In this short-lived great TV series, there were a couple of big-time "hams" every time they were on screen on Car 54, Where Are You. Maybe the biggest (and funniest, at times) was Charlotte Rae who played "Sylvia Schnauser," wife of cop "Leo." As usual, Sylvia was outrageous, especially after actually being given a police assignment: to go undercover and catch fraudulent book companies bilking innocent people with the promise to public their book.
A common feature on Car 54 was having someones intentions erroneously interpreted, which was the case here. The entire 53rd precinct, starting with Leo and escalating from there, thinks Sylvia is writing about former adulteress affairs when really she was only talking about food - her real true love! Great comic lines in here and expressions on people's faces, starting with the Schnauser couple, as usual. Imagine a couple like that in real life!
