You can hear the director and crew talking
myljemail24 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
There are scenes where you can hear the director-slash-probably-camera-man-too talking. They're talking about the camera shot while shooting a chandelier. They're talking and giving cues while writing letters on a belly. They're telling the talent to "hold it hold it hold it" during a close-up still. They're counting the holds for the satanists, "three four five."

The audio goes out for about 10 minutes but you can still hear the video hiss so you know it's not a technical difficulty, but something in the video.

Scenes cut mid-sentance, it's just wild.

I'm giving it 2 stars for the actress who got nude for this wreck.

There's an "adults over 21 only" warning 3/4 of the way through.

There's a detached kidnapping scene that pops up with little setup.

This is real, real bad

Warning: Spoilers
First off, I don't know why I subjected myself to this.

I found it through someone's myspace page and watched it. It ran only 36min24sec, but it felt much longer. It was a bad VHS rip, converted to digital and it must have originally been shot on video with no external mic, because the sound was terrible--even for a VHS rip.

The story is basically a rip off of the Exorcist (lines were even ripped off from it); it had bad gore, and one of the worst erotic dances ever filmed. At the end we do get to see a naked woman, but even that doesn't add a single point to the overall rating.

There's one scene where the priest tries to help a woman on the street, and offer her a ride. Her answer to all his helpfulness was that he was "trying to recruit nuns." That was amusing at least.

One of the last scenes, which was long and drawn out, involved the appearance of the word ASTAROTH on the little girls belly. That, I'm afraid, is the climax of the movie.

What a waste of time.

No, it isn't The Exorcist
legmeat3 February 2009
The previous reviewer must have a fragmented, bootleg tape, for the movie does not end at "Astaroth" sequence, nor was the scene an exorcism. It was a Luciferian Black Mass enactment. There were prated VHS tapes made after the original company, Vidimax, folded and this viewer probably has the one with the one audio channel muted and scenes missing. No, Child Of The Sabbat was not a Hollywood style epic, nor was it intended to be. Obviously, it was shot on camcorders with non-professional actors. As noir, it is cult/horror, a la Herschel Gordon Lewis of the decade prior and it is in that context it should be viewed. You can't compare apples to oranges.
