that he thinks will solve her problems. He calls them her "ladies days" and that she loves to use them as her excuse when ever she is grouchy. But this only makes her more angry that he thinks he can throw pills at her and solve all her problems.

So she storms out to go shopping with Amy and leaves Ray with the kids.

Ray doesn't seem to realize that it is his being unthoughtful and unwilling to help around the house that is the real problem. What she really needs is for him to be more understanding. Instead, he decides to tape record her during one of her rants, which he plays back for her later. This of course makes her even angrier.

This is one of Debra's best episodes as she exhibits some of her best aggressive, maniacal acting. She is hilarious as her mood swings high, then low. Poor Ray doesn't stand a chance!

The ending is funny as well - Frank decides to use the recorder to tape Marie ranting at him. Instead, he only keeps playing back segments of his own rants at Marie!

Sooooo funny!

This episode really displays the superb acting abilities of Patricia Heaton. She was great in this one. To be able to swing back and forth between a gentle, loving wife and a moody, cranky witch the way she does just amazes me everytime I see this episode.

Its kind of a nice change from her usual wisecracking demeaner, but Its more fun to see her as her normal self. Shes usually so smart and witty. I really like how they all get along by joking around with each other. It reminds me of my family, and we get along great and always have the best times whenever we're together.

My favorite episode

This episode is too funny. Debra has a right to snap once in a while with all she puts up with. She didnt "beat him up" jeez. To the other 2 morons complaining about Debras behavior, people like you are exactly why we now live in a United States filled with sissies and no one is allowed to make a comment or behave this way or that way because it may offend some other thin skinned wuss. Its a sitcom. As in its just acting meant to make you laugh and not take seriously. You must be super fun at parties.

Classic PMS Episode

There are so many funny moments in this episode about Ray trying to be a resourceful and understanding husband during Debra's "ladies day". For me, Frank's advice to son Ray about the future PMS eventualities never fails to amaze me with Peter Boyle's comic delivery. Ray's line about "monkey on a cupcake" in desperation also gets me rolling. There's a lot more. Just have to watch it:)

THe worst episode in the series
nancylmarine23 October 2021
Debra's usual abusive behavior is level 10 in this episode and I can't even watch it any longer.

Though Debra's always verbally and emotionally abusive in every episode, this one involves physical abuse and everyone laughs about it.

If the roles were reversed, and Raymond were doing to Debra what she does to him, the entire world would be up in arms and call for the show to be cancelled.

But.. Let the little woman physically abuse her husband and the world laughs.

Whomever wrote this episode, or even thought it was a good idea, should be completely removed from the industry for thinking spousal abuse should be used as a form of humor.

Horrible BEAST

Debra is a horrible horrible beast in this episode. Her behavior goes far beyond any of the other hateful things, that can be humorous, this family does. Her violent behavior toward Ray just isn't funny.

I'm in two minds...

This episode hits all the nails so squarely on their respective heads that it should almost be required viewing for any male thinking of marriage (I'm writing as a husband of over 25 years). All the lines are there, on both sides, as far as I can tell. However... as others have pointed out, if the abusive, gaslighting, and coercive behaviours were reversed, this show would have been noisily cancelled. The fact that it isn't is proof enough that society accepts this behaviour from women. Why? Because it's common and normal; guys, man up and get used to it. My advice is to stay calm and steady and keep it all away from the kids. Period!
