Meh

I see that, for the most part, people continually bash Babylon 5's fifth season for multiple reasons, and I agree with them. Although, granted, I am a Babylon 5 fan, and, no matter its multiple issues, I have, thus far, enjoyed the fifth season, but it is indeed a MASSIVE step down from the literal genius that was S3/S4.

First off, I love myself some Psi-Corps/Telepath action, but this... this is just not living up to the awesomeness of the telepaths. In terms of setup for a telepath war, this storyline just doesn't cut it. I don't care how rushed it would have been, but a telepath war would have been nice in this last season. They were certainly building up to it. Bester is awesome, as always, but this is not by any means a good Bester episode compared to the other ones.

Let the snoring begin....

Season five for Babylon 5 was, generally speaking, a disappointment. As the Shadows AND the Earth had been defeated, there were no enemies when the season began and the episodes just seemed to be in limbo--probably because originally there wasn't even supposed to be a fifth season.

Considering that this episode involves Bester, it's amazing that it's as dull as it was. Usually Bester is good for an action-packed episode, but instead it's as if the episode is placed in neutral and nothing really is resolved. Worse, the telepaths on board really are a tad annoying--like having the ship overrun by hippies who break into choruses of songs like "We Are the World" as they sway back and forth. Yuck--I wanted some action, not a live action version of "Wee Pals".

Ugh! Time for a nap...

Even when I saw this 20-plus years ago, it was a snooze-fest. Part of it is the boring loose ends: we don't have any clue who truly is behind the explosion at the beginning of the episode, we don't really get to see Bester and the bloodhounds in action, and the rogue telepaths are BORING. Byron and his telepaths look like refugees from a goth convention after passing through a Renaissance fair. They are trying to avoid the Psi Corps but they all dress in black like their still in the Psi Corps? Their utter lack of facial expression and emotion isn't creepy, it's just boring. Please, Bester, take them away! No, the only even vaguely interesting plot point is the role G'Kar takes on. Really? Forty or so minutes and that's all we get?
